I've said it several times, the gender critical movement harms all women. Any women who doesn't meet the criteria of what a woman "should look like" is at risk of being wrongly accused of being trans.

Also makes me wonder about that other thread about FWSSport. If a woman with alopecia plays sport with other women are people who are gender critical going to mistake her as a man and report her to FWSSport who will store data on her?

That may be true but my point was about my experience. But I don't want a fight about it. I would rather it didn't happen to me or them.

I see dailymail and "reddux" used as "sources" here all the time.

Glad to know you consider Reduxx a reliable media source. DM is a mainstream newspaper so not more or less reliable than other ones.

HomewardBoundSF · 15/10/2024 18:12

Reduxx might be a one theme Web site but whenever I've looked they always credit their source for the story, which is usually local news outlets. They're more scrupulous in noting sources than Pink News that's for sure, who have simply lifted Walters' tweet verbatim without adding or investigating anything, not even the airport, and without asking Walters for a comment on it. Lazy journalism, which like this thread is intended to make women accept men in their spaces because there's a slight chance some woman somewhere might be accidentally mis-sexed in the loos. Distressing as that might be it doesn't undermine the principle of provision of single sex spaces in any way, shape or form.

Snowypeaks · 15/10/2024 14:52

And when they're not drunk, or coked up? If they have taken their prescription meds?

We can tell men and women apart with a very high degree of accuracy - 98-99%. And not just by their faces. Their gait, their proportions. Their voices.
Babies can do it. Your dog or cat can do it, too.

That doesn't mean that every individual, whatever the circumstances, whether or not they have impaired sensory ability, can do this. It means that it's a fundamental human ability. Maybe Shouty Woman can't tell, but I'm betting she was just being horrible.

Edited

I don't doubt that the vast majority of people without impaired sight, mental illnesses, or who aren't drunk or high have no problem distinguishing between men and women, even ones who don't present unconventionally. However, a significant minority of the general public do fall into one or more of the above categories. In some localities (waves at the Tenderloin in SF) I would dare say they make up the majority.

ChaChaChooey · 15/10/2024 18:42

Pink News is transphobic as well as unreliable!!

Chris should really know better than to link to websites owned by transphobes.
Not much of an ally eh?

It doesn't change the basic fact that sexing other adults is an innate human ability.

NotTerfNorCis · 15/10/2024 22:52

So - there's a lot of publicity about males going into women's toilets and changing rooms.

Some people object, and in rare cases some women are mistakenly challenged by people who believe they're men.

And the people to blame are feminists, not the men themselves or their supposed supporters who are giving them all this publicity?

Honestly, I despair...

You think gay men living in the Tenderloin sometimes accidentally chose female sexual partners? Errr unlikely I’d have said

I agree.

And I’ve said several times the trans movement harms all women so why is my opinion worth less than yours?

Pretty much.

Remember the rules of misogyny.

  1. Women are responsible for what men do.
  2. Women saying no to men is a hate crime.
  3. Women speaking for themselves are exclusionary and selfish.

I actually don't have time to type all 17 of them out and most of them apply here.

Your opinion is worth more because it's actually correct.

The gender critical movement doesn't harm all women. It's debatable whether it harms any women.

WhosPink · 16/10/2024 09:11

What?

The point I am making is that there are very good, fundamental reasons why humans can almost always determine the sex of other humans

And I've pointed out that impaired people cannot always do this. I think it's far more likely that Lindsay was acosted by an impaired, or perhaps just plain unpleasant person than she has just made the whole thing up for shits and giggles.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 16/10/2024 10:48

Fair enough, I agree!

I'm entitled to my opinion, you're entitled to yours.

How does the GC movement 'harm most women?'. Very intrigued as to how one arrives at the conclusion.

Greyskybluesky · 16/10/2024 12:28

It's worse than that, Wes, apparently it harms all women. All of them. Every single one.

Apparently scrutinising people's appearance causes so much more harm to women than supporting male people being in female single sex spaces, sports and taking opportunities meant to lift female people out of the negative impacts of sex discrimination as they have experience for millennia collectively.

Have I got that right?

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 16/10/2024 12:37

I mean, you literally didn’t. Your posts didn’t explain much at all of how not believing you change sex and wanting to retain single sex spaces and sports harms ALL women.

You just said something about scrutinising appearance…

TofuTart · 16/10/2024 12:43

So you did read it really then.
It just doesn't fit your opinion so you pretend you can't see it.
Ok 👍

I read it. I still don't see how that explains how women wanting to retain single sex spaces and sports, and not believing you can change sex harms all women. For the second time. That is what being gender critical is.
