People with a cervix

This has really annoyed me.

Official documentation from the NHS, aka the national medical professionals, should know that it's ONLY women who have a cervix.

What is this non sentence of all women and people with a cervix?

^ sorry, the first para.

JustTalkToThem · 28/02/2025 18:55

The current one does say women though…

Edited

I just had a look. It says "women and people with a cervix" which is arguably even more weird, confusing and inaccurate.

TheDogIsMyShadow · 28/02/2025 18:57

Everyone knows that only women have a cervix, some people like to pretend otherwise, but it is just pretend, they know the truth really.

I suppose at least they actually say women, I’ve seen things where it just refers to ‘people with a cervix’, with no mention of women at all. Madness. 🤪

You may be more optimistic than I am, but I'd be willing to bet that there are people of both sexes that don't even know what a cervix is.

IEatSauerkrautBeforeItWasCool · 28/02/2025 19:01

Like this it's fine. It's not deleting women.

TheNinny · 28/02/2025 19:01

This shite is always forced on women. Bet there won’t be nhs letters with ‘people with a prostate’ anytime soon.

TeenLifeMum · 28/02/2025 19:01

We have to say it. We have fought to include the word “women”! That honestly was a win.

Happyher · 28/02/2025 19:02

Just say women and trans men. Everyone who’s targetted will then understand when I see ‘people with a cervix’ I always wonder how many men start to wonder if they have a cervix!?

All the more reason to make it clear on any communication that only women have them then. This just confuses things.

Fedupmumofadultsons · 28/02/2025 19:03

Honestly I feel it's just madness now trans men . clearly have woman body parts well most do so we need to get the message across they need the same checks as us. just saying anyone that was born female might be better
But Honestly who cares I just treat it as the next craze and they will grow out if it soon .as most do so if we need to listen to them for a whole fine it will blow over soon in my opinion

arethereanyleftatall · 28/02/2025 19:04

Are you transgender? If not, then it's not your place to say.

I cannot believe you have just typed that out @Catza

So women aren't allowed to say what they find offensive, but transgender people are? Why?

I care. This ideology is harmful, especially to women and children. If we normalise wording like this, it normalises the harmful ideology and it spreads further.

Catza · 28/02/2025 18:58

Sure. But women also includes transgender men (I assume, it is your stance) so do they not get a say now?

Your initial post implied that only trans people have a right to a say

The post I was replying to objected to the previous post which suggested a couple of extra words to make other people comfortable is no skin off anyone's back. The poster then said she was offended as it was dehumanizing. Hence my comment that she couldn't possibly judge if a transgender man feels the same way or if they actually feel more included by this wording which, presumably, is what we would want seeing our strong feelings about sisterhood..

SophiePie · 28/02/2025 19:10

The NHS page on prostate cancer only mentions men for some reason...what about trans women?

MugsyBalonz · 28/02/2025 19:10

Transpeople are as entitled to cancer screening as non-transpeople. The aim of these posters and letters isn't to enforce an ideology or to pander to anything, the aim of them is to encourage as many eligible people as possible to access screening that could potentially save their life . Personally I'm happy for the NHS to use whatever wording they need to ensure that happens.

Already addressed it elsewhere ..

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 28/02/2025 18:21

It’s a way of including trans men.

It’s a couple of extra words to make people feel more comfortable.

It’s a good thing.

I don't think it is a good thing.

It feeds in to the delusions.

Transmen know full well that they have a cervix. More than anyone, trans people are surely very well aware of their bodies.

A transman is someone who feels like she is a man, wants to dress like a man and be treated as if she were a man. No problem.

But she, like it or not, will always be female. Female for medical purposes given every chromosome in her body is XX the female chromosome.

That's just reality.

She knows she's a women for medical purposes.

So this feeds in to the absolutely absurd pretence we're currently living through that people can choose what sex they are. You can't. Tough.

Motnight · 28/02/2025 19:12

It includes the word women which seemed for a while to be in danger of disappearing. I don't think it's terribly worded.

SophiePie · 28/02/2025 19:10

The most cursory of googling proves you wrong.

A direct quote from the NHS webpage:

"The prostate is a small gland found only in men and trans women."

Women, it's not your place to say if you're offended or not 🙄

Trans, on the other hand, you can be as offensive as you like 👍🏻

You're absolutely right.

Is it any wonder that Trump at al have co-opted this issue? It was an easy target because pur politicians have been too cowardly to sort it out.

We all know only women have a cervix and yet somehow it's fine to erase women

Transmen know they're women, they know they need women's health care. The dignity of all other women doesn't need to be chucked under the bus to pretend they're not women.

HRTQueen · 28/02/2025 19:14

I am not bothered as long as woman/women isn't replaced with people/person who have a cervix

Woman/women should not be replaced or have an added prefix cis which thankfully seems so 2020

MiddleAgedDread · 28/02/2025 18:38

It’s horrible and I’ve yet to see anything referred to as “people with a penis” (although I’m sure MN will prove me wrong!)

Edited

Do men who identify as women get people with a penis

Imagine you have low literacy skills or English is not your first language. What's going to be easier to understand, "people born female" or simply "women"?

I am confident that all of the people I work with who do have low literacy skills and/or English as a second or third language would be fine with this. To be clear, personally, I'm fine with 'woman' too, but sticking to the facts ('born female') would help the most people.

namechangeGOT · 28/02/2025 19:15

GargoylesofBeelzebub
No it's not. It's really dehumanising and offensive.

Are you transgender? If not, then it's not your place to say.

@Catza Didn't take long before you tried censoring what women can say, do and think did it?
