would you say mumsnet these days is a safe space for a non-transphobic lesbian with children to hang out?

Style and Beauty is particularly, shall we say, robust.

I can handle it. I identify as both stylish and beautiful 😂.

<checks spray paint colours>

Can be.

If it washes off in the rain, I'm not interested.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/02/2025 22:23

That's beautiful @larklane17

Healthyban · 04/02/2025 22:23

Non het cif! Consistent huff!
you people are genius

TENSsion · 04/02/2025 22:23

If by “safe” you mean “never disagreeing with me” then, no. It’s not the place for you.

Igneococcus · 04/02/2025 22:24

Spike 🤔
More a vampire name maybe.

Of course it's safe. Nobody is going to reach through the screen and grab you. Or by 'safe', did you mean 'am I going to only encounter views I agree with?'. That's not what 'safe' means.

The original meaning of 'safe space' was a space where people were permitted to make mistakes. To say the unsayable while trying to maintain open, constructive debate.

It's a damn shame it's somehow 180d into the current accepted usage.

The real history of the ‘safe space’

There’s much debate in the media about a culture of demanding ‘safe spaces’ at university campuses in the US, a culture which has been accused of restricting free speech by defini…

If you're making tea, mine's milk and one spoon of sugar.

And a packet of Jaffa cakes please.

Edited

Builders strength do you? Or are you a just wave a teabag in the vicinity of the cup strength person?

Does having a fire breathing dragon reduce your energy bill?

Plus how many Mumsnet sized chickens will I need per week to feed one?

Edited

Well if you know what you’re doing, and have decent ‘larder staples’ to hand, a corn fed farm chicken will easily feed a family of a 5 dragons for just over a week.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/02/2025 22:25

.......non-het-non-cif

Which reminds me of Christmas Day 1984, when my neice decided to try some Cif at my sister's house. She was thirteen months old.

We had to abandon the turkey and go to A & E.

So I take it informing AIBU that I own many toilet brushes would be a no no then?

You wouldn't get out alive, Boiledbeetle.

Whispers - I own many toilet brushes too, but keep it just between us.

Tell the Litter Tray that you’re buying a cat from Gumtree as your 5 year old’s birthday present, & intend to let her have just one litter.

Your screen might melt, but you’ll still be safer than I’d feel if I went to Pride in my LGB Alliance T-shirt.

rexrabbit · 04/02/2025 21:14

I meant safe as in feeling non marginalised or invalidated

Do people disagreeing with you make you feel marginalised or invalidated ? If so better go elsewhere. One thing this place is not is an echo chamber.

Maaate · 04/02/2025 22:23

Tell them that you clean it in the dishwasher 😜

What's the problem with toilet brushes? How else do you clean the toilet?

No33 · 04/02/2025 22:26

Boiledbeetle · 04/02/2025 21:25

The globe is definitely flat

Apologies, that was my fault. I sat on it.

Put it in the dishwasher.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 04/02/2025 22:26

No no no no no.

I'm not having any of this multiple-Drogon nonsense.

One name, one dragon.

Totally permanent.

It'll take a bit longer to dry, if you don't mind the wait.

The only people who aren't 'safe' on mumsnet are transgender people and those who love a transgender person.

Because this board is full of aggressively transphobic posters who can't mention transgender people without mentioning in the next breath that they see them primarily as a danger to others, and that the start and end point of gender non-conformism is that can be can and should be 'cured' with therapy.

There's been real pleasure expressed on these board about what's happening to transgender people in the US right now, and distaste for the words of Bishop Budde in calling for mercy and kindness towards transgender people who are scared about their futures under Trump.

If you're ok with hearing that shit then this is a safe space for you.

Omg, this. If women talking about things that only affect women makes someone feel 'unsafe', then I'd suggest that someone needs to work on their resilience.

Sadly Style and Beauty tell me that no matter how I identify I am dumpy, mummsy and dowdy.
