would you say mumsnet these days is a safe space for a non-transphobic lesbian with children to hang out?

Hi there @XXylophonic !
P.s. I've no idea why people keep insisting you're all mean and nasty on this board The nappy women were much scarier.😆

Hi, it's because women on this board support women and girls first and foremost and aren't afraid to say it. If someone turns up here without strong arguments they get their arse swiftly handed to them. Apparently that's mean and nasty and NOT KIND.

DialSquare · 05/02/2025 17:00

After the male of the European nursery-web spider has located a suitable mate, he captures a fly, wraps it in silk, and presents it to the female; while the female is occupied with eating the fly, the male mates with her. If no fly is available, the male may wrap a pebble.’

Don't give my OH any ideas. He'll turn up with a box of Krispy Kreme donuts wrapped in a silk scarf before I can blink!
He wouldn't bother with the pebble though as he knows it wouldn't fool me.

It's because...

"I've been reading and learning and then reading some more."

TRAs like to insist that you educate yourself but don't like it when you actually do just that

I'm just happy to have finally found a board on the internet that seems relatively sane

DeanElderberry · 05/02/2025 17:15

'relatively' 😀

Ha, anybody reading it might have thought differently last night! 😁

Seriously though, there's hardly any places on the internet where women and their allies can discuss these issues without being censored and shut down. That in itself tells you a lot.

on this forum, not real life. in real life all the people I know look down on mumsnet and boycott it for this reason in the same way they avoid x and truthsocial

Look down on the whole of Mumsnet?
That seems to be a pretty naive statement from people who haven’t yet had much need of any female peer support through some tough life experiences.
Sounds like lazy uninformed stereotyping to me. Perhaps you are young and look down on older women? I suggest you look at some wider support threads (e.g. Elderly parents) before you sneer and feel
superior.

Shrug - I have the opposite experience. My friends are strongly live and let live, but object to men in women's spaces and any mucking about with kids endocrine systems.

They're more facebook and whatsapp people themselves, what with being busy parents (whereas I'm terminally online because of my job)

larklane17 · 05/02/2025 18:01

Mr. Lark: What do you want for tea? (Us being Up North an' all)
Me: Anything but Pebbles.
Mr. Lark: <ponders confusedly> I can do egg, chips, and beans?

Boiledbeetle · 05/02/2025 18:21

XXylophonic · 05/02/2025 14:05

Cats and dragons of any sort are most welcome.
But...you clearly can't be any kind of beetle I want if you can't swim and need a lifejacket!?
You'll be telling me next that you don't know how to fly

Sorry, but no I'm a none swimming beetle. And I probably could fly, if I wanted to, but have not yet felt the urge. I occasionally think of going to the roof and taking flight but what if the wings don't work???? I'm very risk adverse!

TWETMIRF · 05/02/2025 18:25

If you say you can fly then you can fly. Don't let bigoted reality get in the way

Boiledbeetle · 05/02/2025 18:25

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2025 16:18

You can have a dragon in your garage if you just believe you can.

https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/TheDragonninMyyGarage

(It occurs to me that some of the contributors to 'rational wiki' might do well to refresh themselves on unfalsifiable beliefs.)

I'd have to believe I had a garage first!

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2025 18:28

I'm sure your dragon would be happy anywhere in the house - invisible undetectable dragons are obviously perfectly housetrained and nondestructive.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 05/02/2025 18:31

Reddit is the place you're looking for.

CandyLeBonBon · 05/02/2025 18:39

Pondering on the topic of dinosaurs, I'm just going to put this out there: whoever thought of the name "Gigantosaurus" (and argentinasaurus for that matter) needs to have a proper word with themselves.

Honestly, couldn't they even TRY to be a little creative. A five year old has more imagination!

DeanElderberry · 05/02/2025 18:42

Don't cry for me argentinasaurus doesn't even scan well.

They used what we call the Australian naming system e.g. we've found the great big area of sand what should we call it? Mm, how about the great sandy desert?

This feels like the spider equivalent of that quote from a victorian (or whatever) book that says women can be fascinated by a lump of cheese.

DeanElderberry · 05/02/2025 19:03

You may fascinate a woman by giving her a piece of cheese

Older than Victorian

Eternally true

Just dropping in to add that I got DH a Cretaceous period dinosaurs chocolate advent calendar from M&S. He was very pleased to note that a number of the featured dinosaurs were in Jurassic Park. Not to say that he bears a grudge but he is still annoyed that some of the dinosaurs featured weren’t Jurassic at all.

lcakethereforeIam · 05/02/2025 20:02

I know! Don't get my eldest started on 'shrink wrapping'.
