As if their stance on refusing to safeguard their female staff wasn’t bad enough - they seriously have to be taking the piss now with this.

No actual female models available?

What's the matter with it?

What's the matter with it?

white socks with black shoes? FFS-no wonder this country is going to the dogs.

Snorlaxo · 29/10/2024 18:51

I’m not fashionista but wtf with the styling?! The shoes and socks do not match that dress.

Wimbledonmum1985 · 29/10/2024 18:51

Grim

Stichintime · 29/10/2024 18:51

It's someone pretty androgynous modelling a dress?

Pat888 · 29/10/2024 18:54

Why do they do this -I didn’t shop there for nearly a year after the brattish boy Xmas ad. Think I’ll avoid them again for a while. The only thing they care about is sales so don’t shop there.

GreatNorthBun · 29/10/2024 18:55

Honestly got no idea what the problem is meant to be.

Screamingabdabz · 29/10/2024 18:55

Another ugly JL ad. Clumpy everything and saturated in sludge colours. Ugly furniture, ugly room, ugly dress, ugly hair, ugly shoes. They’ve even made the tree look about as festive as job centre foyer. 🙄

TheBestUsernamesAreGone · 29/10/2024 19:05

Horridly joyless picture

DancingNotDrowning · 29/10/2024 19:08

the picture is neither aspirational nor does it give me the vaguest idea of what the dress might look like on me.

which makes it a pretty hopeless advert

Really!!??

Alpacasmum · 29/10/2024 19:14

Just what is attractive about this?
What makes you want to go out and buy any of it?

Boiledbeetle · 29/10/2024 19:14

I don't like those baubles, they don't look very festive.

Duckyfondant · 29/10/2024 19:15

Model aside, I agree that it's a really ugly advert. Made for attention though, isn't it

YesterdaysFuture · 29/10/2024 19:17

Is the OP's real name John Lewis?

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 29/10/2024 19:17

It's like they've deliberately tried to make everything in the picture look as unappealing as humanly possible. Bizarre approach.

OnTheBounce · 29/10/2024 19:18

It's as if it's been taken from the perspective of someone crashed out on the floor after one Bailey's too many.

KingOfPeace · 29/10/2024 19:18

Obviously I know what you're talking about but please, please can we stop assuming than a man must identify as a woman because of the way he dresses.

I have a gender non conforming son who has been repeatedly pushed down the trans route because he likes long hair, eyeliner, colourful tops and yes the occasional punky skirt.

Men can wear anything they like and still be men.

I do agree if they're targeting women for this I wouldn't be drawn to it and they styling is naff.

OptimisticMermaid · 29/10/2024 19:21

It’s not madly Christmassy.

Georgyporky · 29/10/2024 19:27

A few months ago I posted about M&S using a male to model female clothes.

JL is lagging behind

Hoosemover · 29/10/2024 19:27

Maybe JL is giving a nod to panto season- Cinderella’s evil step mother decorating the Christmas tree

ChaChaChooey · 29/10/2024 19:39

White socks and clumpy loafers is giving me flashbacks to my 1990 school uniform.

GreatNorthBun · 29/10/2024 19:46

Oh, you don't like it because you think men should wear the trousers? Oh, I'm. I'm really struck low by that. I wasn't expecting it on here. Can't we let clothes be clothes?

Anyway I don't want a fight so I'll leave you all to it, but yes I was genuinely at a loss and I guess now I've had my answer.

WhiteWriting · 29/10/2024 20:00

Bloke in a dress advertising what is presumably a party frock bought by mainly women. Not helpful as a fit model as has no hips or bust. Ideological issues aside, poor marketing strategy.

Yeah, I think I agree with this. There is a difference between just a man wearing a dress and a man wearing a dress to ape womanhood.

Sometimes a dress is just a dress. In the same way as trousers are just trousers on a woman. With its straight androgynous lines it doesn't scream woman or drag

(What does strike me as strange is that model's proportions [EDIT presumably photoshopped]. Like an adult-sized lower body has been grafted onto a child-sized upper body (with a pin-sized head). Odd.)
