Could we ban "transvestigating" threads on here?

This one for example. Transvestigating is an informal term given to when people play detective and try to determine if a given person (usually a woman) is transgender or not from how they look e.g. photos.

I've seen it more than a few times on Twitter anytime a woman who is tall or muscular or "masculine looking" appears. Quite often, women are wrongly mistaken for being trans.

As well as being transphobic, IMO this harms all women and reinforces stereotypes of what men/women should look like. And the idea of obsessing over people's appearances like this just doesn't sit well with me.

I really resent genderism for making me question the sex of people I see in the media.

Absolutely this. The FT had an article at the weekend "The FT's 25 most influential women of 2024". Immediately I'm thinking which one is the bloke. Surprisingly, I don't think any are (although I haven't read it all yet). But what a pity I can't just read an article celebrating the achievements of my own sex without questioning whether they really are all women. Yes, it is genderism's fault that this is even a question.

The most influential woman of the year is a man. Of course, makes so much sense! This is why I feel we need to reclaim accurate language, because language matters.

Who are you talking about?

Rhaidimiddim · 09/12/2024 12:32

How about banning men from pretending they're women?

Then we wouldn't have to wonder (as long as the men adhered to the ban, but what are the chances of that happening?)

Circumferences · 09/12/2024 12:34

How about TWAW gets in the bin and everyone can just be nice?

Taking this post down so as not to confuse with another poster of a similar name

I have met trans people in real life. Including 2 men who clearly had huge psychological issues and exploded into verbal violence when asked perfectly reasonable questions. They were clients of mine. It was clear from the outset that they were very disturbed people. Would I want to be in a single sex space with either? Hell no! I would not want them anywhere near any vulnerable person. I'm privy to lots of information about them both, but won't say more as clearly that information is privileged.
Many here will have met trans people, and have formed their opinion based on that meeting.
Edited for spelling.

The FT is more grounded in reality than most of the media.

Yes they are. I appreciate how they allow their journalists to write with greater clarity than other newspapers.

But they do use incorrect pronouns. In the same issue this weekend, the article on darts refers to Noa-Lynn van Leuven as "her". Having said that, I'm glad they included this brief paragraph on N-LvL and the fact that N-LvL's right to play in the Women's Series has been questioned.

It is sometimes possible to control what women say and write, to an extent. The Taliban are making strenuous efforts, you could ask them for tips maybe?

But it is, and always will be, much, much harder to control what we think. Sorry about that.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/12/2024 11:08

Remember when women went over to Reddit and enforced their rules and views to destroy other groups' spaces and ability to discuss things of importance to them?

Remember when there was a gender critical subreddit? It got banned due to mass reporting by trans rights activists, despite ones linking to pictures of dead women men found sexually attractive, among other awful things, being fine to exist there.

Do you know, it rings a bell...

TrainedByKittens · 09/12/2024 14:45

I would hazard a guess that the vast majority of you have never met a trans person in your life and the actually have on impact at all on your day to day life.

Initially I thought I was just really unlucky that every male identifying as a woman I met both in person and online was misogynistic and creepy, I was trying to #bekind initially. Eventually as I met more and more I realised that the only exception I’d come across that wasn’t a negative impact (and I’d only come across them online) was Fionne Orlander.

Probably unsurprisingly, the Taliban are oppressive and dangerous towards people with trans identities. Many have fled, including to Pakistan, where they hope to be recognised as a 'third gender'.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/transgender-afghan-refugees-escape-taliban-find-worse-situation-in-pakistan/

‘People with trans identities’ ‘recognised as a third gender’ - funny that they are not insisting on being treated like women in either country 🤔

Can we ban mansplaining posters.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 09/12/2024 15:20

Another made up word.

TWETMIRF · 09/12/2024 15:35

We'll stop fighting for women's rights when men stop trying to take them away. Transplaining why the women with penises are better women and more deserving of respect than the ones without is a great place to start.

saudi women no GIF by Telfaz11

‘ But what would the Taliban make of men who claimed to be women?‘

Well, nothing, presumably. Because they would be completely shrouded from head to foot, so no one could see them anyway.

Not much fun, though, a female ‘identity’ under those conditions

women’s voices are not allowed to be heard either.

EdithStourton · 09/12/2024 16:27

I thought the whole point of this board was that women could come here to discuss ALL sex and gender issues. And part of that is working out if someone with XY chromosomes is claiming to be a woman.

With all respect, OP, if you don't like it, you don't have to come here.

Please. It harms all women, locks people into incredibly harmful spirals of paranoia and has a generally negative effect on everyone it touches.

Trans women exist. Some of them are invisible. You cannot always tell. Systematically tearing other women apart to 'prove' a worldview that revolves around reciting a phrase built upon smug self-satisfaction is deeply toxic behaviour. It's time to find a healthy way of moving on and coming to terms with the existence of inconvenient people.

Trans women are not "inconvenient people". Trans women are men who wish to appropriate womanhood to actualise something about their inner self they believe is incompatible with manhood.

Woman (original female meaning) have a right to say no and to defend themselves against the forced redefinion of their lives, experiences and identities, and the negation and silencing of what they know to be true.

Trans women claiming womanhood is regressive, Patriarchal and reductive to women. Trans women claiming manhood, saying to the Patriarchy "I am also a man every bit as much as you, deal.with it" would be progressive and expansive of manhood.

We women all know them, because every time we go about our business holding women's events generally there are 150 trans shouting as let us. I think we'd rather they all left us alone.
