Liberal Voice for Women are reclaiming the Lib Dem conference with stall and manifesto

Liberal Voice for Women have a stall at the conference this weekend and it is buzzing.

Our stall at #LDConf in full flow!
Lots of people dropping by including people who agree with us and people who disagree with us and the full spectrum in-between.
Who knew #liberals would want to debate ideas freely?

They are launching a new manifesto For Women. For Reality, For Liberty. If you are a Lib Dem Member or Registered Supporter, add your name online here:
https://liberalvoiceforwomen.org/manifesto

The triumphant hero Natalie Bird is wandering the conference wearing her favourite t-shirt and the TAs are livid. She also spoke at a free speech fringe event:
https://x.com/Nat_freespeech/status/1834937416295071818

They also hosted an event.

Can we talk?
Universities are ordinarily thought of as bastions of free thought, where new ideas can emerge and received wisdom can be challenged. Yet in recent years they have become plagued with incidents of censorship, with efforts to close down speaking events, bully and harass gender critical academics and suppress their research occurring with an alarming frequency.
This is an in-person fringe event for Liberal Democrat Autumn Conference in Brighton (online attendance also available).
Speakers Helen Joyce, Laura Favaro and Almut Gadow chaired by LVW Hon. President Baroness Sarah Ludford

When the announcement that Liberal Voice for Women had a stall was made the genderists went mad. Zoe Hollowood, Chair for Liberal Voice for women, had to write a letter explaining the concept of free speech. See below.

The Genderist hold on the Lib Dems is starting to slip following Natalie Bird's win in court against them. Two Liberal Lords are key supporters of Liberal Voice for Women and more and more ordinary members are signing up.

As soon as women are free to speak the genderist nonsense starts to implode.

Biology is real. Deal with it.

Well done, Natalie Bird! Given the state of all the main parties, I consider who to vote for based on the individual candidates. I hope some more Lib Dems can at least show support for freedom of speech.

ArabellaScott · 15/09/2024 13:16

Absolutely brilliant. So glad to see this. Well done, all.

RedToothBrush · 15/09/2024 15:08

This is really encouraging.

Are the two Lords public yet or still in the closet as GC?

JoodyBlueToo · 15/09/2024 15:45

My MP is Liberal Democrat and pretty dismissive of my concerns. Meeting Zoe at the recent Sex Matters Lobby day was the absolute highlight for me. There is hope and it feels like there is shift happening.

Lovelyview · 15/09/2024 16:12

Really glad to see this. A bit of daylight is very welcome.

More to the point half the Stalls didn't have TA flags. The TAs were going round saying women who believe women are real are EVIL.

Only guess what turns out the witches are just human females.

Reality is arriving and there is no way to stop it.

Twitter post from LVW yesterday:

A young woman just came to our stall and said "I've just been told horrible things about you! So I had to come over." Naturally she signed our manifesto.

It is no secret. They have been calling out TA stuff for years in the Lords.

Hon. President: Baroness Sarah Ludford
Since 1997 Baroness Sarah Ludford* *has been a Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords, where she is currently the party’s Lords Europe Spokesperson. She was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for London from 1999 to 2014, working mainly on EU security, justice and human rights issues and on EU foreign affairs including as vice-chair of the European Parliament delegation to the US.
A qualified barrister, before politics Sarah worked in Whitehall, in the European Commission and in the City for Lloyd’s of London and American Express. Sarah was a local councillor for 8 years during the 1990s in the London Borough of Islington. She is a Vice-President of Liberal Democrat Friends of Israel.

Hon. Vice President: Baroness Dorothy Thornhill
Since 2015 Baroness Dorothy Thornhill has been a Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords, where she is currently the party’s Lords Spokesperson on Housing. She was the UK’s first female directly elected mayor, serving as Mayor for Watford Borough Council from 2002 until 2018. Prior to this she was a district councillor for ten years. Dorothy led the party's internal review into its performance in the 2019 General Election, which was published in May 2020.
Before her political career, Dorothy was a teacher in a career spanning over 25 years, and worked in Bushey as an Assistant Head in the latter part of her career.

The TA had a tight grip on the party, but have never been able to stop the free spirit of many members any more than they can control the Greens.

