I don't post much on here anymore but just wanted to take a moment today to thank Mumsnet @MNHQ and Justine in particular for standing strong over a considerable number of years.

I fully appreciate that not all Mumsnet members or employees held the same beliefs but in the fury of doxing, banning, and insults, MNHQ held the line to enable this space where women were able to have a discussion.

I know the arguments and concerns over the years but the fact is that this was the only public space for a considerable number of years where a conversation was allowed about what came to be known as gender critical concerns.

This was where women came to gather, to discuss, to learn, to be heard, to form new spaces, to support and to stand strong. It wasn't always a pleasant place to be but it was always a place that was allowed to exist. It stood against the pressure groups, the hate, the doxxing, the pressure of advertisers, Stonewall law and it did so by simply being allowed to exist. The women on here and in the wider world did the rest. It's easy to forget just how difficult it was for MNHQ to hold the line especially when being attacked by all sides.

Thank you.

Agree. Thank you MNHQ. This is where I washed up when I wanted to know what the hell was happening with rapists like Isla Bryson and violent sex offender Tiffany Scott being sent to women's prisons. I was shocked that my usual news sites like the Guardian and the BBC hadn't even raised it as an issue. I was so naive.

I remember seeing a T-shirt which said, “Radicalised by Mumsnet” and it made me so happy to be a small part of it. I echo the thanks - Mumsnet and the mods have stood firm in the face of some strong opposition.

Pluvia · 16/04/2025 16:34

Yes, thanks MN. I'm still sore over the number of times I've had posts removed for no apparent reason over the last 12 years, a couple of them comparatively recently. The TRAs watched us closely. Now the Supreme Court has spoken I can say Transwomen Are Men without fear of being modded, I hope.

Perhaps now is the time to reveal that I've been banned twice and found a way back to continue the fight each time.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 16/04/2025 16:35

yes absolutely! Thank you @MNHQ Justine has been under ridículous pressure but she’s held yhr line and allowed women the freedom to discuss this when no one else would

I was thinking the same thing OP. As a freelance worker in a captured industry I am not able to speak out publicly so MN has been my only means of participating in this debate and keeping up with developments. I know lots of us are in the same boat, and I wonder if today's ruling would have happened without MN providing this platform for thousands of women to read and research; to find out about petitions and consultations and issues to lobby their MPs on, and for the word to spread quietly, from one sofa/kitchen table/woman killing time at football practice or school pick up to another.

As a woman-centred discussion forum it's powerful and pretty unique. Today I read a post in which the poster said 'as a man' and I felt a moment of surprise as it's my default assumption that MN users are female. What a luxury that is, in a world where the default male dominates.

Thank you MNHQ.

Well the amazing women who set up For Women Scotland and who have achieved this fantastic result today met on Mumsnet and rallied themselves and others for the fight. Just ordinary women who couldn't believe what the Scottish government were doing. In fighting something that in reality should never have been in question has now meant everyone's rights are equal. Which is a good thing.

My thanks also to Mumsnet x

MrsOvertonsWindow · 16/04/2025 16:38

My thanks too. I'm aware that at times Mumsnet has taken a financial hit from various trans captured organisations pulling advertising and have made a point of using those advertisers that have stayed.
Thank you, thank you. Flowers

RNApolymerase · 16/04/2025 16:39

Thankyou from me too.

Another voice to add to the chorus of appreciation here.

Thank you.

GetDressedYouMerryGentlemen · 16/04/2025 16:58

Another voice to add to the chorus of thanks. It must have been incredibly challenging at times, trying to walk the line but MN has created a space where women could rally and discuss and stand together. Those who dismiss us as Mummies chatting about nappies need to think again. Those who try invade our spaces and take our words need to stop. We are women and we won't back down.

FarriersGirl · 16/04/2025 17:34

Its thank you from me too. I only discovered MN and this board about 9 months ago. Although I have long had GC views I was isolated in them partly as I had a v woke employer. FWR was a revelation in more ways than one!

Wow. I didn’t know that. But of course it makes complete sense. ❤️

nowindofblame · 16/04/2025 17:50

Thank you also from a long time lurker/constant name changer.💐

Also thank you to all the women (and a few men) on here who contribute masses of information and/or support, along with keeping our brains straight when dealing with the twisty "logic" that is continually dumped on us.🍷🌹

RedToothBrush · 16/04/2025 17:53

Thank you MNHQ

But for Forstater and you, women would not have been able to defend their existing legal rights.

We should recognise the importance of free speech (whilst understanding this is not the same as harassment and abuse).

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 16/04/2025 17:54

Hear hear. 👍🏻

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 16/04/2025 17:58

Thanks from me, too.

I wasn't aware of that! How brilliant - hope there is fizz today at MNHQ. Thank you INeedAPensieve

Catiette · 16/04/2025 18:14

Thank you from me, as well. FWR opened my eyes to what was happening - without you, as a committed Guardian reader and full of naive faith in the BBC, I may never otherwise have known the degree to which our rights were under threat - or, indeed, even that they were. How terrifying it is to think that. What a wonderful resource this site has been, and continues to be.

FionaJT · 16/04/2025 18:16

Another big thank you. This is such a unique and valuable online space.

guinnessguzzler · 16/04/2025 18:17

100%. Thank you.

Optimist1 · 16/04/2025 18:21

Add my thanks to those above.

paddingtoncoffee · 16/04/2025 18:55

Absolutely agree - the ability to dissent is absolutely crucial, and thank you for protecting the space to do that

ThatFlyIsMySpiritAnimal · 16/04/2025 18:56

Another huge thank you from me ❤️

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 16/04/2025 19:00

Another thank you for preserving a space for these issues to be debated.
