‘Demure and mindful’ - oh great.

So this trend. I’m bridling at the ‘demure and mindful’ bullshit being promoted by someone who is performing femininity.

Demure and mindful women seldom make history. Here we go again, being sent back into our boxes by men.

Jools Lebron on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Very demure, very mindful - are we missing joke of Jools Lebron trend?

A demure TikTok has gone viral, but is it an ironic joke or does it set unrealistic standards for women?

What part of this person being male and mocking female oppressive stereotypes while using female stereotypes to define themselves is to be celebrated?

Is it to be celebrated because it is a person with a transgender identity rather than a male comedian? Is it to be celebrated because it is a person with a transgender identity rather than a drag artist?

Love me a bloke in makeup. Especially the ones I thought were straight when I was a teen fan girl.

It's not really my thing but many men look good in make up, my (bi) boyfriend as a teen sometimes wore dresses clubbing, eyeliner etc without a big deal being made, as it was the 90s and arguably people were less bothered about stereotypes.

Guyliner is gorgeous. I dated a miner with coal dust permanently in his lashes. He only looked cool, it turned out he wasn’t.

Now I’m a Wayne Goss fan and there’s another chap on Facebook I like who really slaps it on. Men in make up rock, when they don’t call themselves women.

I’m a big fan of make up/skin care YouTuber John MacClean (despite being disinterested in make up generally!)

I'm not a man and I think Ive posted in FWR about twice,- fwiw.

It's amazing that you have no concept of just regular everyday women finding the constant trans bashing absolutely tedious. When it's over something as innocuous as this as well.

Don't worry, I'll try and hide the board.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 25/08/2024 10:21

Sorry tried demure years ago, not doing that again. I'll stick to outspoken and direct thanks. As for dressing demure what exactly does that mean to someone who lives in jeans and t-shirts, I'm not flashing anything but I'm not feminine either.

You're not me are you?? !!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/08/2024 13:51

Many regular everyday women find gender identity politics absolutely tedious too.

You should stick around. You might understand why feminists find using the word ‘bitchy’ misogynist as a start.

See @FreedomDogs - this is a normal reaction to something you don’t like/aren’t interested in.

Hanging around day after day for hours and hours wagging your finger at the annoying women-who-won’t-shut-up is unusual. There are only a handful of you that do it.

quantumbutterfly · 25/08/2024 13:54

ChaChaChooey · 25/08/2024 13:45

I wouldn’t use a she pronoun for you - nothing about your username or posting presence indicates female-ness.

I just wonder why someone would actively come to MN FWR to scold feminists - I wouldn’t go to Susan’s Place to scold males with gender identity.

Seems a pointless waste of energy to me.

Pp seems to be quoting matey boy from Dr Who.

Objective reality Vs subjective reality means that some of us know that TV shows are pretend and biological sex is real.

FreedomDogs · 25/08/2024 13:29

She's not a drag queen.

Someone else has implied they were. So which is it?

BTW, you still haven't explained the joke.

RamonaRamirez · Today 12:07
^ the joke is that it was ironic^

a person who is not very demure or mindful (who knows 😁) in fact rather the opposite, being quite OTT and silly, dissing a style she was wearing in her previous video.

she was basically taking the Mickey out of herself and it was funny as sort of unexpected (if you have not seen the original video, picture someone in full on drag clutching her pearls and tutting about being demure) it’s the juxta position of the outfit (and previous outfits) that makes it funny

My biggest takeaway from that article is what stunningly dire mega-garbage the BBC is prepared to put onto its 'news' site. I had no idea it was full of such bollocks. Cheapskate pointless rehashes of social media trends circulating in the daftest lagoons of the internet.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/08/2024 13:58

Yes, it's so fucking tedious and mediocre and lazy.

Caliga · 25/08/2024 13:58

@ChaChaChooey

WTF is uncivil about Helle’s posts?

Did you read the copied part in my post? That's just rudeness. It's a tactic Helle uses frequently to put particular users off posting on the board.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/08/2024 14:01

No, it's not "just rudeness" or a "tactic". It was a clear description of what Helle perceived in that post. Refute it, by all means Caliga, if you can.

Scentedjasmin · 25/08/2024 14:02

Why is this even news?? I really just despair at the sort of mindless mind rotting stuff that goes Viral. I cannot fathom whether the population is becoming dimmer on a daily basis, or whether it's just those who subscribe to Tiktok.

Helleofabore · 25/08/2024 14:02

Do some posters actually believe that people need to comply with their personal philosophical belief that a male can be a woman? And that they some how cease to be male?

And that male people who describe themselves as female people some how lose the entitlement of being male? Despite not experiencing negative sex based discrimination from birth?

Nah. We don’t need to comply with these beliefs. We don’t have to think that a male commentary on female sex stereotypes is worthy of celebrating. And certainly not celebrating as if they are a female making a social statement about sex stereotypes, when the material reality is that the male person has adopted those very same stereotypes they are supposedly mocking to describe themselves as being somehow female.

GailBlancheViola · 25/08/2024 14:04

A lot of you girls go to the interview looking like Marge Simpson and go to the job looking like Patty and Selma. Not demure.

So it is just a joke and women also joke about make up all the time FreedomDogs so I can now comment without backlash, without censure, without any come back at all on how TW make themselves up, the clothes they wear, how they look in said make up and clothes and you will support me 100% when I claim it to be a joke - good to know.

Caliga · 25/08/2024 14:05

@Helleofabore

Remember this is someone who took exception to me saying that the behaviour of those on the far right is unique to the far right. I merely pointed out that was biased considering the evidence that those we have seen lately on the left behave the same way.

Thanks. You may want to copy that over as I don't recall that in any way. It doesn't seem like a thing I would assert at all.

Indeed. It's sounding more like the old News of the World or Sunday Sport with each day that passes, respected news site? In their dreams.

Does she perceive it in most opposing voices on threads that she then attacks in exactly the same way? Perhaps she has a Word document that she just copies and pastes from as the similarity is uncanny.

I had to scroll back, did you mean this bit ?

Caliga · Today 13:23

You cannot seem to address what people are discussing. You have misrepresented the argument completely. It is like you cannot correctly characterise the points being raised at all.

Is this really your only conflict-solving solution? You used the exact same words and technique with me a few days ago. Why can't you just debate civilly?

She's trying to get you to discuss the actual point, unfortunately many posters won't. If you can't that is fine but that means that YOU can't debate not Helle. Don't put your inadequacies onto her, that is YOU being rude (and deflective).

SensibleSigma · 25/08/2024 14:11

It’s like the Mother in law jokes, isn’t it.

Just a joke. Yes. Repeatedly told about the same people, and effectively limiting the behaviour of those women to either comply with the hilarious stereotype or reject it and demonstrate their cool MiL credentials.

No opportunity to find the role for themselves.

In your subjective opinion it’s ‘just rudeness’

In my subjective opinion it’s ‘clear, decisive analysis of what Helle observes and believes to be the truth, free of pandering’.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/08/2024 14:12

Yes I was thinking that too @SensibleSigma - it never gets old.

On this thread, it was aimed at another poster. On a different thread, it was aimed at me. Word for word. This is my point.
