What is Android really up to? She looks so interested and engaged at the Bluestocking, and is clearly very intelligent, but what's going on when she hides away in her cavernous laboratory spare room?

Mwahahaha

I'm with Inky. I've never heard a song that started "Magpie singing in the dead of night".

We sang that song in the choir I used to be in - and I did the whistling bits because there was no-one else in the choir willing to whistle in public. A modest claim to fame, but mine own.

Dh showed me up at the cinema last night. We had booked seats G2 and G3 - someone had already booked the aisle seat, and she was sitting in it when we arrived, so dh told her she was in his seat - G2 - I had to point out that the numbers started at G1! I think he was having a bit of a brain fart. She saw the funny side.

It was lovely watching The Nutcracker on the big screen. I had said that, for my 60th, I wanted to go and see it live, at Covent Garden, but my mobility is such an issue at the moment, we decided I wouldn't be able to manage it, so this was the compromise.

And I have given Parsley to dh - I did it when he was having his wobble, and I felt he needed some immediate cheering-up. He loves him, and has asked me to wrap him, so he can unwrap him again on Christmas day!

You know the term 'goldfishing', in a choral context, i.e. when some poor unfortunate is deemed to have such an awful voice that they are told to open and close their mouth but not to make a sound - well I think the bottom-left choir have taken that a step forward and stuck a whole goldfish bowl over Android's head to hide what must be a dreadful singing voice!

When I see Android singing, I hear the opening notes of Laurie Anderson's 'O Superman'...
Hey maybe that's what happened with the bottom-left choir

'And now we'll sing Adeste Fidelis'...
'Ah ah ah ah - O superman, o judge, o mom and dad'
'No, Android, no! how many times have we told you.... oh FFS somebody put a goldfish bowl over her head!'

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/12/2024 11:29

When he was at school, @MarieDeGournay, he was the only person asked to leave a whole-house choir (for the inter house choir competition). The music teacher worked out who was making the awful noise, and dh was invited to leave! I don't think he had a goldfish bowl to hand. 😂

He actually doesn't have a bad voice, but he has no confidence in his singing at all.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/12/2024 11:40

DH was told to 'goldfish' at school. He's actually got a very nice voice, but had the misfortune to attend a cathedral school. Even before it broke apparently it was deeper and my guess is with more natural timbre and volume than they wanted amidst the chorister trebles.
School gave an excellent musical education to the choristers and sod all to the rest.

FuzzyPuffling · 18/12/2024 11:57

I've just been booked to sing at a funeral next week. No idea whose ( booked by the organist)
Ah, my musical career is now based on dead people!

MarieDeGournay · 18/12/2024 12:31

Woley and Errol - suspiciously similar stories about your DH's choral experiences... you aren't by any chance married to the same...? no, no that couldn't be the case😄

Fuzzy - 'not filmed before a live audience'Smile but it's a lovely task, a great comfort to the mourners to hear a favourite hymn or song. And you must have a lovely singing voice, I assume nobody has ever asked you to stand up in the organ loft and 'gold-fish'!

FuzzyPuffling · 18/12/2024 12:44

Thank you Marie. Never been asked to goldfish (yet). 🐠

You do all realise I'm just going to " love" you all now? Not in a stalkerish way, of course.

DeanElderberry · 18/12/2024 14:37

And you can only do one at a time. If you could do multiples it might be possible to send a more subtle message.

I'm going to assume that's funny haha 🤔

No. For your eyes only.

MyrtleSingingCarols · 18/12/2024 15:45

Definitely loving the new reactions. It's been difficult clicking thanks for some posts where an OP has been having a tough time and I just want to say I see you. The new reactions are great and have embraced the Bluestocking ethos!

AsWithGlad · 18/12/2024 15:47

There are threads about it here and here.

Like someone else on one of the threads I couldn’t work out which was thanks and which was agree, but it tells you after you’ve clicked on it, and you can change your mind.

Sadly AI let in some men, but everyone is having a jolly time.

I am using love = I support you rather than I love the horrid situation you are in, yes I’m a meanie, but that might be wrong.

What do you use for “You are having a tough time and I see you?”
