The quoted comments from the congresswoman are brilliant

First trans member lawmaker blasts GOP after bill blocks bathroom use

A trans war has broken out on Capitol Hill after a Republican lawmaker proposed a measure to block transgender women from using biological women's restrooms in the U.S. Capitol.

It's a trans war because Mace could not give a toss about women's rights, or she would not be a republican.

Nancy Mace is a rape survivor. She has every right in the world to women's safe spaces.

Then he goes on to say brains aren't sexed (correct), but have male and female features.

Brains DO have male and female features!! Male brains are structured to fit in a male shaped skull. And female brains are shaped to fit in a female shaped skull.

And female brains have more delicate brain fibres than male brains.

Do you think that is what the author referred to?

MarieDeGournay · 20/11/2024 22:31

Very well said, sanluca!

Sadly, I doubt if it will make even the tiniest impact on PinkChesnut who has already shown a disregard for facts, e.g. the law she claimed said something was shown not to say it, but she just sailed majestically on in the wrong, while magnanimously wishing us 'calm days ahead'

As Kucinghitam said on another thread recently: "You can't reason somebody out of a position they didn't reason themselves in to."

Yes, but those features of brains don't come in a "mosaic of male and female features". They are one or the other.

I would strongly disagree. At worst, science is still debating and it's undecided, at best, sex is a spectrum.

https://www.sapiens.org/biology/biological-science-rejects-the-sex-binary-and-thats-good-for-humanity/

Oh FFS not this again.

Some secondary sexual characteristics exist on a spectrum. Sex itself is a binary.

Slightly shy of 50% of the population generate sperm and come with built-in sperm injection equipment, known as penises. Around 50% of the population are born with ovaries full of unripe eggs that they release roughly monthly for several decades of their lives. The people with the eggs tend to have uteruses to gestate the eggs, should fertilisation occur. These two groups make up the unequivocally male and unequivocally female members of the human species respectively.

The tiny proportion of the population with neither eggs nor sperm aren't on a spectrum between the two. They are sterile and this is usually because developmentally something has gone amiss. "Amiss" is a reasonable description here: some of the ways in which sexual development goes amiss can be fatal because kidney function is also impaired.

The existence of a tiny proportion of people who are sterile does not negate the forced pregnancy risk that the sperm generators as a class pose to the egg releasers because a minority of the sperm generators choose to commit rape against the egg releasers. This forced pregnancy risk is what makes single-sex loos, dormitories, changing rooms, and bathing facilities necessary.

No amount of waffling and hand-waving and special feelings about oneself makes this reality go away. Again, reality is what persists when you stop believing in it. Rape-induced pregnancies are very much real.

They passed it.

Single sex spaces now protected on the basis of biological sex in the Capitol building.

One small step for woman. One giant leap for womankind.

RedToothBrush · 20/11/2024 22:49

Why do we all have to have a lobotomy because one person has decided they are all the rage and has got one for themselves?

JessaWoo · 21/11/2024 00:40

@RedToothBrush

So not only do Congress members have their own private facilities, but there is ALSO unisex facilities available.

The update now reads as if the intention of the bill is to seek to uphold single sex provision as single sex rather than be evil witches to transwomen. And the Democrats look even worse with this because they don't want to 'compromise' with the third space option as this isn't regarded as good enough.

If accurate it colours things slightly differently in terms of language being used and the context of the matter.

There isn't any proof that McBride intended to use the female facilities in exclusion of the other facilities.

The last few days have been orientation is Washington DC for new members of Congress, including McBride. Nancy Mace, being Nancy Mace, saw an opportunity and decided to go for the publicity. Given the response, she succeeded.

Yes, indeed - so many here appear to have had one.

To some, it matters. To others, it doesn't.

I know a trans guy who is not on hormones and has not has surgery. He is comfortable as he is and has been out for over a decade. In his own words, "nobody else decides what I am and nobody can take who I am away from me based on their own perceptions."

Not every trans person needs every single treatment in order to feel good in their skin.

And you are ok with your friend imposing their personal ideas about what type of thoughts make a person "a man" and what type of thought make a person "a woman" onto everyone else? You understand that when a trans person says they are "a man" or "a woman" because of some facet of their personality rather than the simple fact of their body and expects that others respect this self-declared identity not just politely but concretely, materially, in a way that directly affects others by allowing the trans person access to the resources and provisions of the sex they say they are, they do not just define themselves but also every other person who uses the words "man" or " woman" to name themselves?

You understand this and you are ok with this?

Wow.

I mean, I think the whole idea that if someone thinks a certain way they are "a man", and if they think a different way they are "a woman" is unbelievably sexist, but you do you I guess?

Not at all. It's their eagerness to believe and promote any shiny bigoted thing that is waved in their face, even if it doesn't really stand up to basic scrutiny.

Like the concept of being born in the wrong body? Or that humans can change sex? Or stopping puberty forever for children is healthy? Or that men are included in the definition of “woman”?

Could you be more specific?

How are you behaving any differently from any trans person?

You want to be in the position to tell everyone else what they are with zero push back, but refuse to acknowlege that you are not the sole arbiter of what makes a person male or female.

The science is not settled, and I personally am fine living without absolutes.

It isn't the single sex spaces themselves that are bigoted - in this case, it's Mace's actions that are.

What bigotry is Mace displaying by sponsoring a bill to ensure that single sex women's toilets in the Capitol are for women and girls only?

Yeah yeah women not wanting men in their spaces, especially men who take 'big game' photos when they are in there, are such bigoted meanies.

We've heard it all before. A gazillion times. Try a new tactic at least.

How is taking the action to preserve single sex spaces in her workplace “bigoted”? How is agreeing with her on that a sign someone is acting like someone who has had a lobotomy?
