‘Demure and mindful’ - oh great.

So this trend. I’m bridling at the ‘demure and mindful’ bullshit being promoted by someone who is performing femininity.

Demure and mindful women seldom make history. Here we go again, being sent back into our boxes by men.

Jools Lebron on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Very demure, very mindful - are we missing joke of Jools Lebron trend?

A demure TikTok has gone viral, but is it an ironic joke or does it set unrealistic standards for women?

It’s a joke. A lot of what they say is demure and mindful absolutely isn’t. It’s a piss take of the whole clean girl aesthetic trend. I think trans people are allowed to make jokes about current trends without being seen as monsters.

What is a 'clean girl aesthetic'? Never heard of it.

@Helleofabore

You cannot seem to address what people are discussing. You have misrepresented the argument completely. It is like you cannot correctly characterise the points being raised at all.

Is this really your only conflict-solving solution? You used the exact same words and technique with me a few days ago. Why can't you just debate civilly?

As civilly as repeatedly calling women posting here “bigots”. Civil my arse.

FreedomDogs · 25/08/2024 13:31

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 25/08/2024 13:24

They are male, that is biological fact. They can wear all the make up they want but taking the piss out of it for a laugh is something they can only do because they are male. If a female did this they would be derided and judged for it. Can you really not see the inequality?

I see no evidence this is true though? Why would a female be derided for making the same meme? Women joke about make up all the time too.

Helleofabore · 25/08/2024 13:32

ChaChaChooey · 25/08/2024 13:24

WTF is uncivil about Helle’s posts?

Remember this is someone who took exception to me saying that the behaviour of those on the far right is unique to the far right. I merely pointed out that was biased considering the evidence that those we have seen lately on the left behave the same way.

SensibleSigma · 25/08/2024 13:33

Ah, here we are. I wondered if I’d missed something, but no. The same scolds turning up to make sure women don’t talk about things they find important without some chaps to tell them off for being wrong.

YesterdaysFuture · 25/08/2024 13:34

I just thought that this whole thing exploded as part of a mockery over the person who posted the original video, I didn't think they were being held up as some inspiration.

DeanElderberry · 25/08/2024 13:34

Women joke about make up all the time

Really? I must have been mixing with wrong women all my life. Some of us wear it some of the time. What's to joke about?

ChaChaChooey · 25/08/2024 13:35

FreedomDogs · 25/08/2024 13:29

She's not a drag queen.

Did you forget your own previous comment?

‘mocking gender norms’ absolutely can be misogynistic- drag being the obvious example.

Funnily enough, GC feminists aren’t keen on misogyny-as-entertainment.

‘Demure and mindful’ - oh great.

There's nothing "uncivil" about pointing out when behaviour is bigoted, especially since it's far more "uncivil" to be a bigot than it is to call out bigotry when you see it. Do you also scold people who call out racism or homophobia because god forbid they appear rude? Is that a far worse sin than the bigotry they're observing in your book?

Honestly, it's pretty chilling to say you can't call out bigotry when you see it lest it be thought rude. Do you always try and control people's language in this way?

And we all know men shouldn't be wearing make up, right girls, that's our shit that we were born with on our faces and have written into our DNA 🙄🙄

Like seriously even if you believe trans women are men, why the fuck shouldn't they wear make up?

It's amazing watching a group of so called "gender criticals" who clearly actually aren't interested in being critical of gender stereotypes at all, they just want to uphold them because Make up is for GIRLS apparently. Does it not bother you that this trans person is actually being more gender critical than you are right now?

It is not a matter of belief. TW are male by definition.

I think most of us are just sick to death of drag; don't find it funny; don't find it 'celebratory', and in fact find most of it offensive and revelling in negative feminine portrayals. Using words, phrases and 'memes' that have been used to degrade women for a long, long time.

Drag is largely over-blown and ugly caricature......It had its time - when it was subversive for men to wear make-up and dress up 'as a woman'...now, though,it is as antiquated as the B&W minstrel show and just endlessly recycles the same old shit.

Are you exhausted? Must take a lot of energy seeking out all these alleged ‘bigots’ to scold.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/08/2024 13:38

Even if you believe that they're male

I'd have to be pretty stupid not to, given that they are. Can you really not acknowledge that indisputable fact?

Can't speak for anyone else on the thread but I'm certainly not a "chap". I know it's nice and easy and comforting to dismiss anyone who disagrees with you by calling them a man but that doesn't make it true.

Are you genuinely trying the "Doesn't she look tired?" move? 🤣🤣🤣

SensibleSigma · 25/08/2024 13:41

It’s a funny thing how calling out misogyny is tedious and bigoted.
I thought you said it was good to call out bigotry? Why are you so upset when we do?

ChaChaChooey · 25/08/2024 13:41

You can’t BE a TW if you aren’t male!

For female people transition means becoming a transman.

Shortshriftandlethal · 25/08/2024 13:42

FreedomDogs · 25/08/2024 13:29

What is the difference, in your view, between a TW and a gay man dressing up and performing feminine gender?

Feminists are also not keen on being dehumanised in the way 'gender criticals' dehumanises.

We would be rightfully deleted if we used terms like 'transes'. And yet, we see extreme transgender rights activists use this dehumanising language all too often.

SensibleSigma · 25/08/2024 13:44

Love me a bloke in makeup. Especially the ones I thought were straight when I was a teen fan girl.

Guyliner is gorgeous. I dated a miner with coal dust permanently in his lashes. He only looked cool, it turned out he wasn’t.

Now I’m a Wayne Goss fan and there’s another chap on Facebook I like who really slaps it on. Men in make up rock, when they don’t call themselves women.

ChaChaChooey · 25/08/2024 13:45

FreedomDogs · 25/08/2024 13:40

I wouldn’t use a she pronoun for you - nothing about your username or posting presence indicates female-ness.

I just wonder why someone would actively come to MN FWR to scold feminists - I wouldn’t go to Susan’s Place to scold males with gender identity.

Seems a pointless waste of energy to me.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/08/2024 13:45

Yes, I agree with pp that the earnest scolders, rather than the drive bys, are mostly a small number of posters name changing frequently, because most people, whether they agree or disagree, can't be arsed.

Ladies, ladies, settle down! You’re not giving the right impression! Let’s be a little more ladylike!

Helleofabore · 25/08/2024 13:47

FreedomDogs · 25/08/2024 13:29

Please explain how biology is relevant in this context? Does this person's chromosomes or genitals mean they can't put on make up or make a joke about it?

And again you don't seem to understand what posters are saying.

Does it matter that a male person is wearing make up? NO
Does it matter that a male person makes a joke about wearing make up? NO

Does it matter that a male person is declaring they are female (using female pronouns) while making a joke about being a female wearing supposedly defying female sex stereotypes? YES
