How many MNers will join me in applying for a GRC??

QueenDoria · 29/12/2024 23:40

having read on another thread that it only costs £5 to apply for a GRC, how many MNers will join me in applying to ‘become’ a man?
one’s legal status as a mother will not change, and I’m sure we’ll all see a 20% uplift in our wages…
We might get turned down if the panel gets an inkling we might be insincere, but, for the sake of a fiver, we could swamp the application process…

Changing nationality costs a small bloody fortune. A fiver is a total bargain.

Only if you pay, you can always identify as whichever nationality you prefer. Hell, change weekly if you want.

To get a Gender Recognition Certificate, you need to provide a medical report written by a doctor or psychologist specialising in gender dysphoria.

I've just checked and one of my degrees qualifies me to be a psychologist.

Wondering now if this is a cheeky way to get my grc? I too have dual nationality. Itll be easier (I think) to become a man in one country than the other. Soooo I go become a man in other country (handily I'm visiting soon) then defacto get a grc here?

Me too actually.

I think I can change my gender once a year in my dual nationality country. It is recognised here in the UK. I can change it again in 12 months.

Countries and territories that have this kind of crazy legislation, they're heading for a whole world of pain in a few years, surely they must realise this? Give people the opportunity to take the piss (and worse), and they'll take it.

As we say around these here parts, "Hell slap it up them!". These daft politicians made naive laws that failed to take reality, the needs of a properly functioning state bureaucracy, and human nature into account. Student politics on a national level 🙄

Fantastic. You are about to be ever so popular.

It's very sad for all the lovely soon to be officially men, that I now live in France so probably can't register with the BPS any more.

Sorry chaps, my bad.

I’m disappointed to see that my dual nationality doesn’t help as my country isn’t on the accepted list.

Interesting that all Ava’s discussion points are pointing out that there are still, in part thanks to many of the women on this board, checks and balances in the UK that will actually have some deterrent effect on the less determined men from getting a GRC.

Sadly, as others point out, having one has become more or less irrelevant, due to the ease of getting other documents with falsified sex and the incredibly ill thought out rule that says you can’t even ask whether someone has a GRC, thus making it impossible to tell who has one and who doesn’t.

But it’s good Ava doesn’t support the dual transactivist demands for self-ID along with the removal of the spousal exit clause. Ava’s at least three quarters terven, by my calculations.

It's like three posts on mumsnet and you go from 'terfy bigots go home' to 'well you see, not everybody who says they are trans, is actually trans'.

ApocalipstickNow · 02/01/2025 08:45

Well, that’s Radicalisation Portals for you.

god i wish I'd thought of that (although i didn't have to pay that much, it was an expense i didn't want)

CarefulN0w · 02/01/2025 09:07

There was a Times article yesterday about police officers being issued with multiple warrant cards so that they can one in each gender. Some allow more than two for people who are NB.

So I really don't see why it wouldn't be possible to have multiple birth certificates, passports, driving licenses etc, depending on how you identify minute to minute.

AngelAva · 01/01/2025 11:04

Good grief it's like conversing with a five year old.

The whole basis of mansplaining is being a man when explaining something to a woman. You haven't got your GRC yet so unfortunately you're still a very misguided woman

Lots of entertaining contributions on this thread, but this post made me properly lol. 🏅

that post is the most meta post there’s ever been on Mumsnet.

It really is! 😅

Is Ava saying trans people are only valid if they've got a GRC and are otherwise just misguided?

There is no rule that you can't ask someone if they have a GRC.

I did ask in detail for Ava to clarify who exactly was 'trans' and who wasn't in the scenarios of approving/not approving but weirdly have been completely ignored.

MaxCrispFunction · 02/01/2025 10:47

Changing a birth certificate when nothing has or can change is the greatest lie ever told and makes a mockery of the importance of such certificates.
Praying 2025 is the year people piece this nonsense together and kick it to the kerb.

I've not followed this thread, I'm sorry now it looks like it's been hilarious a ride.

I hope the people the thread was apparently reported to, to be warned of a sudden influx of dysphoric middle aged women men people, actually give it a read. Perhaps it'll make them think.

Do… people… listen…to…middle aged… women?

Or do they hound them out of their jobs for being heretics?

How's can someone unilaterally change the basis of a years old marriage certificate in the basis of the GRC, but if I want to change my name by deed poll I have to get the permission of my spouse, because it's a material change to the contract we entered into upon marriage?!?!

Beowulfa · 02/01/2025 12:46

Would an Italian-British male named Andrea have to change his name for a GRC, or would it automatically be considered sufficiently "girly" for English language paperwork?

Also wondering about the many Russian diminuitives for boys' names like Mitya (Dmitri), Sasha (Alexander) and Misha (Mikhail), which instinctively sound feminine in English.

I sometimes ride a mare who's totally shameless when in season. Would renaming her Brian help? Vets just recommend expensive stuff like hormone treatment.

oh Doria, Doria, Doria.

That isn't very manly of you.
First you forgot "man here"

and then, you have to make statements of fact, in a manly way (even if they're wrong). With capitals and ! for emphasis of how correct you are 😜
