The quoted comments from the congresswoman are brilliant

First trans member lawmaker blasts GOP after bill blocks bathroom use

A trans war has broken out on Capitol Hill after a Republican lawmaker proposed a measure to block transgender women from using biological women's restrooms in the U.S. Capitol.

Your opinion on his gender doesn't define him or change what he is.

Anyone can have an 'opinion' on gender. But not on sex; it's a matter of fact.

I would strongly disagree. At worst, science is still debating and it's undecided, at best, sex is a spectrum.

Ah this one again

sex is a spectrum - drink

sex is binary - people are either male or female. Everyone knows which are the humans that give birth to the babies

RedToothBrush · 20/11/2024 20:45

Changing sex, obviously means that women who take cross sex hormones aren't having massive side effects in terms of what happens to their bones and they definitely aren't at risk of any other complications like vaginal atrophy either. Because they are definitely a man and thats the sex they should be and lots of penisy-type men have health problems with vaginal atrophy.

So unisex toilets are fine then?

Women can have single sex ones and people who don't agree with the sex they are born can bog off and use the 'gender neutral' ones instead then can't they?

Everyone is happy. Right? If only it was that simple.

Except of course they aren't be this isn't good enough and they HAVE to use the single sex one to affirm their gender and get one over by asseting their power about it.

Its a power trip. Its all a power trip.

Respect only goes one direction.

If sex is a spectrum, how come she knows she is a man and not a wibble?

It seems McBride says he will abide by the rule and stay out of women's spaces.

It’s almost as if telling men clearly no can be met with a shrug, move on and a focus on other things. Now it just needs to happen at every legislative and sporting level. If that happened this whole nonsense could be over in 6 months.

Exactly.

Agree to use services and spaces according to biological sex, stop telling children unscientific bullshit, and we can all go home.

If 'he' knows 'he' is not a woman, then what makes him 'trans'?

I must admit I use a shorthand to decipher the reference to woman or man when ‘trans’ is placed before it. I personally clock the ‘trans’ bit as ‘fake’ or ‘pretend’. I can then identify the correct sex of the person who is being referred to. Just my personal way of cutting through the meaningless and obfuscating language code.

Helleofabore · 20/11/2024 21:16

PinkChesnut · 20/11/2024 20:27

For clarity, he is AFAB.

No, he is not a woman, he is a trans man.

And he isn't trying to use women's toilets, he is not a woman. He uses the men's.

So a female without any treatment uses the male toilets without any issues?

Great news!!!

This needs to be spread far and wide so no male who declares they are unsafe in the male toilet has to worry. All male people are safe, even female people who has had no treatment is safe.

Thank you! I am sure many people will find this reassuring.

AlisonDonut · 20/11/2024 20:54

If sex is a spectrum, how come she knows she is a man and not a wibble?

Quite.

Whats a wibble AlisonDonut?

Can we define a wibble legally in a way thats useable on a practical level?

Just like legal definitions of what a woman is without completely imploding when it comes to the Equality Act and existing protected characteristics in law?

I mean if you are a wibble, then sex discrimination and protections based on sex don't apply anymore.

Equally if she's not a wibble and claims to be a man not a woman, what does this mean in practice? Well a pregnant man wouldn't be entitled to maternity benefits and protections as the law stands - theres been concerns about this which have been voiced by numerous rights lawyers about this if the definition of sex is altered.

She couldn't be the victim of homosexual discrimination if she's attracted to women rather than men. And she couldn't be the victim of sex discrimination.

These wouldn't be covered by discrimination on the basis of gender reassignment...

Equally if you replace sex in law with gender then ALL women lose various sex based rights and this is particularly true for lesbians who ALSO lose all homosexual based rights because being homosexual is no longer merely attraction to the same sex.

Its not for her to decide this legal implication on behalf of all women.

No. She is only tryng to score points and press.

She is anti-abortion, supports the SCOTUS overturning of abortion rights, and has voted against the women's Healthcare act of 2022 that would have ensured a woman's right to treatment if her pregnancy was endangering her life.

Mace's voting record reflects a disdain for the health and safety of women, especially around the issue of our pregnancy health care.

Good God, somehow that essay is even more dreadfully written than the usual TRA standby - that dismal Scientific American article. It's just a rehash of...other species can change sex, pink/blue brain bullshit and the deeply unpleasant co-opting of DSD's.

That's the best argument that can be mustered? Really?

Ooosh.

I love these kind of articles for the absolute lack of clear outline, arguments and conclusion.

So to argue there are no sexes, fish and lizards are brought into play. Well, we all know humans are not fish nor lizards, so that argument is nonsense.

If we could crawl into the womb with a fetus at about six to eight weeks of age, we’d see a few clusters of cells in the emerging body get nudges by DNA activity and start to generate new organs, including the clitoris and penis, labia and scrotum, ovaries and testes. All genitals are made from the exact same stuff.
Yes, everything is made from the same stuff in you break it down small enough, but womens don't pee out of their clitoris and ovaries don't contain the y chromosome, so try again.

In fact, of the 140 million babies born last year, at least 280,000000 did not fit into a clear penis versus labia model of sex determination. Genitals, hormone levels, and chromosomes are not reliable determinants of sexsex.
Redefining the word reliable here. 0.002% inaccuracy is really very very reliable.

Then he goes on to say brains aren't sexed (correct), but have male and female features. No idea what those are though, or how you can recognise them, so again, not an argument but an opinion with zero foundation.

Of course, there are clear bodily differences in capacities to give birth and lactate, and ranges of patterns in the development and distribution of body size, strength, and myriad other processes
So there are two sexes!

But such patterns are mostly overlapping, and only a few are distributed in clear or functional dichotomies.
The capacity to give birth is a very clear distinction and not overlapping at all. Did he mean to make our arguments for us?

Then he goes on to nature and nurture and arguing that both sexes can be masculine or feminine. Again, same argument you can read on FWR.

Summary: nowhere does he explain what makes sex non binary, he contradicts himself, make our arguments for us and descends in mixing up gender and sex.

Try harder

lcakethereforeIam · 20/11/2024 22:15

Brilliant 👏

I'd just add that even if humans could change sex (spoiler, we can't) there are still only two sexes. Clown fish and other species that can, go from male to female (or vice versa). There's no intermediate. There's no third, fourth or fifth sex. There's male or female. A binary, not a spectrum.

He knows he is not a woman. He was telling his parents at age 6, and is now in his late thirties.

I thought I was a cat when I was six. Doesn't make me anything other than human.

Reality is all the stuff that carries on happening and existing whether you believe in it or not. This person you know carries on being female, regardless of anyone's opinion on the subject.
