Do these idiots really think they are clever.

🚨Breaking🚨

Trans activists have just disrupted the annual Conference being held by LGB Alliance by releasing insects in the main hall.

These nasty individuals who seek to disrupt a peaceful conference of lesbian and gay people show themselves up to be the real bigots.

I followed the other thread too on AIBU it seems that they did not release the bugs until a trans women was about to speak at 4pm. So I wonder if they were targeting an apostate so to speak

Bannedontherun · 19/10/2024 22:14

I meant man

NoBinturongsHereMate · 19/10/2024 22:23

Not a transman, a woman who was one of the main whistleblowers on the huge failures of 'gender affirming' care for children in the USA. She's married to a (now detransitioning) transman.

lcakethereforeIam · 19/10/2024 22:24

I do wonder if they were frightened of hearing something.

I do wonder if they were frightened of hearing something.

I think the “grown ups” behind the whole stunt instructed them to do it then so they wouldn’t hear it. They made them stay for the “dry” talks about the impact of different legal interpretations of the equality act and the impact on the LGB community and what it was like coming out in the 70s/80s/90s and film it all to show how transphobic we all are. But Jamie was too cool and relatable and couldn’t be easily passed off as a bunch of wolf whistles.

ETA: the grown ups were scared of what the children would hear. I doubt the teens paid much attention to the schedule.

Truthlikeness · 19/10/2024 22:57

Jamie spoke very powerfully. It was somewhat odd timing, given most of the conference was over by that point.

That seems very plausible and the timing is telling.

RunsWithDinosaurs · 20/10/2024 07:55

*Dog whistles not wolf whistles

Helleofabore · 20/10/2024 08:03

The thing is, the adults organising this must have known what the security protocols were for the day. When I go to some venues for work functions, you are searched every entry not just the first time.

They must have know up front so they could be prepared.

Latest post from the activist group:

'This action was also important to me because I believe the crickets should have the chance to participate in activism just as much as humans'

This is the level of intelligence we are dealing with.

So the crickets were willing martyrs?

They probably think that sounds really clever as well

it’s like activism done by Rik from the young ones

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 20/10/2024 09:20

And yet all the animal rights groups aren’t going to go anywhere near this, because it’s the sacred cause.

That is the level of authoritarian and totalitarian thinking we are dealing with.

They have decided that the animal kingdom must comply with their demands too. They decided that the crickets supported their cause on the cricket’s behalf.

And they thought this was a ‘cute’ humorous thing to say? Fuck ….

Got to be honest this just shows up how piss poor security always is.

Bag searches are a great big waste of time. It's only worthwhile if you are using an x-ray machine. I think bag searches actually as deterrent but just about anyone determined to get past security with something ultimately will. Tbh I feel they lull people into a false sense of security for this reason.

(I used to bootleg gigs for personal use many years ago and have managed to get backstage at gigs before with friends when they had passes but I didn't. This has left me with a general sense of how fucking useless security is in practice).

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 20/10/2024 09:41

There was an xray machine. Except people only had to go through it the first time they came in, not if they went out later & came in again wearing a lanyard & ID badge that showed they’d already been checked.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/10/2024 09:59

I mean, surely anyone can see the gaping hole in that security policy? As has been said before, this is a prominent venue very near Parliament, which hosts a wide range of events for the public, private and third sector (I've been there both for work various times and for the WPUK/Fairplay for Women sports event in 2019. This time it was crickets, which must have been in fairly large packages. Next time it could be something much more devastating.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/10/2024 10:00

I don't necessarily mean from TRAs, but anyone with a "cause" of any sort.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 20/10/2024 10:03

Yes. And as I said upthread there were children in the building on the same day as us.

Helleofabore · 20/10/2024 10:04

Aren’t crickets noisy en masse like that in cartons?

Truthlikeness · 20/10/2024 10:06

The 'packages' must have been the size of holdalls and they released more than one. They also smelt bad once opened. Still very surprised they made it though, even if the people had been checked prior.

Yep. They should be having serious investigations into their security policy going forward.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/10/2024 10:09

Yes. And as I said upthread there were children in the building on the same day as us.

That's awful. Hope they were well away from the insects.

There may also have been an indulgent 'they're just little kids' attitude.
