Great result! I hadn't realised how worried I was until my very emotional reaction when Lord Hodge said that sex in the EA is biological (mind you, when the Judge who introduced the judgement asked for a respectful response, it did cross my mind to ask which 'side' was more likely to be noisily disrespectful if the judgement went against them). We owe FWS so much - thank you! It's definitely a high point in years of often difficult and depressing campaigning to defend our existing rights. Hugo Rifkind on Times Radio has been covering this on and off all morning and it's generally been very good. I'm off now to read the full judgement.

So is it going to be up to individual organisations whether they let trans people into single sex spaces. Like swimming pools and so on. And will trans prisoners now be transferred by law.

LittleBigHead · 16/04/2025 11:44

Just popping my head round the door to say

Fan-fucking-tastic

And also - this shouldn’t have to have happened.

Tootyfilou · 16/04/2025 11:44

I am SO happy .

I went away to do busy things and came back to find pages of whoops of joy!
Thank you for bringing the decision here, and thank you to all the wonderful brave women who have made this day possible💜
And praise where praise is due to your system of justice - Flawed with a capital F, but capable of applying fairness and logic to cases like this, the Forstater case, etc. That's more than can be said in a lot of jurisdictions around the world where women are still written out of the law.

Well done FWS!Flowers

I have some hope that this will encourage sanity in other jurisdictions.

What a wonderful outcome. Reality has won a legal victory, and though there will be pushback, this is a powerful tool to use in court cases and in battles over guidance and policy documents. Stonewall Law is dead!

I'm confused by this comment from the thread, how can this be interpreted as misogynistic/homophobic when it actually benefits women and lesbian groups!

This negative and incorrect perceived association with far right, extreme Christianity etc is so damaging, it has made me feel uncomfortable to share my opinion with anyone as I'll just be branded as far right (which I most definitely am not) for believing in biological sex.

Lesbians aren't homosexuals.

Men who identify as lesbians are.

That's why it's 'homophobic'.

Homophobia is legitimately recognised as not ok, so force teaming and claiming it's homophobic is particularly of the legitimisation process.

Except it's bollocks.

Skiol · 16/04/2025 11:46

Does this mean that organisations can’t use the single sex exemptions and include TW as women? As in, if they’re going to have a women’s changing room it can only be for women? So if they want to include tw in that the changing room would have to be labelled ‘mixed’ or ‘gender neutral’?

They won't be able to call them single sex if they do that. Single sex means single biological sex now. And hurrah for that.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 16/04/2025 11:46

A great day for sanity and fairness to all.

Yes, as we've been saying all along!

Wonderful news. I hadn’t realised how nervous I was about the outcome until I heard the outcome.

EasterParadeHats · 16/04/2025 11:47

How does stonewall get pulled out from all the places in invaded even that charity for women who had been abused etc.

Bannedontherun · 16/04/2025 11:47

Women can now complain of sex discrimination and harassment as against ant infringement on single sex spaces, and will without a doubt win.

I hadn’t really followed and the importance of it felt less stressful.

But I have been thinking since how bad it could have been. I cried for happiness not anger. I’m so relieved.

The thing is, this has been explained so clearly so many times. For most of the time, sex doesn't matter, but when it does matter, it REALLY matters.

God yes this is the perfect summary. It's all that was ever asked for by 'our side'.

It will be up to organisations to decide whether a space is single-sex...
if they don't then anyone can be there (trans / not)
if they do, then they can only admit that single-sex because e.g. trans-woman can not claim to be women to gain access to a women's only space

None of these people will have actually taken the time to read any of the judgement.

Strangely , the Woman’s Hour programme isn’t available on IPlayer?

sashh · 16/04/2025 11:50

I've just sent my carer out to buy cava.

Thank you to all the women who stood shoulder to shoulder whether as lawyers, professionals, ordinary women and out allies (Mr Meno) mothers, sports women... oh you get the idea, thank you all

Taytoface · 16/04/2025 11:50

Do we think they will appeal??

Great point - label your "women's" mixed-sex facilities accordingly and see how many customers you lose to businesses that understand single-sex means single-sex.

Yes........ but employers don't have a completely free rein eg to decide whether to offer single sex toilets, as that's a legal obligation https://sex-matters.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Briefing-for-employers-on-workplace-toilets.pdf

So (1) employers will require to provide single sex toilets and (2) transwomen not permitted to use female toilets, as they're not biological women

Thank you, I think I get what you mean. They've done a good job of twisting the outcome.
Can anyone explain the apparent association between FWS and anti abortion Christians? Total bollocks also, right? I have to confess like others on this thread I have only recently found myself invested in this movement so am very naive about it's background etc. I'd hate to be associated with anything that's anti abortion, right wing etc - but I see no indication that FWS are either of those things?
