Scottish Greens being sexist again

With Sparkles no longer a member other male Scottish Greens have had to step up to continue their terrible reputation. They are doing their bit.

Scottish Greens council candidate claimed JK Rowling was a Holocaust denier and said trans rapist Isla Bryson was a woman
Exclusive: Eryn Browning has been chosen by the Scottish Greens to contest a by-election in Clydebank Waterfront but offensive historic posts have resurfaced.

There is hope the Scottish Greens might plunge into civil war after their conference. Patrick Harvie is standing down as leader but Slater is standing again and there is opposition over her elitist behaviour.

Adding this as the 'civil war' within the Greens continues. All the lads fighting.

The BBC following up on earlier articles from other sources so this drama is attracting attention. What is interesting is no-one is mentioning the fact in the media that it is noticeable that the Glasgow faction against Harvie is headed up by two trans males.

Some folks know what is going on.

For Women Scotland

Poor Paddy! You spend years bigging up the men in skirts at the expense of women and decent male politicians like Andy Wightman, and the ungrateful gits do this.

Take a heart of stone not to laugh...

snorts again

BREAKING Maggie Chapman ousted as top Green candidate in NE ahead of Holyrood 2026. Effectively deselected by local members.

fromorbit · 21/07/2025 12:45

Good news on Chapman. The feud with Ingerson finished her off. Very unlikely to win a second Msp there. The dodgy Trans male Esme Houston [see earlier in thread] came third behind in the list for the NE scary that Houston got that many votes.

In general though it seems the more crazy side of the Greens did not get their way. All of the existing candidates ecxept Chapman were reselected

Details;

In Glasgow Harvie is at the top with Gommershal at second and Duane fourth. So the Glasgow faction was defeated, but the TAs clearly have a lot of heft inside the party.

Green Maggie Chapman 'deselected' as Holyrood candidate after court ruling row

NEW: Chapman has been bumped to second place on the party's North East List.

Wadhwa came 7th in Edinburgh out of 12. Clearly not as popular as some.

'But Harvie has again topped the Glasgow List and Greer came first in the West of Scotland.

Former Minister Lorna Slater secured first place on the Edinburgh & Lothians East List, while Gillian Mackay did likewise in Central Scotland & Lothians West.'

Ringing the changes, then.

Reactions coming in

For Women Scotland

I guess Green's policy of men standing aside for women to take the top spot doesn't apply since Maggie's not even certain she is female.

But not sure what Harvie's excuse is for not standing aside for Ellie, since Ellie's absolutely sure he is female.

Oh, what a tangled web...

Does that mean Wadhwa is unlikely to get a seat? I'll admit this selection/voting process is a bit beyond me.

Calls for a recount ...

Greens release statement as members demand recounts | The Herald https://share.google/MK9KTNOvS6j5uNqJZ

Gomersall can't quite believe he was beaten by a man it seems.

I think Glasgow will be an interesting place for the Greens internally in the campaigns next year. Gomersall will have to campaign a lot for for Harvie to have any chance of being elected. Hopefully Gomersall will drag the Green vote down though.

Questioning the vote in the NE as well is absurd just because more people voted differently than last time.

"Maggie Chapman got around 50 more negative votes than would be expected for an incumbent MSP, and Guy Ingerson got around 50 more first-preference votes than might be expected.

Thing it is not because Ingerson was a great campaigner it is because Chapman was awful even for a Green. Saying that the Supreme Court needs effectively to be ignored is a Trump like defiance of the rule of law. Hardly surprising that a bunch of people voted against her.

Hilariously it seems that Chapman only lost because the Greens can't define what a woman is. As mentioned earlier in thread the Scottish Greens decided to drop the division by sex because that would mean accepting biology was a thing. Poetic justice !

Controversially, the party decided against any gender balancing mechanism in the selection contests.
"It is a massive surprise to see any incumbent not get selected. We were really sad not to see the gender balancing that we've had in the past," said one senior member.
"If there had been gender balancing she would have been in top ranked."

Get more popcorn.

Sounds like internal chaos in the Scottish Greens tonight following candidate list publication. Allegations that members’ votes (done through STV) have not been distributed properly. Party denies it. Now the internal elections officer has quit says she didn’t sign off on this

I hate that prick Gomersall, particularly after he pulled this shit -

In regards to the event - 'Elect Her, a government-funded initiative aimed at motivating women to take up political roles allowed several trans women to attend the event including Ellie Gomersall the president of NUS Scotland and Green Party campaigner.'

Sparkles blames Ingerson for targeting Chapman, for the same reason he got Sparkles deselected. There is some truth in that they are both useless so getting rid of them makes sense.

None of the greens got directly elected, they only get in on the proportional representation list with 1 pr list green getting to be an msp despite having only 3000 votes 😡.
With our system it only takes a few idiots to elected a twit

It's definitely shown the drawbacks with PR. Before it was enacted, it seemed like a sensible, equitable system. But seeing how very poor politicians have gained positions with a great deal of influence, having had a negligible vote of confidence from the voting public has been eye-opening.

I know, I think this is genuinely one of the funniest things I've ever heard. It is up there with the nightclub scene in The Inbetweeners movie as things that never fail to make me laugh out loud when I think of them.

A Scottish Greens spokesperson said "As said to members last night, we are speaking to the (election) provider to get more details about the approach used. These details will be shared with members in due course."'

Situation normal for the SGs..

Scottish Greens election 'clusterf*' as key member quits in candidate row
Speaking to The National, one member put it simply: "It's all a bit of a clusterfuck."
They added: "It's just spiralling more and more, and the party seem to want to try and ignore it, hoping it will blow over, but it won't."
Another member said: “This is an absolute mess. If someone like Kate Joester is stepping down, there must be something seriously wrong.
"This isn’t a factional issue, this is about basic fairness and democracy which is clearly not being applied.
"The results could easily be very different, and the longer questions aren’t answered, the more this looks like a cover-up to protect a chosen few."
