Man who brutally attacked his partner is being released and she is told to stop campaigning to keep him inside

I remember this 2011 case when it happened, and was shocked by the brutality. He blinded her in a vicious attack.

She wasn't told that his release had been approved until the deadline had passed for her to object.

She claims probation officers guilt tripped her over her campaign to keep him inside.

Tina has also set up a petition against his release which has already been signed by more than 11,000 people.
But instead of applauding her efforts to raise awareness, Tina claims probation chiefs 'told her off' for speaking out about her case with one asking her 'don't you feel sorry for him, putting this on his head?'
She said: 'When they said that to me I felt confused - I have every right to speak out and I don't want this to be brushed under the carpet. I don't want this to happen to anybody else.'
The Probation Service is currently investigating Tina's complaint about the comment and the staff member involved is understood to deny using those words. Tina has since decided to sever contact with the Probation Service.

I read Tina's book and it affected me so profoundly that I still think about it regularly.

He had her so fucked up psychologically, and frightened to leave him, that she 'took him back' (was mentally forced to allow him back) after he served a prison sentence for a previous violent attack on her - an attack that was so bad, the police built her a panic room in her house because they thought he would break in and try to kill her.

She was so terrified of him that she dropped out of being a witness against him for another violent attack against her - even though the judge was so concerned he dismissed everyone else from the court and quizzed her to try to ensure she understood the risks involved in not testifying and getting him put away.

He took illegal steroids. He controlled her psychically and physically.

The final attack on her took place over I think about 12 hours and was so bad I cried and retched.

I think he is a demon, not a man. I can't believe he could be up for parole. I feel so badly for Tina and for what was done to her. And for her children who witnessed so much.

If this man is released then honestly I will have to believe that the justice system is totally uninterested in keeping women safe.

Finally - on GMB now

Can it be true that The Guardian has not covered Tina Nash's story since 2013? That's the latest I can find. And I can't see that BBC Woman's Hour have mentioned the latest developments.

We're heavily reliant on GMB, GB News and The Daily Mail to highlight this hideous case?

Tina Nash isn't one of ths special new kind of "women" who have penises, so the Guardian won't be interested.

Anyone know how long it takes for your MP to respond to an email?

I sent one on the 10th, including my address so he's aware I'm in his constituency.

Depends. Some MPs never respond at all. A decent one will at least get a staff member to respond within a week or so.

May be worth booking an appointment at their surgery.

EmeraldDreams73 · 27/03/2025 19:57

Thank you for this. I have signed and emailed as well. I'm beyond appalled that this monster could be considered for release.

ArabellaScott · 31/03/2025 15:54

Had a response from the MoJ/HM Prisons re Shane Jenkins.

The gist of it was that if he's approved for open prison, there will be conditions attached. He will be risk assessed. He will be on life license and could be recalled at any time.

I don't find this even slightly reassuring, tbh. This man is too dangerous to be released, ever.

FlowchartRequired · 31/03/2025 16:21

I agree, it's not reassuring at all.

BunfightBetty · 31/03/2025 16:36

Ridiculous response from the MoJ. What use will any restrictions be? He’s proved he doesn’t care about consequences

Their stance is basically that if he does anything bad, he'll go back to prison.

That will be no comfort to Tina Nash, nor any other women who may cross his path.

Here is Shabana Mahmood's email address, and an email to copy/paste, if you wish:

[email protected]

Email subject: Shane Jenkin

Email content:

Dear Shabana,

I implore you to cancel the decision to release Shane Jenkin, who viciously gouged out the eyes of Tina Nash.

He is a danger both to Tina Nash, to other women, and to society at large.

He has been assessed by criminology experts as potentially being a psychopath, and should be re-evaluated as such.

Please reconsider this decision.

Regards

Exactly. It’s completely unacceptable. But women don’t matter, as we know 😞
