Man who brutally attacked his partner is being released and she is told to stop campaigning to keep him inside

I remember this 2011 case when it happened, and was shocked by the brutality. He blinded her in a vicious attack.

She wasn't told that his release had been approved until the deadline had passed for her to object.

She claims probation officers guilt tripped her over her campaign to keep him inside.

Tina has also set up a petition against his release which has already been signed by more than 11,000 people.
But instead of applauding her efforts to raise awareness, Tina claims probation chiefs 'told her off' for speaking out about her case with one asking her 'don't you feel sorry for him, putting this on his head?'
She said: 'When they said that to me I felt confused - I have every right to speak out and I don't want this to be brushed under the carpet. I don't want this to happen to anybody else.'
The Probation Service is currently investigating Tina's complaint about the comment and the staff member involved is understood to deny using those words. Tina has since decided to sever contact with the Probation Service.

I remember this case too, it haunted me. I cannot believe that they are even contemplating releasing him.

Cheepcheepcheep · 09/03/2025 18:42

Thank you so much for sharing this, I’ve signed the petition.

mrshoho · 09/03/2025 18:47

I just signed the petition and read his long list of prior brutal attacks. It also states he has been violent towards an inmate whilst serving his sentence. I feel sick that someone in the justice system has deemed him safe to be released.

BunfightBetty · 09/03/2025 19:01

How on earth has this psycho been deemed suitable for release? Whichever eejits did so need an almighty kick up the jacksy.

Signed the petition. I feel so sorry for Tina. I can’t imagine what she must be feeling.

Yes, there is a petition and a crowdfunder for home security, linked in the article. She's terrified of him.

God, it's hardly surprising, given the depravity of his assault on her. I'd be bloody terrified in her situation. The Probation Service has behaved terribly, even if they "only" forgot to inform her in time.

How long will it be before he harms another victim? I damn well hope he is made the subject of one of those orders where he has to tell the Police, if he intends to speak to a woman.

Here is Shabana Mahmood's email address, and an email to copy/paste, if you wish:

Email subject: Shane Jenkin

Email content:

Dear Shabana,

I implore you to cancel the decision to release Shane Jenkin, who viciously gouged out the eyes of Tina Nash.

He is a danger both to Tina Nash, to other women, and to society at large.

He has been assessed by criminology experts as potentially being a psychopath, and should be re-evaluated as such.

Please reconsider this decision.

Regards

Thanks for this. I've signed the petition, emailed and donated. He's such an animal, that I chose to donate anonymously. I have an unusual name and wouldn't want that man to even be able to read it.

If he strikes fear into people who read about him, I can't even imagine how Tina must feel at the thought of his release.

She is an amazing woman, to speak out and raise awareness. I hope that they will return him to secure prison.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/03/2025 22:26

That's brilliant @Pickupapen, thank you!

The Labour promise of reducing violence against women and girls and here we have this absolute monster up for release and not only that he is in an open prison currently.

It truly beggars belief.

Ramblingnamechanger · 10/03/2025 00:17

The link from the petition site to the CF does not seem to be working. How can this man ever be deemed suitable for release? He is playing the system for sure.

MuckFusk · 10/03/2025 00:26

Terrifying. What she needs to do is move far away and change her name. I would be glad to help her do this but am not in the UK. Does anyone know if there is a domestic abuse underground railroad operating in the UK?
Home security is not nearly enough.

Thanks so much for this.

The point is that criminals don't even get locked up for life when they commit murder these days. But I agree he should be banned from living or going into an area at least 50 miles from her home and should wear a tag for the rest if his life miles from her. But I understand why she doesn't want him released.

It must be a terrifying prospect for Tina to know that her attacker will soon be released. But why should she have to move away and change her identity? She currently has a vital support network for her and her family and is living in her familiar surroundings. It should be the perpetrator who should be restrained from going anywhere near her area. He wouldn't see the light of day if it was my decision. This was more than GBH and why he was not convicted of attempted murder I do not know.

In the US some states stream their parole hearings.

It’s truly eye-opening. People who were sentenced for over a 100 years can have a review in 4 years or less.

Commentators also describe the local politics and frank corruption that lead to some outcomes.

We need more Open Justice and streaming in the UK.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 10/03/2025 08:12

Anyone who does what he did to Tina should never be allowed out

its as simple as that

anyolddinosaur · 10/03/2025 09:18

Emailed. Adapted it slightly as identical email tend to be treated less seriously.

Brefugee · 10/03/2025 09:23

have tweeted the article to Mahmood and Harriet Harmann (i can't believe her appointment, i am staggered)

We know what will happen. He will harm/kill another woman. And/or Tina.

And there will be handwringing.

We need to find our rage every day.

WarriorN · 10/03/2025 09:27

Just horrific. It seems inevitable that he will do something to her or another woman.

WarriorN · 10/03/2025 09:32

Signed and donated

Brefugee · 10/03/2025 09:33

thanks for the email template - i have slightly amended it and addressed it also to Harriet Harmann who has been (unbelievably) named as special envoy for women and girls. I added this:

"I'm sure that Harriet will want to address this as a matter of urgency given her new appointment.
Now is the time to show women and girls that they matter, that violence against them will be punished to the fullest possible extent of the law. As you know, this is hardly ever the case, and in view of renewed promises to address this issue, this case would be the perfect time to show us you care. That the government takes this seriously."

I also cc to my constituency MP (who, i have to say, has up to now done good work in the field of disabilities)

we will see what comes of this.

CalicoPusscat · 10/03/2025 09:35

Poor woman, what a vicious attack.

WarriorN · 10/03/2025 09:36

Email sent

annonymousse · 10/03/2025 09:41

My prediction... he will be released. He will go and kill Tina and then we will be told "mistakes were made", "lessons have been learnt" blah blah blah. Meanwhile Tina will still be dead, her family will have to deal with their trauma. Nothing will change.

PerkingFaintly · 10/03/2025 09:42

Thanks for the notice about this and the petition.

Haven't re-read the details, as I remember it all too horribly from the reporting at the time.