Now it is all starting to fall apart. Without being able to stop people saying things the TAs are losing control slowly but surely.

Oh this is what the nonsense about the special giant fleg was about on TwiX earlier: people making a holy show of themselves literally wrapping themselves up in a giant trans flag that had been fashioned just for the occasion. The person posting about it wrote such nonsense that people couldn’t tell what side she was on so she’d a load of TRAs howling at her not to be an evil bigot next time then.

Usernameisnotavailabletryagain · 16/09/2024 12:25

Great stuff! When this nonsense is over I expect an official apology for calling their female supporters bigots for refusing to accept policy that worked directly against their interests and sought to remove their rights. I am a former supporter and they need to understand the damage they have wrought by becoming a party for male rights.

Seriestwo · 16/09/2024 12:26

Do we know if they still
get funding from puberty blocker manufacturers?

there’s a sector who’s profit margin is under some pressure, maybe the Lib Dem’s will lose their funding if their flags are too small or too few?

that would be awful.

I got PMed on MN saying 'Natalie Bird is a terrible person' before now.

Its pathetic.

Good to see this happening. Hope it continues to get better.

The Lib Dems lost me over this.

I've was lifelong supporter, used to be a party member but lapsed in the early 2000s thru' laziness not ideologybut until they reconfirm they know what a woman is I'm gone ideologically.

I'm not seeing anything, although I think someone had said it was going to individual MPs rather than the main party?

A gender row has erupted at the Lib Dem conference over a women's group promoting single-sex spaces.

Liberal Voice for Women was blocked from last year's gathering but was given a stand in Brighton this year after the party received legal advice.

But Lib Dem President Mark Pack claimed some people would feel "unhappy and unsafe" at the conference as a result.

The group's presence also sparked a protest outside the conference centre and from other stalls inside.

Liberal Voice for Women chairwoman Dr Zoe Hollowood said: "After allowing Liberal Voice for Women a stall this year at conference, senior Lib Dems could have made the positive, liberal case for platforming women advocating for single-sex spaces.

"Instead, the President, Mark Pack, told conference we were unwelcome saying, 'alas, the law is not as we would wish'.

"He also implied our protected beliefs, worthy of respect in a democratic society, were out with Lib Dem values.

"He told conference goers he ‘regrets’ the decision to allow us a stall and finds equality law ‘frustrating’. This is despite the fact the Lib Dems signed up to the Equality Act in their recent manifesto.

Think the Liberals are going to be worth watching as the out of control gender train moves into the next stage. They are running headlong into a wall, but are slowing down... they still have chance to brake though. The Greens however are still pretty much at full speed.

After all this I am wondering what the Labour Conference is going to look like. Labour Women's Declaration also have a stall for the first time and an event in the conference venue:

I'm on facebook and there has been endless notices from women's groups who are attending / holding fringe meetings at the Labour party conference.

And i have to say feel sort of disappointed so many women's groups want to be there.

admittedly their agendas in no way compare to that of Labour Women's Declaration in terms of challenging the Labour status quo.

Sorry for derail, seems that Lib Dem women are facing some hostitity spurred on by Pink News saying an anti trans group has been allowed to attend the conference.

Does he even realise that this is how his attitude makes women feel ?

Or is he familiar with the letters 'ERCC'.

Fuck me there are some tools in politics.

Labour have power. It is only natural that women's groups want to try and influence them.

I think Labour genuinely want to make things better for women, but they all do Lib Dems, Tories, SNP etc. The problem ultimately is all the parties and their competing interests are trying to make women's issues fit their agenda rather than adapting themselves to women or indeed to men as they really are.

Take Labour's big plans to tackle VAWG. I don't doubt they want to do it, but are they actually going to do any better than the Tories did?

Ultimately women need to fight to push the parties to actually serve their interests.

I don't think he cares. I don't think he cares what women think, how they feel or what they need. He certainly doesn't care if women feel unhappy or unsafe. He might as well be wearing a tshirt saying "I'm a misogynist."

My new LD MP is such a good local MP. He's working harder than the Cons MP ever did - but he also believes women's rights are nonsense.
