Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

The “women’s march” that’s all about the men.

BackToLurk · 11/12/2024 13:24

I couldn’t see a thread about this, but I’m just here to share how annoying it is to see a so-called women’s march so concerned with placating men. This is the march in January.

As well as the highly predictable “this is for all women” (meaning including the ones who are men) and the ‘we don’t tolerate transphobia’ (meaning any concept of sex-based oppression), the Facebook group is full of posts reassuring men that of course they’re welcome and it’s not all men and obviously “not my Nigel”. It’s infuriating. Why do people do this?

I can answer that question. Because the parameters of this march are that it welcomes trans people, and will not be a hostile space for them. If you want to march for your gender critical ideals, then that’s something different - organise something separately.

Legally they can't prevent women with gender critical views from attending. Secondly, I, along with others, wanted this to be inclusive but if you want to think otherwise you can. Not losing sleep over you dear.
The organisers of this march, one again has just stepped down, are very judgemental and hostile towards women with certain views. They were even threatening violence against them. Ignorance at its finest.

NecessaryScene · 05/01/2025 16:50

If people don’t like that approach, they are free to join another group/set up a different march where the parameters exclude trans people and their allies.

I haven't seen anyone saying "trans people and their allies" should be excluded. Did I miss something? The march can welcome "transwomen" as much as any other men.

Just thinking that they shouldn't prioritised over women doesn't seem like a huge ask. The fact that it is just demonstrates how little women are respected.

Women are being excluded for being "hostile" to transwomen - ie insisting on prioritising women.

Exactly. Women even being segregated now if they have experienced trauma and don't feel comfortable around men.

Well I know Edinburgh won't be decided until a couple of days beforehand as that is when the committee is meeting with my objection.
I am still on read by the lead organiser! Surely I deserve some feedback!
I can imagine the biology remarks and their definition of sexism is maybe related to me saying that biology does matter along with it being the cause of sexism.

I certainly won’t be going to any marches in Scotland ot elsewhere that aren’t organized by genuine women’s groups like WRN, LWS, FWS, GTF or WWW.

Yes, I have started looking at the different marches / organisations too. Ones that actually focus on women and don't try to sell their rights to the patriarchy.

Exactly 💯. I never saw anyone once being hostile towards trans women.

The poster appears to think most women are "GC" because they certainly don't agree with her that any male who fancies it should be able to use female only spaces. Her fringe view is not shared by the majority of the population whether she acknowledges it or not. So most of the women who've joined the group for a "women's march" in good faith are likely to not be trans rights activists.

Is there a reason you call people dear? It’s a really weird way of trying to patronise - like an older chap at work who still talks down to women. Very odd and actually pretty ignorant in itself.

You’re absolutely right they can’t legally stop you marching (assuming you’re not doing something that would justify getting police involved). But they don’t have to include you in their Facebook group!

I think that's more likely to be the trans rights activists, given that they are the only ones who have threatened violence, to "terfs".

Sorry dear. Says a lot if that's the only thing you can come back with. Yeah they can keep me from the Facebook group but just contradicts what they have been saying to me behind the scenes about those they have blocked. Again, just showing your ignorance as you don't know much about what has been actually happening.

Discrimination on the grounds of belief is discrimination like any other.

Imho all these so called women’s marches are a waste of energy & time, especially if they include men, so I’ll be giving them
all a pass. Better to have protests like those being planned outside prisons and vigils like those organized by WRN to raise awareness of the women in Afghanistan

I’m not sure you’ve made clear how talking about women’s bodies or the reasons why some women need single sex spaces makes the march hostile to trans women. Maybe I missed your explanation

The only reason it bothers me is because it makes soi-disant feminists look ridiculous. But there we go, if they want to march about American politics and the right to use crap bondage Canva graphics, hell mend them.

Yeah the WRN seem to actually know how to organise an event

Hmph. Funnily enough, it was the so-called 'Pussy Marches' that started my peaking journey. I went on the London Jan 2017 Pussy March/March for Women, I knitted myself a pink pussyhat, I enjoyed the sisterhood and outpouring of anger at the Trump situation in particular, and VAW in general.

A few days afterwards, I started coming across posts on social media about how all these 'marches for women' were alienating and excluding TW and what about the menz, and so on. It hadn't, prior to that, dawned on me that men might in some perverse way be jealous of the objectification of women, or of the aggressions we face because of our biological sex. Or that men might identify into a sex class in order to enjoy the oppression.

Anyway, there we are. Grin

Yes, amazing how triggering a women's march is for men isn't it? 😂

ArabellaScott · 06/01/2025 07:38

Yes, Glom. Monroe Bergdorf whanging on about how pussy hats were excluding him because some women have cocks is what brought me here.

Yes, it was a real an eye opener, especially with TRAs like Paris Lees simultaneously claiming that being treated like a piece of meat is hot.

I personally don't believe for a second that those who want to include men with these attitudes in a march about male violence against women aren't doing it completely deliberately.

When I saw what Bergdorf was up to for the first time, it really did put things into perspective.
