My first two record purchases were "Part of the Union" by the Strawbs and "Silver Machine" by Hawkwind.

I think this makes me sound quite cool. ( I'm not!)

But I'm also a classically trained string player and singer, so have a repertoire of all sorts of stuff!

lcakethereforeIam · 24/10/2024 21:40

I think the first record I ever bought was Shaved Women by Crass, it was a gift for a friend. I'm pretty sure I got it from Woolworths. The first record I bought for myself, I honestly can't remember. I never bought many records, they were expensive!

Bannedontherun · 24/10/2024 21:42

I dont get swift either listened to it found it mundane.

On the other hand when Madonna hit (i have a few of hers), well fuck me she turned it on its head.

Then ended up as a Diva

No! This bit makes you sound cool

You kept that quiet! We've been watching performing gerbils for weeks when we could have had you performing most week nights!!

ErrolTheDragon · 24/10/2024 22:14

PST…..top secret this Alice in the Archers is my step niece.

Wow! That is fame.
The closest to that I can get is that DS was at college with Christopher’s brother. Or was, before they recast him.
Chris used to be Alice’s husband. Does that mean we are related?

I do know one of the scriptwriters, though. We used to be on a committee together.

Bannedontherun · 24/10/2024 23:46

@Octoberaddsagale well you sound as well connected to me cousin if not better xxx

The Scaffold were the other McC bro all right.

Did they do the song Lily the Pink? Some of the lyrics are surprisingly up to date!

Boiledbeetle · 25/10/2024 00:40

Not to brag (totally bragging) If its soaps, I don't think I have any connections to the Archers but...

From Coronation Street

I once got a lift to the train station off Ian Davenport Sally Webster's boss/fling at the car dealership.

I've had lunch with Joe McIntyre, Gails husband

I've had a cup of tea and a natter with Terry Duckworth Jack Duckworths son

Erm...

I had a drink with Tommy Harris mechanic who worked in Kevin Webster's garage

And Monty Harris brief appearances in 1994, think he was linked to Mike Baldwin somehow, amongst other things once took me out for tea with the entire cast of a West end show.

Erm..

There's probably more from Corrie, but I can't think right now!

I'm not even a coronation street fan/watcher!

I'm not particularly well connected at all, but I did work at a theatre for a fair few years in my youth!

Octoberaddsagale · 25/10/2024 00:49

My favourite verse is the one with piccalilli in.

Wikipedia is quite entertaining, too.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/10/2024 00:59

I've got a Corrie one - one of my great aunt's best friends was Thelma Barlow, who she said was nothing like Mavis Riley.
I met her at the GA's funeral, she seemed exactly like Mavis.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/10/2024 01:07

I never really knew the words of Lily the Pink - I'm not sure I ever heard it on the radio, just being (mis) sung in primary school. Similarly with Thank U Very Much, which apparently began 'thank you very much for the ancient lion'Grin

I remember Mavis! Her and Rita used to be so funny together!

Octoberaddsagale · 25/10/2024 01:12

Oh, Boiled, I am not worthy even to read your words!

I did once appear in a walk on run-on-and-shout part with the actors who had played Paul Connor and Tom Connor in Coronation Street. I was dressed as a nun: at least one of them was, too. It was a long time ago.
