Unison Women's Conference motion "trans women are women" as nurses battle NHS for single sex facilities

the Unison motion, put forward by the union’s Camden branch, asserts that “trans women are women and trans men are men”.

It goes on to denounce the idea that allowing trans women to access female spaces will mean women lose rights and claims women have “a vested interest in standing alongside our trans comrades”.

Unison’s national women’s conference, to begin in Edinburgh on Thursday, is expected to pass a call to produce a “myth-busting factsheet” which would “counter the idea” that trans and women’s rights are ever in conflict.

The motion, which insiders said they believed would likely pass, states that “gender-critical groups and individuals often organise around women-only spaces and the idea that trans people having rights means that women will lose rights.”

It adds “women’s rights are not diminished by trans people having more rights” and calls for literature to be created “to counter the idea that an increase in trans rights would mean a decrease in the rights of others”.

Its the whole sell out of it being the Women's Conference that this is being put forward at.

Assuming it is actually voted what does that say to women who want to be sure of their sex based rights if those operating a service or facility have voted for this.

Are we going to have to ask staff which Union are you in?

This is a lovely bit of gas lighting. What if the tribunal finds in SPs favour. Would they still deny there is a conflict of rights?

Anyone in Unison should be contacting their rep - or doing anything else they can to loudly say "not in my name".

Given that around 2/3rds of Unison's ,embers are women - many of them low paid women - the Camden branch exhibiting their capture by this niche luxury belief is a bit oif an own goal isn't it? Not that I suppose they'd dare stand up to the men in charge given the general track record of abuse of women by so many men in the union movement.

Most unions have now been taken over by a hard core of radicals, who as you suggest, do not really represent the vast majority of people they are supposed to represent. It is all agitation and ferment.

At the LWS event outside the Labour party conference in 2023....lots of union reps walked by and even joined in the harranguing and shouting which was directed at the women by the TRAS who had turned up with their drums and whistles etc

Many CLP's have also been hijacked by radicals.

This is why I left the union - I'd rather take my chances with the employer than pay the union to give away my rights.

It's so weird. 'there is no conflict' while there are several ongoing court cases about the 'conflict' they are referring to.

I suspect they would argue the only reason for the conflict is that the “bigots” need “educating”

I’d mentioned to my husband that the nurse in Scotland hadn’t had a crowdfunder for the fees and he naively replied that he assumed her union was backing her.

The men have no idea how much of a hold this ideology has on every institution.

Come to that, has a union ever backed a woman member in a case like this?

When unions are passing motions that "trans women are women" (like "Brexit means Brexit", but make it woke) and 50 something Lib Dem councillors from Wokingham are putting pronouns in their Twitter handles and criticising people for misgendering sex offenders, it all looks about as on trend as "live laugh love" wall decals.
