Seems like cake may have cracked the art of prompt engineering for that particular AI!

I had a chinchilla when I was younger. My dad brought it home unexpectedly: I don’t remember if I had been asking for a pet but it was the only one I ever had. He said he’d rehomed it because it pulled out its fur so wasn’t any use for the purpose its previous owner had originally acquired it (don’t think about it.)

Mine definitely had a dust bath. If I remember correctly they nip.

Perhaps the Bluestocking can just have the sort that don’t?

What a life your little chinchilla lived! avoided a tragic fate by sabotaging its fur, was rescued by a Knight in Shining Armour, aka your dad, and was given a good home, complete with dust bath... I'm sure it has achieved legendary status amongst the chinchilla community, little chinchillas are promised a story about it as a reward for being good little chinchillas and having their dust bath..

Did it have a name? I mean a human name - of course it is known by its chinchilla name in the myths and legends of its own community.Smile

I've read they do nip, but only if they aren't handled right, and hey, don't we all, in our own way?Grin

Aren't we all?

The sad outcome of too many women of a certain age congregating in one pub...

ifIwerenotanandroid · 03/12/2024 17:35

I wasn't trying for that image. I did eleventythree images of us sitting outside watching the volcano & being too hot & every time we were from 100+ years ago. Adding 'modern' or '21st century' made no difference - although one pic came out with 1910's women on mobile phones! I give up. I'll just copy Cake's posts from now on.

AsWithGlad · 03/12/2024 17:36

@MarieDeGournay , I have always felt guilty about the chinchilla. When I wasn’t playing with it it had to live in the garage and ever since I thought it had a sad life.

You make me feel a whole lot better.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/12/2024 17:47

I've read they do nip, but only if they aren't handled right, and hey, don't we all, in our own way?

I'm evidently short of tea...for a WTF moment I read that as 'but only if they're right handed'

That reminded me of visiting a friend who was looking after a degu during the school hols. It had escaped but I managed to catch it, so of course it bit me. Fortunately I'd had a tetanus booster the day before. Anyway... take a look at this...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_degu

...I think they may be a bit less, er, drama Queen than the chinchillas. The only problem is they're very prone to diabetes so I'm not sure how we protect them from the tunnocks and cakes.

Ahem, I suggested degus threads ago - hence Welcome to the Degu Station.

I think I may have found a solution to that problem, though. How about we eat all the Tunnocks and cakes first, before they can get at them?

Admittedly we'll have to be fast to beat Boily.

Magpiecomplex · 03/12/2024 18:00

What? Volcano, you say? Sorry, was having too much fun...

Bluestocking: the one where Boiled gets to the bar first!
ErrolTheDragon · 03/12/2024 18:04

Sorry, of course you did Cher.

Boily and the other tunnocks-guzzlers can bask in the glow not just of Mount woo but also of knowing you're saving the degus from diabetes

Magpiecomplex · 03/12/2024 18:08

We may have an issue with Cher's cunning plan. Looks like the chinchillas got there first.

FuzzyPuffling · 03/12/2024 18:29

May I just say, I'm not a massive Tunnocks fan? I know, I know. I find them a bit dry. Caramel wafers are OK, but Lidl do a great dupe for half the price.

Got any Dime bars? ( I refuse to use "Daim")

Edited to say DH is Scottish, and he's not fussed either.

I will look after the degus and their diet - having had diabetes for almost two months now, I am clearly an expert. 😉😂

I did have a Plan this year - as soon as summer arrived, we were going to have weeks living mainly on salads - that’ll help the weight, I thought. But then we went straight from about the middle of Spring to mid Autumn, with no summer whatsoever, and it was too chilly most of the year for salads.

As a friend puts it "Men. Can't live with them, can't bash them over the head with a shovel and bury them in the garden".

Really? Shall I dig him back up then? He may still be breathing. Do I have to give him the £10 coupon back!

Maybe try soups instead of the salads - the sort with lots of veg, pulses and/or beans. I had some smoky, spicy veg and bean soup for lunch, just the job for a cool day.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/12/2024 19:30

You should have your spotty black and red togs on for sexton duties, beetle.

That is an excellent idea, @ErrolTheDragon - I have the Covent Garden soup recipe book somewhere - I will have to dig it out and look for inspiration. And if the soup is low/no carb, I could have bread and butter with it. I am missing bread. I know I can have it, but I’m choosing to have carbs with dinner, and that usually means spuds/rice/pasta.

MarieDeGournay · 03/12/2024 20:48

I thought we already had degus? although in fairness, they haven't been mentioned much - I though they were just shy and retiring. And I won't have them called 'common', as that nasty Wikipedia does.
For some reason this made me laugh - I can see it being used in any shopping situation:
'I'd like a soup tureen please'
'Certainly Modom. What size would Modom require?'
'Well... larger than a golden hamster but smaller than a fancy rat.'
'Certainly Modom, walk this way'
[yes I do my shopping in the 19th century and the shop assistant is Jeeves]

AsWithGlad - I reckon your chinchilla was probably humming the theme to The Great Escape in your garage and jumping up and down with happiness.Smile

The reason I asked what its name was is because there are now two ideas for Bluestocking children's books: there's 'Fuzzy: The Puffling Who Wouldn't Grow Up' [we already have some of the artwork..] and now there's 'Atahualpa, The Bravest Chinchilla' - Atahualpa is just a working title name😁

Whilst I'm in burial mode at the pub...

NEVER SHOULD YOU EVER

Lucy took the hammer from the shed
and bludgeoned poor Papa until was dead.
She beat him quite ferociously as she began to shout
"NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! SHOULD YOU DRINK MY BLOODY STOUT!"

Hmm, after all that digging I shall enjoy my half a stout. The gerbil put quite a head on it!

Did you leave any soil outside, Boily? Most of it seems to be liberally spread on you and the bar!

Busy day being lots of beetle types, I've literally been rolling in mud and crap all day!

Couldn't you just spit in your drink, like everyone else?Grin

Was that a Harry Graham poem? Not one I recognise but it would fit within his style.
