Man who brutally attacked his partner is being released and she is told to stop campaigning to keep him inside

I remember this 2011 case when it happened, and was shocked by the brutality. He blinded her in a vicious attack.

She wasn't told that his release had been approved until the deadline had passed for her to object.

She claims probation officers guilt tripped her over her campaign to keep him inside.

Tina has also set up a petition against his release which has already been signed by more than 11,000 people.
But instead of applauding her efforts to raise awareness, Tina claims probation chiefs 'told her off' for speaking out about her case with one asking her 'don't you feel sorry for him, putting this on his head?'
She said: 'When they said that to me I felt confused - I have every right to speak out and I don't want this to be brushed under the carpet. I don't want this to happen to anybody else.'
The Probation Service is currently investigating Tina's complaint about the comment and the staff member involved is understood to deny using those words. Tina has since decided to sever contact with the Probation Service.

I bet one of the first things he does on release is sign up to Tinder, it makes your blood run cold. I've signed & donated, thanks OP

Emailed. Adapted it slightly as identical email tend to be treated less seriously.

You are correct to say that. My MP won't deal with standard campaign emails. He wants to know the impact to/on his constituent.

Good on the DM for making sure his mug shot is everywhere

This sounds a lot like the Worboys case. Astonishingly, despite raping potentially hundreds of women, the parole board said he was suitable to be released because he had found religion and was accepting guilt for his crimes after six years of denying it. This was despite a pscyh report which said he was a devious manipulator, and despite comments where he said the women were 'happy drunks' who were 'up for it'. This decision was only overturned on judicial review, and the court found that the parole board took everything Worboys said at face value and didn't question his account. It's astonishing to me that the parole board can ever seriously consider letting these kinds of men out.

have tweeted the article to Mahmood and Harriet Harmann (i can't believe her appointment, i am staggered)

We know what will happen. He will harm/kill another woman. And/or Tina.

And there will be handwringing.

We need to find our rage every day.

And we will hear the inevitable Lessons will be learnt crap and know that they never will be.

Those who approved his release will never be held accountable nor even take responsibility which they damn well should.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/03/2025 11:29

Haven't re-read the details, as I remember it all too horribly from the reporting at the time.

Yes I think quite a few people here do, it's not easily forgotten.

Yes, absolutely.

Here is Shabana Mahmood's email address, and an email to copy/paste, if you wish:

[email protected]

Email subject: Shane Jenkin

Email content:

Dear Shabana,

I implore you to cancel the decision to release Shane Jenkin, who viciously gouged out the eyes of Tina Nash.

He is a danger both to Tina Nash, to other women, and to society at large.

He has been assessed by criminology experts as potentially being a psychopath, and should be re-evaluated as such.

Please reconsider this decision.

Regards

[your name]

I think it might be ignored if you just send this to Shabana Mahmood. I think you're supposed to write to your constituency MP and ask them to raise it with the relevant minister.

If a lot of MPs get emails about it there's a good chance that at least one of them will follow up.

This is what Shabana Mahmood says on her website about contacting her:
I maintain an office to serve my constituents as the Member of Parliament for Birmingham Ladywood. My constituency team do not deal with enquiries relating to my role as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice. Visit the Ministry of Justice website for contact details.

Of course, you can still tweet her, Harriet Harman or anyone else about this as well.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2025 11:43

Email autorespond from Shabhana to say that mail gets forwarded to DoJ.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2025 11:45

Cross post, OldCrone. I'm not sure an email to SM will do much.

Unfortunately my fucking useless MP will do fuck all about anything, ever, and appears to have blacklisted me as an inconvenient botherer.

Still, I'll email him and ask to raise it. If nothing else it might irritate the bugger a little, and that's better than nothing.

PerkingFaintly · 10/03/2025 11:48

The email you have to click to validate your petition signature took more than an hour to come through to me.

Might have been just my email having problems, but if anyone else is hasn't been able to validate immediately it's worth continuing to check.

My prediction... he will be released. He will go and kill Tina and then we will be told "mistakes were made", "lessons have been learnt" blah blah blah. Meanwhile Tina will still be dead, her family will have to deal with their trauma. Nothing will change.

That is the grim pattern that we keep seeing.

Lessons are never learnt.

I think we need the names and photographs of all the people involved in the decision to free this insanely dangerous man.

They must each be held personally responsible. Including having to pay at least a million quid out of their own assets in insufficient compensation to her two sons.

Perhaps then our politicians and parole boards will be personally motivated to do the work our taxes pay them to do?

Failing that we are going to have to look into vigilante justice. Somehow arranging for these monsters to be permanently stopped if they ever make the mistake of approaching their victims again.

Spareusername5 · 10/03/2025 12:17

Thanks for this, have signed and donated.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2025 12:24

I don't generally think vigilante justice is a good thing, but if the justice system continues to fail women so egregiously, so frequently, and so predictably, then I will be wholly unsurprised if it doesn't increase in prevalence.

Have you considered going to one or more of his surgeries?

ScrambledSmegs · 10/03/2025 12:32

Are parole boards exclusively staffed with gullible idiots?

Actually don't answer that, I suspect the answer is too terrifying to contemplate.

Justcallmebebes · 10/03/2025 12:48

I've just signed the petition. Outrageous that he's being released

CanOfMangoTango · 10/03/2025 12:56

Thank you @Ereshkigalangcleg and @Pickupapen

I have written to my MP and donated some money to Tina.

I don't think he does them, but in all honesty, there is no point. He's set to broadcast only, not receive. Likes a photoshoot but glazes over at any attempt at engagement.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2025 13:03

Anyway, sorry, I don't want to derail the thread.

I hope the decision is reviewed.

RanchRat · 10/03/2025 13:33

Poor woman. Petition signed.

DialSquare · 10/03/2025 13:52

Absolutely horrific. Donated and signed the petition.

Notquitegrownup2 · 10/03/2025 17:57

Donating . . . and bumping for the evening crowd. This needs to be shared/seen. That poor woman and her boys . . .

MuckFusk · 10/03/2025 23:29

mrshoho · 10/03/2025 07:55

It must be a terrifying prospect for Tina to know that her attacker will soon be released. But why should she have to move away and change her identity? She currently has a vital support network for her and her family and is living in her familiar surroundings. It should be the perpetrator who should be restrained from going anywhere near her area. He wouldn't see the light of day if it was my decision. This was more than GBH and why he was not convicted of attempted murder I do not know.

I know and I agree, but the reality is what it is. She shouldn't have to, but for her own sake she might have to. It's completely unjust.

ArabellaScott · 11/03/2025 07:11

Bump.
