would you say mumsnet these days is a safe space for a non-transphobic lesbian with children to hang out?

What is your concern?

Hi OP. I'm also a non-transphobic lesbian with children (adult ones, in their 30s). I've never felt unsafe browsing MN, and I don't quite see what hazards a message board presents. The worst experience I've had was posting a thread in AIBU and getting my arse handed to me by what seemed like a lot of posters. Some random strangers on a message board told me I was wrong, but nothing bad happened as a result. I could have avoided it by not starting a thread on MN's shoutiest and judgiest board. Assuming you have normal(ish) levels of resilience you'll be absolutely fine. There's no need to worry about transphobia, it's not allowed. Some posters think sex matters in law and policy and we're not afraid to say so. If you don't want to engage with such views, it's easy to avoid, just stay off the sex and gender board.

Hello Broon, nice to see you in here.

You’re offering to swop your cats for beetles?

I feel that beetles would be less trouble than cats who are arranging a stag do, despite the fact that the prospective groom has so far failed to secure a bride.

Sneezeless · 04/02/2025 22:17

I think that you need to get back under your bridge.

ArabellaScott · 04/02/2025 22:18

Drogon?! Fuck OFF. No.

I demand a better quiz.

Excellent post, someone give morningtoncrescent62 a fire breathing dragon.

If you're making tea, mine's milk and one spoon of sugar.

And a packet of Jaffa cakes please.

Futurename · 04/02/2025 22:19

MN has never been a safe space for anyone.

Boiledbeetle · 04/02/2025 22:19

Delphinium20 · 04/02/2025 22:13

I've recently lost my dragon and heard that MN might know something about this? Might one of you be harboring him? He's got green eyes and a purple striped tail. I painted his nails white in honor of St. Brigid, but I think that might have annoyed him and he's since run off.

Sigh. If you find him, let him know Mother misses him.

<Pushes Dragon into cupboard>
<Holds door shut with foot.>
<regrets not wearing fire retardant clothing>

Nope. Not seen him. Hope you find him good luck

I thought it was some kind of cleaning product.

Maybe that was 'Cif'.

It's all a bit non-het-non-cif.

You don’t need to shout from the roof tops on every post that you’re lesbian and ‘none transphobic’, because the information isn’t going to be relevant to most topics of conversation. People honestly don’t care about your sexual orientation. I can categorically say I’ve never read any homophobic comments on these boards. Regarding transphobic, people do have opinions about the biology of it, and are passionate about retaining safe spaces for women - it is a predominantly women lead board after all, so not sure why that would be surprising at all?!

You & DH would get fewer scratches, & your regular visitor would probably be over the moon.

DrSpartacularsMagnificentOctopus · 04/02/2025 22:20

I also got Drogon.

Strength in numbers though, probably enough of us Drogons to warrant our own safe space.

Healthyban · 04/02/2025 22:21

boiledbeetle I am honored! Your posts always amuse!
please help yourself to tea, and a biscuit or three. I will be in my safe space having a soothing massage as befits my name.

Have you ever made the mistake of posting on AIBU, admitting to owning a toilet brush, or being autistic? There's lots of things that posters on here will "invalidate" (aka criticise) you for.

No one's fist will fly through the screen into your face though, unlike what might happen to a gender-critical lesbian at Pride.

So I take it informing AIBU that I own many toilet brushes would be a no no then?
