Oh dear, what a car crash. Well done Tom. I listened to this on my drive home and if you get the chance to listen on catch-up you will see her thought process is mind numbing.

This might sound odd, but I think I could give a reasonable definition of what "living as a woman" means, and what it boils down to is that other people think of you as, and treat you as, a woman. So other women invite you to their girls' nights out. Men patronise you and treat you as if you're stupid. In mixed-sex groups, you get talked over by men. You pay more to have your hair cut than you did as a man. When you go out at night, you hold your keys in your fist in case you get attacked. All that kind of thing. I'm surprised Denyer didn't think of any of that.

But what do you have to do to reach that point? For us, simply being born was enough. It’s not ‘living as a woman’ if you can simply opt out of all that treatment if you want to. We have no choice.

Denyer's maiden speech on 18 July. The first thing she did of substance in Parliament. First 10 seconds:

WTF?

Why is who she may be shagging in any way relevant to her ability to so the job she was elected to do?

Why would anybody think that including ones sex life in a professional role is ever in any way appropriate?

Beowulfa · 12/03/2025 10:36

I actually thought Denyer was really good on celebrity/Christmas University Challenge this year; she had a wide range of knowledge and was a decent team captain. Fascinating how otherwise well-read, educated people have their brains turned to cold porridge by rainbows and clownfish.

Like I said, she’s like an excited 17 year old who has just discovered ‘progressive’ regressive politics and is very very excited to share it with all the fuddy duddies in the room, because she knows her fellow cool classmates will clap and cheer. To anyone with half a brain over the age of 25, she sounds a complete tit. Thankfully the Greens will never have any meaningful power as they’re a bunch of cringey, navel gazing posers.

GailBlancheViola · 12/03/2025 11:09

I liked the way Tom just patiently and calmly repeated the question and let her make a fool of herself.

Wildflowers99 · 12/03/2025 11:11

Yes, he moved on at exactly the right moment before she could claw some kind of incomprehensible word salad out of the air as her ‘answer’. You could see her desperately trying to formulate it in the long silence 😂😂

withthegreatestrespect · 12/03/2025 11:15

You are a really poor politician if you cannot predict that such a question might come up and have some sort of answer prepared. The GP come across as so unserious and unprofessional.

I could somewhat understand if it was about something she’s never really come into contact and not campaigned on, for example dangerous cladding or smart motorways - something most politicians couldn’t give a well thought out answer to because they can’t be on top of every issue affecting the country.

But she’s been banging the transgender drum loudly and repeatedly now for years, it’s a huge interest of hers, so why can’t she answer what is literally the most basic question?

Because she lives in an echo chamber.

Because she lives in an echo chamber.

And that is what makes her so unprofessional. A cursory glance at YouGov polls would show her where most of the public, even younger voters, are on these issues.

I noticed some MPs leaving the chamber before Carla started with her “my pronouns are she / her”. Maybe they had an inkling she was going to embarrass herself in this way and couldn’t bear to witness it.

It's true that they can opt out at any point. But the question was what does it mean to "live as a woman" and my argument is that women and men do experience life differently (in fact, that's a basic tenet of feminism) and therefore "living as a woman" means being treated as a woman by other people.

My suspicion is that most trans-identifying men don't, in fact, get treated like other women, they get treated as trans-identifying men, because they don't pass. But I can't be sure.

That seems to be the case with a lot of them, though - I remember Rachel Reeves floundering when asked, while in opposition, to define "woman".

It seems to to be down to the fact that they have all adopted "trans women are women" as an article of faith, and have therefore never given a moment's thought to what it really means.

withthegreatestrespect · 12/03/2025 12:34

You would have thought that Nicola Sturgeon's 'Isla Bryson' interview would be required viewing for every politician.
In my mind it just shows how little these politicians actually care about women, despite all the VAWG rhetoric, and how irrelevant and niche they consider the whole issue to be

Denyer had better come up with a better answer in the next few weeks and months. There are several court cases coming up.

Ha! The same thought went through my mind! I remember her on the Xmas UC, and thinking, there's a bright, intelligent young woman. Then, you watch that video... 🙄

I’d love to hear an explanation of this because I really don’t think I live as a woman correctly

There isn’t one that doesn’t fall into stereotypes, dresses, long hair, feels.

She knows she can’t say that though.

NonCrimeHakeIncident · 12/03/2025 12:54

Yes, the way they are defended by other men shows that those men think of them as men, otherwise they wouldn’t be defending them. I’m fairly certain the man who recently leapt to Sarah McBride’s defence in a recent hearing wouldn’t have done so for a woman.

The other measure for passing seems to be “would a man have sex with me” and if so then they’re definitely considered a woman. Which is a very male perspective and also, a very low bar.

Fenlandia · 12/03/2025 12:54

What a great (and terrifying) clip and brilliant work from Tom Swarbrick.

If you can't define 'living as a woman' then it should have no place in law or granting of special privileges.

theilltemperedqueenofspacetime · 12/03/2025 13:01

There is guidance on you.gov about how to prove that you have been living in your acquired gender eg a man living as a woman:

Evidence of living in your gender for the last 2 years
You’ll need copies of evidence to show that you’ve been living in your affirmed gender for the last 2 years.
Each piece of evidence should contain at least one of the following that matches up with your affirmed gender:

  • a name
  • a title, like ‘Mr’ or ‘Miss’
  • a gender marker, like ‘male’ or ‘female’
There are no other specific requirements for this evidence, but try to find:
  • evidence from different points over the 2 years, with roughly 1 piece of evidence for every 3 months
  • at least one piece of evidence from the last 2 or 3 months
  • evidence from a variety of different sources
The evidence can come from before you were diagnosed with gender dysphoria. Examples of what you can send in include good quality photocopies or photographs of:
  • your driving licence
  • your passport
  • etc etc

So it is literally changing your name, title, and sex marker on your ID. There are no other requirements for this aspect of a GRC application (although, I assume there are behaviours that would facilitate getting the GD diagnosis that is also required).

So the correct answer is "living as a woman means changing your identity documents".

HTH

FetchezLaVache · 12/03/2025 13:04

This clip shows how easy it is to opt out of male bullying and aggression as a woman... if you are actually a man.

(Almost certainly staged, but the point stands.)

I saw her with her short hair and wondered if she's living as a man.
She's been told to tow the party line but not been prepared for awkward and common sense questions from journalists. Shame really.

She is co-leader of the GPEW. She is the party line
