rexrabbit · 04/02/2025 21:04

would you say mumsnet these days is a safe space for a non-transphobic lesbian with children to hang out?

But...you clearly can't be any kind of beetle I want if you can't swim and need a lifejacket!?
You'll be telling me next that you don't know how to fly

@XXylophonic - of course BoiledBeetle can fly, she hitches a lift with her friendly neighbourhood dragon.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/02/2025 14:46

When I was at primary school, a girl told me that I was a dragon because I had got brown eyes. At the time, I was really upset by this, but now I shall wear it as a badge of honour.

If I can’t have a MN-issued dragon, then at least I can be one.

To be honest, even if MNHQ were issuing dragons, I probably shouldn’t get one, because dh has a horrible tendency to veto dangerous pets. I really want a tiger cub, and I am sure that, if I had it from tiny, I could raise it not to eat the neighbours, but dh is sceptical. I think the same would apply to a dragon, but I don’t think he would agree. And I’ve checked, and PetPlan doesn’t have a pet dragon category, so pet health insurance would be problematic.

Igmum · 05/02/2025 15:06

SDTG you need to LTB.

ColourBlueColourPurple · 05/02/2025 15:20

Why would being non transphobic mean it's not 'safe' for you? Who here is transphobic? A phobia is a fear of something, who here is scared of trans people?

Spare a thought for those of us who have never and would never eat a chicken. Where do we fit in?

You get to eat Massive Salads, obviously!

Wow this is so toxic.

Why? Surely encouraging people to try to strengthen their own mental resilience and feelings of self-worth is a worthwhile aim.

I have so many questions ...

Gender identity doesn't affect anyone except those who believe in it.

Changing society and the law based on gender identity affects every single one of us.

It condones the sexist belief that men and women's minds are just different as a fundamental state not a result of living in a sexist society.

It imposes on every single woman (or man) a redefinition of her- or his- self as someone with a certain type of mind rather than someone with a certain type of body.

It destroys the protections and opportunities created to support female people dealing with living in a sexist and
sometimes outright misogynist society.

It invalidates women speaking about and politicising their experience of being female.

It encourages people to believe they need to adjust their body to match a feeling in their head and then gives them harmful medical treatments in an impossible attempt to do so.

It allows dangerous men access to places women are vulnerable.

It allows sexist and arrogant men to not just speak over women, but to take our place and speak as us.

It requires women who do not see themselves as people of wommamy mind but simply as people of female body to accept intimate care and sharing vulnerable spaces with male people even though they have neither body nor gender in common simply because the man's assertion that he is like her is given credence over her assertion that he is not.

Oh hang on though, there is someone who isn't affected. Male heirs to primogenic estates or titles don't lose out because they specifically remain the real male heir regardless of whether they or their siblings change gender. So that's nice for them.

A really splendid post. 👏

But it isn't.a sincere question, is it? You know perfectly well what the definition is.

Which definition? Stonewall's old one or the newly-minted one they've just published? Since we can't post images at the moment, you'll find a highlighted comparison of the old and new definitions in this link: https://sex-matters.org/posts/updates/stonewall-changes-transphobia-definition/#:~:text=NEW,are%20perceived%20to%20be%2C%20trans.

Not believing in sexist claptrap gets women called mental, sickening, disgusting and toxic.

Remind me again who's unsafe under identity ideology?

I'd say the people being threatened with rape and decapitation, amongst other delightful scenarios being fantasised about.

Diplodocus, is it:

Dip low dough cuss

Or

Dee plod ick uss

???

lcakethereforeIam · 05/02/2025 15:56

That's what I was taught but I'm always hearing it pronounced the dip low way and TBH I think it sounds better 🫣😂

Hmmm, an interesting challenge!

I have toiled through the night to produce a most stunning Braille representation of fish now water Dragon, of the flame shooting variety, group of Jesus's image.

I'll just upload it for you to see.

<very over egged faux shock>

Oh no!

<wide eyed innocence>

the image facility is still not working!

Damn.

I'll put a copy in the post for the Jesus's.

Kisses .😘

Thank you, Boiled. The Jesuits and I are delighted with your response and send hugs and kisses - some of them are rather damp so have a towel ready.

'Some species of Pholcidae exhibit a threat response when disturbed by a touch to the web or entangled large prey. The arachnid responds by vibrating rapidly in a gyrating motion in its web, which may sometimes fall into a circular rhythm. It may oscillate in tune with the elasticity of the web causing an oscillation larger than the motion of the spider's legs. While other species of spider exhibit this behaviour, such behavior by the Pholcidae species has led to these spiders sometimes being called "vibrating spiders". '

It's off of Wikipedia, so it might be pedipalps. But I do like the idea of vibrating spiders.

I have spiders in my bathroom that do this . I call them Spinning Jennies.

on this forum, not real life. in real life all the people I know look down on mumsnet and boycott it for this reason in the same way they avoid x and truthsocial

So they're now in their own little echo chamber on Bluesky then, frantically virtue-signalling to each other, safe from any challenge to their ideology. 😂

Always pronounced it this way.

You can have a dragon in your garage if you just believe you can.

After the male of the European nursery-web spider has located a suitable mate, he captures a fly, wraps it in silk, and presents it to the female; while the female is occupied with eating the fly, the male mates with her. If no fly is available, the male may wrap a pebble.’

well, that’s a better scenario than the praying mantis, where it is quite usual for the female to eat the male during mating. She starts at the head and works downwards, so thé thé back end continues to fulfill its function until consumed with passion.

Although sometimes….🤔

Apparently, that notorious unladylike behaviour may be due to the stress of captivity and may not be so common in the wild.

I'm new here to MN and GC in general and this has to be one of the best threads ever!
I visited many moons ago and thought MN was all about nappies and crappy husbands so I didn't stick around.
I recently discovered FWR and I've been reading and learning and then reading some more.
I'm thrilled to have potentially made a new beetle friend and I've discovered many interesting and useless facts about spiders today.
It's been a real tonic and I'm delighted to be here.
P.s. I've no idea why people keep insisting you're all mean and nasty on this board The nappy women were much scarier
