What is going on here.
Why are they so determined to support LGBTYS and trans young people - who is driving this?

I don't really know why it's so difficult for you to grasp the manifold reasons why trans identity might not be accurately recorded. Here's a few:

  1. Why would a coroner necessarily know the trans identity of a murdered person?
  1. If a police force has a table recording numbers of murders and they only have 2 columns, M, & F...where would a trans person sit in this table?
  1. Next of kin is very influential in the process; if they do not recognise trans status of their family member they are hardly going to advocate for records to reflect this. Think of many FWR posters...if they had a child who identified as trans and were in the unimaginable situation of losing their child do you really think they would be pushing for a coroner to record this and report this upwards for collation in further statistics? Of course they wouldn't, plenty FWR posters say there is no such thing as a trans person.

I think the chances of the police in charge of a murder investigation not knowing that the murder victim was trans are basically zero.

They record crimes committed by trans people according to the perpetrator's gender identity.

They record non fatal crimes committed by against trans people according to the victim's gender identity.

They record non crimes committed against trans people according to the victim's gender identity.

Why would they have a different rule specifically for murders and suicides?

That's included under the trans umbrella, isn't it?

Yes. As per Stonewall.

But for some reason nobody seems to be able to tell me what the difference is.

  • update - Actually, it seems that last year Stonewall literally erased 'cross dressers' from their website! I wonder why.

You'd have to take that up with the Office for National Statistics who have identified that situation.

"The Office for National Statistics (ONS) confirmed to FactCheck that “it is not possible to identify transgender victims in current homicide statistics” and “the sex of a homicide victim is determined by the police force that records the crime”.

@suggestionsplease1 is relying on a six year old ‘fact check’ article by Channel 4

Who have I invented?

Imagined trans murder victims.

And I'm still waiting for you, or anyone else, to provide evidence to the contrary for the present situation.

Absolutely nothing about this article suggests that there is an epidemic of murders of trans people which is going unreported.

If anything, the takeaway point is that it's probably not worth the police adding an extra column to their reporting system in order to record both the sex and gender identity of victims and thereby capture data on a crime which, to the best of our knowledge, occurs less than once per year.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/01/2025 19:26

As pp said, Tiffany Scott/Andrew Scott/Obi Wan Kenobi/Mighty Almighty was the one and only Scottish name on the list, which as I said is compiled by trans rights activists based on media reports and personal reports from the friends/family of the deceased. It's not based on ONS or police figures.

There is no reason to believe Scott was murdered. He was an extremely violent, unhinged man who tried to force female prison officers to intimately search him.

It’s an international day.

Or do you object to them flying the Ukrainian flag as well on the basis Putin hasn’t invaded Scotland?!

Yeah, perfect, you have certainly identified one way of ensuring we don't know the full information. Perhaps it was people who shared similar viewpoints to yourself who collated information previously.🙄

43,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in action in the last 3 years.

Oh, I'm all in favour of adding that extra column to the spreadsheet. I'm pretty sure it'll prove that the unofficial statistics are spot on.

Look at coroners reports for full information, and trial records including investigation into the possibility of transgender being an aggravating factor.

Or are you saying there are numerous trans people being murdered for being trans that absolutely no one knew were trans, including the murderer?

I object to a council flying the flag of any country other than the Union or the Saltire, yes. They should not be politically partisan.

meloncotton · 04/01/2025 19:35

ElleWoods15 · 04/01/2025 17:34

I’m not sure what stats you’ve got that can reliably be interpreted though, when in the U.K. it’s up to individual police forces how they record violence against trans people?

If there are no reliable stats why is there a trans remembrance day?

It's clear this is a memorial for a large number of hypothetical proto-trans people across the world, not necessarily in Scotland, who may have been contemplating a gender change at or some time before the time of their demise.

Gotcha.

And not Tiffany Scott. Probably.
