Wow! Sam Harris’ latest podcast called The Reckoning.

Right out of the gate, only a few minutes in he is blaming the Democrat defeat at the doors of those who swallowed the TRA movement and pushed it repeatedly.

I was going to quote it but he’s talking about it for so long (women’s sports, social conditioning etc)

it’s worth a listen. He’s considered to be neutral, intelligent, left leaning and very well respected

It's amazing how much courage people niw have following this small nudge of the tiller.

Great work Sam!

illinivich · 11/11/2024 18:40

I was wondering how he'd cope with a trump victory.

ArabellaScott · 11/11/2024 18:41

That's quite bold.

He's still pushing the idea that a four year old can be 'true trans', though.

duc748 · 11/11/2024 19:08

"You're going to end up with President Candance Fucking Owens!" 😃

TempestTost · 11/11/2024 19:16

Interesting. A lot of people think he's the textbook example of TDS.

I think he's a bit of a fake, but a lot of people take him seriously. Though I've seen that some of the Sam Harris groups on places like Reddit have turned against him a while ago, rather like Dawkins and Maher.

ArabellaScott · 11/11/2024 19:24

What is TDS, please?

ArabellaScott · 11/11/2024 19:24

'Identity politics is dead and must be buried'

Trump Derangement Syndrome

duc748 · 11/11/2024 19:31

I did seem to me a bit that he spent the first half of the podcast saying, no wonder Trump won, because the Dems are so shit, because of this, this, and this. And the second half saying, why oh why did people vote for Trump: the man is a monster.

ArabellaScott · 11/11/2024 19:34

'an epidemic of teenage girls wanting double mastectomies'

biscuitandcake · 11/11/2024 19:36

I think there are going to be many cases of men pondorously explaining that actually it turns out there is an issue with trans ideology and that the rest of the left need to really listen to the critics. While the women who Have been trying to raise this as an issue for ages try not to explode in frustration. Ah well, the main point is at list the tide is turning. Expect also a lot of "why were none of the women talking about this" and left wing men discussing the issue with right wing men. Hands across the aisle and all.

duc748 · 11/11/2024 19:37

Didn't he rather just leave that hanging as a soundbite,@ArabellaScott , where I thought he could have done a bit more dot-joining?

ArabellaScott · 11/11/2024 19:38

I think he said they were being pushed into a new cult, and encouraged to seek mastectomies because of things they'd seen on Tiktok. I thought it was quite clear!

Catsmere · 11/11/2024 19:52

Is this the same Sam Harris who said in 2006 "If I could wave a magic wand and get rid of either religion or rape, I would not hesitate to choose religion"? I'd love to think he'd improved since then.

ChaChaChooey · 11/11/2024 19:53

Sam Harris’ response to the Witch Trials of JK Rowling definitely came across as a bit terfy, not surprised he’s come back to the topic again.

Can’t figure out how old his kids are from a cursory google but he’s been married 20 years so potentially has children of an age that they/their peers experienced/witnessed the high point of the ROGD graph.

Bet he has oodles of media acquaintances with gender-y kids too.

We need to get that Victoria Smith article on standby, ready to link to it every time one of these Johnny come lately chin strokers tries to pull that “but why didn’t they say?” schtick.

The wheels are definitely coming right off the TWAW bandwagon in US mainstream media since Kamala Harris’ defeat. Every channel MSNBC, CNN, ABC (of course FOX) have covered and partially blamed the impact of pro-trans policies on the outcome - outbursts all around in the blame game. During the campaign the Republicans ran TV ads in all 7 swing states constantly (especially during football games🤪) with the catchy line “Kamala Harris is for they/them, Donald Trump is for you” - political genius. They had also dredged up an interview where KM was animatedly explaining how she pushed through a law when she was Attorney General in California forcing the state to pay for gender reassignment surgeries requested by transgender prisoners.

Suddenly all the political commentators are condemning this and bio males in women's sports, schools socially transitioning children etc. etc.

Watching the commentaries has been hilarious - all picking their words VERY carefully; but is like seeing a cork coming out of a bottle, they are becoming a tiny bit more daring each time they hear others expressing criticism of trans rights infringing women’s rights and managing to not be immediately cancelled.

It’s been fascinating on Twix since the election. I feel like the gaslighting that’s been going on is suddenly failing spectacularly. Have to wait to see how it all falls out now though. I’ve thought it’s all coming to a climax before and then some crap rolled out from yet another captured power source that set the progress back again. There are mutterings of court cases against the doctors driving this, but nothing concrete. When victims start to sue those doctors, and win, that will really signal the beginning of the end.

Igmum · 12/11/2024 07:08

And about time too. Here's to a United TERFs of America with no children sterilised.

Thanks OP will have a listen.

kiterunning · 12/11/2024 08:13

'Millions of Americans voted on this as a SINGLE ISSUE.'
Starmer wake up!
You will no longer be able to ignore it.

Signalbox · 12/11/2024 09:06

I think this is huge. It’s like JKR coming out in the UK. It will make it so much easier for Democrats in the US to speak out.

It must have felt dreadful to be an American trans person during this election.

Are we walking towards the sensible middle ground do we think?

I've always had the impression that Harris doesn't like Trump because Trump isnt of the calibre to represent him. He maybe right, but he's angry that people would vote for Trump over the respectability of established politicians.

He has spoken out about how bonkers mainstream politics has become, but up until now hasn't thought it bad enough not to vote for them, especially if the alternative is Trump. But i dont think its necessarily just trump, its anyone who is outside the current thinking because that will naturally make them less respectable and challenge current polite ideas. His attitude to trans is a case in point, if he thinks a genuine trans person is someone who thinks they are at four, that naturally leads to childhood transition, doesn't it? But then he critises trans in the classroom. The two statements cannot work within the current mainstream political ideas.

We can see it here in the UK when even as people begin to see trans having gone too far, they are unable to solve anything because they can't challenge the fundamental belief. They are waiting for the 'pendulum to swing back' and not wanting to talk about it. But that is not enough and the only people willing and able to do something are people who aren't afraid of looking 'unsuitable', for want of a better word.
