I don't post much on here anymore but just wanted to take a moment today to thank Mumsnet @MNHQ and Justine in particular for standing strong over a considerable number of years.

I fully appreciate that not all Mumsnet members or employees held the same beliefs but in the fury of doxing, banning, and insults, MNHQ held the line to enable this space where women were able to have a discussion.

I know the arguments and concerns over the years but the fact is that this was the only public space for a considerable number of years where a conversation was allowed about what came to be known as gender critical concerns.

This was where women came to gather, to discuss, to learn, to be heard, to form new spaces, to support and to stand strong. It wasn't always a pleasant place to be but it was always a place that was allowed to exist. It stood against the pressure groups, the hate, the doxxing, the pressure of advertisers, Stonewall law and it did so by simply being allowed to exist. The women on here and in the wider world did the rest. It's easy to forget just how difficult it was for MNHQ to hold the line especially when being attacked by all sides.

Thank you.

Thank you Justine and all at MNHQ for bravely holding the line despite everything.

A massive thank you from another lurker.

I’ve learnt so much and followed the tribunals and waited with apprehension for the SC judgement. I’ve written to my MP, to organisations, and planted veggies here and there. I was peaked when it all kicked off with JK Rowling on Twitter in lockdown. I read her essay and was so confused by the hysteria and crazy reaction. shortly after I was banned from a small geeky specialist group on Facebook for simply saying that discussion was needed to make sure everyone is protected. A TRA got a whole heap of people banned, mostly autistic older males who were clueless that you couldn’t say sex is binary.

A million times thank you for standing strong!

Was the geeky group one with a Disney adjacent name? If so, I left because I couldn't take the fawning over a TIM who liked to dress in practically indecent cos play. And I liked that group.

AzurePanda · 18/04/2025 19:34

Thank you @JustineMumsnet. I’ve been here since the start and have never been more grateful for Mumsnet than this week.

What absolute fucking bullshit.
Bye bye Ocado you utter snivelling bastards.
Once maybe. Twice - fuck off forever

KnottyAuty · 18/04/2025 20:05

Thank you @JustineMumsnet and @SusanSmithFWS for everything and all the hardships you’ve endured for us. Thank you thank you thank you. 😘🙏🏻

edited to add - in my business I charge “toxic people” at 200% the going rate. Might be worth considering similar if Ocado and the like want you back. There should be a penalty for being so duplicitous

so pleased to see @mnhqgetting the appreciation they deserve. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart

Thank you @JustineMumsnet for staying strong and giving us the online space to be heard.

I can't convey how important the FWR forum has been for me in recent years, without the wisdom and support there, I would have lost my sanity. Thank you to the lovely FWR vipers too.

YoniHuman · 18/04/2025 22:30

Another one here adding to the thanks. I joined up when first pregnant 18 years ago and stayed around due to the funny, helpful & knowledgeable posters. MN has provided me with plenty of entertainment over the years but also provided invaluable support through the birth of my children and the loss of my own parent.
I always came away from the Feminist boards having learnt something and was amazed that more people around me didn’t realise or didn't seem to care what was going on as women's rights were being eroded. MN gave me the courage to contact and meet my local WRN group a couple of years ago and what a fabulous bunch of women they are.

No - think more something like model railway enthusiasts - it was really sad seeing people banned for hate from a very specialist hobby group they had a lot of knowledge in and were passionate about.

The group had a ‘no political posts’ rule and someone posted say a railway track with all the different gender flags all over it in pride month. Someone else reported it as a political post and then a discussion broke out about why the gender identity bit can be considered political and a few blokes were quite confused as they hadn’t come across the idea of gender identity and said they thought sex was binary and it was all a load of nonsense so they were banned as transphobic and hateful. Then the person who put up the original post made sure a trans activist was made an admin to advise the original admins on what was hateful and what wasn’t with a totalitarian zeal. It was quite scary to witness and peaked me massively.

Feminism and Women's Rights

It’s what the board used to be called. If you share a link to a thread on this topic you’ll see it’s still womens_rights under the hood. Because that’s what it’s always been about.
It’d be nice if it could return to that name sometime, wouldn’t it?

I wait with bated breath to see if the temporary contractor is elevated to a SM advisor who no longer works for us.

Edited for a rogue i.

Ah I think I can have a solid guess about the hobby! Something like Ham Warmer 30J ... I was dimly aware of some rainbow related controversy in the last years in at least one group I'm a member of

HarmonicAnalysis · 19/04/2025 13:13

The part Mumsnet has played, and plays, in enabling women to come together, learn and discuss our needs and our rights - now confirmed by the Supreme Court - is absolutely fundamental and pivotal. So valuable, and so valued. Words can't quite convey it, which is a bit ironic! - but you know, I hope. FWR (as I still call it) is unique, and together, the online space you provide - and have held, despite commercial sanctions and reputational attacks - and the incredible women who post here and read here and take action as a result, have done something courageous and magnificent. It is the best online community in the world, ever. Without any doubt, future generations will know how important FWR has been in the long, ongoing struggle to protect women's rights. And I'm sure it always will be. Thank you.

"Temporary contractor" doesn't necessarily mean a junior member of staff. Some of ours cost £1k per day.

Even contractors on more than £1k a day rarely (probably never) have the formal authority to pull out of a partnership like that. You’re there to provide skills they don’t have in house, project manage, provide advice or do tedious work no one wants to do. Not make key partnership decisions that no one in the company knows about.

(Retired Temporary contractor who was on excess of £1k/day)
