Scottish Greens being sexist again

With Sparkles no longer a member other male Scottish Greens have had to step up to continue their terrible reputation. They are doing their bit.

Scottish Greens council candidate claimed JK Rowling was a Holocaust denier and said trans rapist Isla Bryson was a woman
Exclusive: Eryn Browning has been chosen by the Scottish Greens to contest a by-election in Clydebank Waterfront but offensive historic posts have resurfaced.

There is hope the Scottish Greens might plunge into civil war after their conference. Patrick Harvie is standing down as leader but Slater is standing again and there is opposition over her elitist behaviour.

Best, er… foot forwards, and all that.

The complaints against Chapman make sense. Bullies generally believe themselves to above the law and regulations. See her wider attitude towards the rule of law in her attack on the Supreme Court and her general attitude to criticism.

Anyway more internal drama for the Greens.

Should I be shocked that as many as 695 people voted for the Green candidate in Hamilton?

ArabellaScott · 09/06/2025 13:39

Most Green Party members are unaware of the internecine drama and half of the fuckery that goes on, let alone random voters.

Most Green voters still assume the party is all about the environment.

Well the Green's vote share fell from 5.2% of votes in 2021 to 2.6% in the recent by-election. Reform picked up 7088 (likely mostly ex-SNP voters and Conservatives). So a mixed bag.

Her TRA credentials are on display for all to see as targeting people's employment is a classic TRA tactic

The elections next year are going to be key. Some SNP people are blaming the loss of the byelection on the Greens assuming that the 695 votes would have gone to them. The SNP - Green rivalry already high after the Greens brought down Humza, looks likely to get stronger next year which is going to be significant as every vote will count.

With the rise of Reform as well and Scottish Labour and Tories desperate we can expect there to be more media coverage and drama than usual. So the Scottish Greens will get more of a spotlight and the other parties will be targeting them.

From all indications as pressure mounts the Scottish Greens are just going to double down on the crazy in the run up to the election. I mean Harvie being challenged by two trans males for his post for being a boring straight white man is something even Mumsnetters might have thought was a bit unlikely to happen.

With the recent demands that trans types be elevated inside the party there are bound to be some of them as Green candidates. On past trends the chances are high that at least one of those trans candidates for Holyrood is then exposed as a predator/creep when people are actually watching Scottish politics. I mean it has happened what 4 times now at least inside the Scottish Greens - Browning/Martin/Sparkles/Douglas.

I hereby apologise to Harvie for assuming his straightness.

However now we have to ask are the two trans males standing against him and suggesting he is not radical enough actually guilty of biphobia?

The research I did shows that Harvie is one of leading figures of the non-straight community in Scotland for years. I feel into the trap of judging by appearances. Maybe they are doing the same.

Harvie and the two trans males in Glasgow are now facing a radical Green opponent for becoming an MSP - an actual WOMAN. Moreover one who actually has had a useful job. Scottish Greens meetings in Glasgow are going to be a bit fraught I suspect.

Seonad Hoy, Green councillor for Hillhead, is challenging for a top slot on the party’s list for the Glasgow Region.
Nominations for the list have now opened and the 40 year-old Mum of two is declaring her intention and wants to be the first Green female MSP for Glasgow.

Hoy was elected to the council in a by-election in March last year, leaving her job with social landlord Wheatley Goup.

“I have real-world experience from working in the social housing sector.

She said she has a “deep understanding “ of the issue relevant because “we have a housing emergency in Glasgow”

The councillor added: “I feel well placed at a national level to ensure housing gets the investment it requires.

“There’s such a big demand for social housing with people trapped in temporary accommodation, including thousands of children. It’s not good enough.”

She also said she would be a “local champion” for local authority funding looking to reform taxation for a fairer system.

Hoy said: “The current council tax is regressive. People who can't afford it paying more than they should be.”

First of all, candidates for the Greens are selected for the regional list and then from that ,the constituency candidates are chosen to contest the first past the post seats, of which there are eight in Glasgow.

Hoy said: “I would like to feature on the regional list for Glasgow. I hope we will elect more than one MSP in Glasgow.”

To have the best chance of Holyrood she would need the top spot, occupied by Patrick Harvie for the last 20 years.

She said: “Patrick has been inspirational,” but added, “There’s strong competition among the Green politicians in the city.”

The single mum with two young kids has identified areas of concern that need priority.

She added: “We have a high rate of child poverty. We need a strong focus on children. Our children are going to be picking up the pieces.”

I'm so looking forward to the Green canvassers coming to my door before next year's election, they are the only ones who ever come around. It's going to be such fun.

Oh give it a rest Harvie! Fix the planet or do something else worthwhile.

Interesting article from The Times looking at the strong divisions inside the Greens. It skates over the way the gender wars are a deep part of the division inside the Greens. Harvie is just isn't sexist enough now it seems. It doesn't explore the number of predators within the Scottish Greens either:

Hilarious - the Green who accused Harvie of not being radical enough to stand aside for Trans women has been suspended. Harvie giving off secret Terf vibes perhaps!

Leading Scottish Greens activist suspended amid infighting

The Scottish Greens have suspended a prominent critic of Patrick Harvie and Ross Greer amid deepening internal divisions ahead of their summer leadership contest.
The Herald understands Niall Christie was suspended following multiple complaints submitted to party officials.
Sources say the move was partly linked to comments Mr Christie made in The Herald, where he urged men in leadership roles to step aside from the top of the party’s regional lists for next year’s Holyrood election.
The leading Glasgow activist specifically called on Mr Harvie and Mr Greer to make way for “radical women”, naming Ellie Gomersall and Iris Duane as “excellent candidates”. [Narrator - They were men]
