He says "genders" but that has to mean "sex". Day one executive orders, apparently:

Good!

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out.

teawamutu · 20/01/2025 08:29

Wow. Wonder what this might mean for the UK and Canada? Priced into continuation of the 'special relationship'?

TheCourseOfTheRiverChanged · 20/01/2025 11:37

Wow, indeed.

Snowypeaks · 20/01/2025 11:38

There will be legal action after legal action which the genderists will lose. And while arguing their case, light will be shone. Operation Let Them Speak is just getting going in the US.

EasternStandard · 20/01/2025 11:39

Incredible

The house of cards collapses

In the US at least

I hadn't even considered that but it's possible. There's not really money involved so maybe not?
Might be big for the UN, which the USA bankrolls.
Sall Grover (Giggle Vs Tickle) reckons it will influence Australian politics, but I'm not sure much will happen there unless/until the SDA is amended.

Interesting feature in the Daily Telegraph by Oliver Brown, chief sports writer and big supporter of women's sports as Mumsnet will probably know.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/2025/01/19/donald-trump-protecting-women-sport-party-political-issue/

It confirms how big a deal this was in US voting - in contrast to the UK.

The title of the order alone says everythung has changed:

"Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.”

Defending women.
Restoring biological truth.

Alleluia.

TheCourseOfTheRiverChanged · 20/01/2025 12:30

"The order ends with a sweeping statement about the fundamental issue the White House believes is at stake in this order: ”Men and women are equal but have obvious sexual differences,” it reads. “If federal policies promote such an obvious falsehood that men can become women, the government will forfeit all credibility. The government must maintain a commitment to recognizing biological reality to maintain the trust of the American people.”"
(Emphasis mine)

I really really can't argue with that.

Scary as it may be to say that.

HarpyOfACertainAge · 20/01/2025 12:53

It's crazy that the Republican Party is now positioning itself as the party to defend women's rights. But here we are.

I'm sure the fervent Democrats will dismiss this as conservative, anti-progressive policies, and will lump it in with policies such as restricting reproductive rights, but as pp said, the more sunlight this gets the better. The Democratic Party can only burrow their heads in the sand for so long. If they want a chance at getting re-elected, they will need to listen to the public on this.

EasternStandard · 20/01/2025 13:01

This is a big deal, after all the threads on here

It’s such a huge turnaround I’m wondering if the lack of reaction is down to time taken to filter in

It’s the end of state legislated gender ideology in the US

I find TRAs and their supporters often take a little while to properly get going. They need to get their lines clear and work themselves up to fever pitch in their own echo chambers first.

Quite so.
It's another version of "If you say something as obviously untrue as men can become women, I won't believe a single word you say about anything else."

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 20/01/2025 14:29

Not just the TRAs with a lack of reaction. Think regular posters will get my drift.

So, no more circumcisions?

In what way does a circumcision affirm anyone's gender. Be serious 🤣

Britinme · 20/01/2025 14:46

Obviously circumcision doesn't affirm anybody's gender, but some people think of it as sexual mutilation whether carried out on a boy or a girl.

Does the US have an equivalent to our GRA? If not, does this executive order mean that all trans people in the States will now have to revert to their biological sex on all identity documents, including those who have had full SRS?

ClosetBasketCase · 20/01/2025 16:09

As much as I despise Trump and the very ground he walks on - I do agree with both of these items. FGM is abhorrant and should have been outlawed world wide along time ago- tradition and religion be damned. And also, as much as I hate to say it - I also partially agree with the other. I'm very much of the "you do you, boo" faction: however, I also firmly believe that if you have a penis, still urinate out of your penis, or have any use of it at all, in any sense, that you do not belong in a womens space!

VonHally · 20/01/2025 16:42

I really hope this happens in a timely manner at least.

I was just musing to myself and wondered in relation to other countries with active GR certificate legislation and/or self identity, what might happen to those who visit the US and it is obvious that they are a man (it's obvious that they ALL are but YKWIM) but the passport says female.

Maybe nothing.

duc748 · 20/01/2025 16:46

Must be a lot of Americans out there with 'X' on their passports; will they all need new ones?

(tbc, I wouldn't be opposed to that. Passports (in all countries) should give basic identification data, of which birth name, DOB, and sex are the most obvious)

nauticant · 20/01/2025 17:02

Trump's just been sworn in.

So, let's see those Executive Orders.
