Gisele Pelicot, utterly floored by this

twoboystwodogs · 14/09/2024 16:55

I am totally stunned by what happened to Gisele Pelicot, it is beyond horrific. The violation, the betrayal of trust, and that so many 'normal' men thought what they were doing was OK. I am struggling to find words. I'm not wanting to belittle all the other horrendous cases of violence against women. But to be drugged in your own bed by your husband and your husband allow other men to come in and rape you and he films it and he puts it on the Internet and encourages other men to do this to their wives. For over 10 years. What the actual f###? How much more of this abuse are women going to have to take before something is really done to stop it?

That’s the thing with playing the videos behind closed doors. It doesn’t show the horror of it in the same way.

Its like on the men came out and some one asked him how he’d feel if it had been his mum.
Cue for swearing and him telling the woman ‘I’ll come and rape your mum! You’re not touching MY mum!’
Obviously missing the irony of his comment….

But yes, it’s always ok when it’s someone else. It doesn’t feel real etc…
But when it’s someone close, all hell breaks loose.

See also men who tell you ‘there is rape and rape’ but are hyper protective of their own daughters, dint want them alone at night, check on the potential bf etc….

except if the videos are shown publicly there would be a lot of people (mostly men) who would rather... enjoy that

I can see how Gisele may want the trial public, but not the videos public

and agreed, the judges need to see them, pretty sure they will

DreamHolidays · 30/09/2024 20:44

GP asked for the journalists to be there if not the public.
The judge still says NO.
This would have avoided all the pervs that would have enjoy it!

So the videos were shown
And GP was the only woman there in the middle of the 51 men who raped her. (Re) watching what had happened. And yes the judges.

I think the journalists presence might have made it easier for her.
But more importantly, it would have allowed them to report in what they saw, not just whatever the lawyers/accused might say. There would be another level of transparency. Not for the trial in itself. But to the ‘outside’ world.

Just like the tactics from the lawyers that aimed to make an easy woman who was maybe an exhibitionist anyway, read was an easy woman, were laid bare by opening the trial to all.

ChateauMargaux · 01/10/2024 07:54

I am glad she made her feelings known.

The victim is on trial ... the accused are protected...

Her past behaviours are admitted in evidence, their's are not.

In other news, still in France, a JUDGE, who was offering his own 12yo daughter to be raped and sent explicit photos of her got a 3 years suspended sentence.

He got caught because, this time, some people who saw the ‘offer’ reported him…..

He also kept his parental rights until the sentence. His dd was, by then, 17.5yo.

Jesus Christ. Sometimes you just want to burn it all down.

I hope his DD is protected, supported, cared for and loved and finds a way to move beyond that horror. How dare he do that. My god.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 01/10/2024 11:18

JFC, a judge did this? I cannot fathom the absolute wickedness of some men. Glad someone reported him so at least his poor daughter was protected.

It is cruelty, out in the Open. This is what cruel people do.

I remember another thread about a woman in France who had written a book about her family. Fairly affluent, part of a circle of arty, political influence.

Her experience was that it was not uncommon for duaghters to be offered as sexual "presents" to men in that circle.

ie child sexual exploitation.

please tell me he is no longer a judge

DreamHolidays · 01/10/2024 19:11

No he isn’t a judge anymore.

He is still living with his wife and daughter though….

No idea how the daughter has managed. The impact on her must have been horrendous.

DreamHolidays · 01/10/2024 20:54

WTF is going in in France atm
An (ex) surgeon will go in trial next after raping or sexually assaulting more than 300 (!!!) patients. A lot if them when they were unconscious. And guess what he was taking photos and videos too.
The average age of the patients was … 11yo

I dint even know how I’m feeling about it now.

GrouchyKiwi · 01/10/2024 20:58

There are no words.

lcakethereforeIam · 01/10/2024 21:26

I've just looked up the surgeon, Joël Le Scouarnec, he raped his nieces, one of his victims was 4 years old! All meticulously documented. Ffs. Retirement didn't stop him.

Why do women fear and distrust men?

Pingpongglitch · 01/10/2024 21:32

INeedAPensieve · 14/09/2024 17:07

It's absolutely awful isn't it? I've been so upset by this news story. It's completely enraged me. I'm just shocked at how many "ordinary" men took part.

Germaine Greer was right all along; we just don't really understand how much men hate us.

That's the fear isn't it, that they actually ARE just "ordinary" men. If they are ordinary, women have even more to worry about than they think they do and that's quite enough already.

one of the rebuttals to womens (reasonable) fear of SA is "but it's only a few men, a small minority"

I'm beginning to wonder if that's actually true, I suspect it's a sizeable minority, not small at all, maybe we can apply the 80/20 rule here? maybe it's 20? I don't know....

but then the bigger issue here is that even if it IS a small number of men, through their actions they can affect HUNDREDS of women and children as this case shows

so it doesn't need to be a minority for them to have an outside and massive impact on us ffs

Fengipack · 01/10/2024 23:01

LittleGreenDuck · 14/09/2024 17:50

I can't get over not just that her husband would do that, but that approximately 80 men raped her and none of them thought it was a problem. Allegedly, they were all local "normal" men as well. Apparently only five men walked away when they realised what was going on, and not one of them thought to report what they'd seen.

That poor woman. So incredibly brave.

Only five walked away but I bet many more knew and just carried on regardless . I don't buy this " I thought she was going along with it "nonsense .

turbonerd · 02/10/2024 06:25

They are all «normal» men.
This behaviour is sadly not that unusual.

Trial was 4 years ago though there was something about him from a few days ago but in French. He was apparently given 15 years.

But yes, we can still be shocked by the coldness and callousness of so called ‘ordinary’ men who don’t even hate us, but rather think of females as something other than human only here to be used.

I assume roughly 20% of men are dangerous. A very very very rough estimate, but the kind of thing it's very hard to find reliable data on.

ChateauMargaux · 02/10/2024 21:02

The former surgeon was charged with 4 rapes, 4 years ago and sentenced to 15 years. There has been an on-going investigation into the remaining 300 cases and he is being recalled to court to face those charges.

And I think too many of them actually so little about that that they are happy to close their eyes on the behaviour of those 20%.

You just have to look at the reaction of men about those trials (and others). So many don’t report, ignore, minimise or even support when they see something ‘not quite right’

I'd say no one wants us to know the real number.
Even if it's as low as 20%, the other 80% have a vested interest in keeping us down. Why dont the 80% speak out?
My reckoning with my vast experience (sarcasm for the unknowing) is 50%.

Can you fill in the missing word please, menopause has shattered my brain and I seemingly cannot guess it today.

'Care' or 'think', I suspect.
