What do you make of it? I was all for a break from the cesspit that it is TwiX, but I'm getting dubious vibes. Set up my account, searched for a few of the accounts which I follow on Twitter, got to Kathleen Stock and all I found was transphobe, blah blah type posts. Depressing.

I liked Famous Five too.

The thing about these zealots who're so desperate to rip Harry Potter apart - you could do the same with any novel from the past. None of them conform exactly to today's sensibilities. All will have little slips by the author that could be magnified for political purposes. Language itself evolves, so what was polite becomes deeply offensive. The Famous Five were sexist, classist, and racist - but they appealed to children's need for comfortable certainties, and the overarching story was, like you say, good versus bad, with good triumphing.

In Harry Potter, there's a second strong moral message which is that you have to stand up for what you believe in, even if it makes you unpopular. I think that's a powerful value of Rowling's and the reason why she's stood up to genderists, even when she's being repeatedly told it will destroy her legacy.

The trouble with BlueSky is that people can come out with nonsense, like HP is fascist, then stand uncontradicted because those are the 'correct' opinions.

I read that Blue sky was created by a group of TW, so don't expect it to be kind to any women with GC views. Don't see the point of exchanging one echo chamber for another.

Apparently the founder of BlueSky is a genuine woman. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Graber

I'm constantly reading how TwiX is a cesspool of hate and vileness, but just not seeing it. Maybe those bad algorithms don't like me. Perhaps I should stop pausing at stuff like this https://x.com/HumansNoContext/status/1854907521812562347 (don't worry, that's not hateful, unless you can't stand Haribo).

me too!! that's an account I follow and I love stuff like that

I'm also constantly hearing about TwiX being swamped with porn... I just don't see any of it

I follow loads of GC voices to see what's happening, but rarely post as I don't want the UK police knocking on my door so...

nauticant · 19/11/2024 18:37

Is that Christinapple promoting the Famous Five and The Secret Seven? But I thought Enid Blyton was a literal Nazi.

Twix and BS are distasteful in different ways. Twix is full of Elon Musk, Temu adverts and right-wing views. BS is heavily into genderism. I don't follow any genderists, but this morning my feed was full of she/hers with anime avatars posting their sketches of extremely well endowed anime girls and female animals.

Musk has disappeared from my sight since I muted him.

Appalonia · 19/11/2024 19:48

I honestly don't get all the Elon Musk hate. Don't pp remember what Twitter was like before he bought it? I got suspended for ' hate speech' for telling the vile Aimee Challenor that he was actually male...

RapidOnsetGenderCritic · 19/11/2024 21:34

I don't hate Elon Musk, but I don't consider his views any more relevant to me than anyone else's. If I wanted to see his posts, I would follow him. Before I muted him, he was leaping out in front of me saying "Hi ROGC, look at ME! This is what I think!"

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/11/2024 21:50

If it was really bad you wouldn't be able to mute him though Grin anyone can be muted. I've always preferred muting to blocking.

MalagaNights · 20/11/2024 10:23

Apparently twitter is evenly balanced between left and right viewpoints since Elon took over. Which seems a good thing, no?

There's nothing wrong with having platforms for particular groups to congregate but good luck if you ever find yourself against the consensus and censored again.
What will you do then?

Hope twitter is still there?

The short sightedness of women not realising that without free speech we'd have lost our rights, and they tried to do this (#nodebate anyone ?? )blows my mind.

Did you look at the CNN data?
They're hardly right wing.

Although it could also be correct there has been a right wing 'lurch' i.e a rebalancing.
So it's no longer left wing biased.

It is only "right wing" if you honestly believe the words "adult human female" are literal violence. I'm a robust Marxist and I haven't died of Twix. Yet.

Edited for spelling

"Apparently twitter is evenly balanced between left and right viewpoints since Elon took over."

Twitter allows racist to say the N word to their heart's desire all day every day, but try posting cisgender (a perfectly valid word found in all major dictionaries, which has been discussed on several here) and watch as your post is censored for "hateful conduct".

It's a far right hellhole with a rather weird take on "free speech" regardless what Musk or other ring wing billionaires say about it.

Christinapple · 20/11/2024 14:02

"A [bluesky] curated starter-pack of feminists"

I've heard of 2 of them but other than that it's a list of about a dozen gender critical nobodies. I really don't think bluesky is or will be the place for this sort of thing.

Cisgender is all over twitter.

leftists can say all the radical extreme stuff they want on twitter.

I agree with you that Bluesky is unlikey to be the place for GC realists.

I have never seen the N word on TwiX. I have seen a huge amount of disrespect for women.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/11/2024 15:27

I have never seen the N word on TwiX.

I've never seen it either, it must be the type of people the algorithm thinks Christinapple wants to hear from?

Bluesky has been popular for all of about 2 and a half minutes.

This is a fair comparison period.

DeanElderberry · 20/11/2024 15:32

I've never seen the N word on XTwitter and consider 'cisgender' both hateful and abusive, so hooray for XTwitter for noticing that.

I've edited because I thought the offensive word was ciswoman and see it is cisgender. Both offensive, both abusive, but at least women exist.

That makes a change from seeing hundreds of women have their accounts locked; and/or reported to the police for "hate crimes"; people with public profiles receiving death threats, alongside and images of guns and baseballs bats wrapped in barbed wire - which had been posted by some lovely, left leaning trans people and their allies.

These sorts of things were previously allowed to stand, whilst women lost their accounts and even sometimes their jobs because they'd said that "men were not women" on twitter.

"Cisgender is extreme stuff" lol

You do realise it's just a word that means someone isn't trans if clarification is ever needed (with all the talk of trans people and whether a given person is or isn't trans it's use can be helpful)? "Cis" might sound scary but it's just a very old Latin prefix meaning "on the same side of", and is the opposite of the prefix trans. It can also be used in a whole load of meanings other than gender discussions.

As for "all over twitter" I have tested this for myself and Twitter do send you an email your post has been censored for "hateful conduct".

Hmm.

Do you realise that you are out of touch with how offensive this is?
