So this trend. I’m bridling at the ‘demure and mindful’ bullshit being promoted by someone who is performing femininity.

Demure and mindful women seldom make history. Here we go again, being sent back into our boxes by men.

Jools Lebron on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Very demure, very mindful - are we missing joke of Jools Lebron trend?

A demure TikTok has gone viral, but is it an ironic joke or does it set unrealistic standards for women?

I’m waiting for a transman to make a fortune by posting videos telling men it’s not demure and mindful to shove one’s hands down the front of one’s pants, or get one’s nips and hairy armpits out in public at the first sign of the sun.

I somehow don’t think men would be so quick to join in with the joke, though. Must be all that socialisation that comes from being assigned female at birth that makes women so quick to embrace the piss-taking.

However while I can’t stop men being weird about women and sexist but I don’t have to pretend I like it or think it’s funny.

You (we) don't have to not talk about it, either.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/08/2024 16:59

So a woman, who happens to be trans

A male, @Echobelly as you well know. Why be so disingenuous?

I think the evidence of the offensive posting is probs in the fact that there are plenty of deleted comments on such threads (just as this one has).

On a few threads where I noticed who was being deleted, it was largely those who were telling posters how transphobic, disgusting and hateful they were. It was repeated over and over again.

Plenty of deleted posts in this thread? I counted 4 one of which was from someone on your side of the line. This thread runs to 15 pages so far with an average of 25 posts per page so 4 deleted posts out of 375, I think your evidence is a bit thin.

See, this bit reminds me of reading about the difficulty of having ‘professional hair’ and so on for black women, that I’d been in ignorant bliss about. Obviously I would never join in that conversation because my experience or opinion is in no way relevant as I’m not a woman of colour.
Could you imagine how inappropriate it would be for me to joke about that?

Well exactly.

I am mixed race. Though not black but both me and dd have naturally very curly hair though. I wouldn’t do a video with my hair ironed straight telling black women how to be demure and mindful at work and get themselves together.

It’s inappropriate.

Just because you repeat something @Ereshkigalangcleg doesn't make it true!

Being true is what makes it true

@BaronessEllarawrosaurus I’m liking the dinosaur reference it your name. It’s appropriate.

Jools LeBron is a woman.

Moreover this whole demure and mindful comedy trend has naff all to do with ‘oppression of women’. It’s just a TikTok trend responding to brat summer.

What was that about shaming people?

Do you think referring to people who disagree with you as dinosaurs is not an act of shaming?

Helleofabore · 25/08/2024 17:29

In what way has a male person become ‘not male’ once they make a declaration that they are ‘women’?

This really is not logically cohesive.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/08/2024 17:32

Being true is what makes it true

Quite.

Dear god if that’s the level of debate we’ve got to, I’m really can’t be arsed! 😂

I’m really can’t be arsed!

We can all see that.

Demure and whatever it was = my oppressor oppresses me then my oppressor makes jokes about my oppression, then my oppressor insists I laugh at the jokes about my oppression.

It's only bantz, it's like we can take a joke or something.

I wouldn't find it funny if it was a woman doing this. The fact it's a man takes me back to the 1980s as another pp said - mother-in-law jokes. Then, the fact it's a man insisting this is ok because he's one of the girls - next level gaslighting. But it's just a joke, lighten up. I'm struggling with it all tbh. I don't go on tik tok or the like but I like to read the news and this shit is all over the BBC

That is hilariously hypocritical.

You have done nothing on this thread except assert that somehow male people
can become ‘women’. Just because they say they can.

Dinosaurs, TERFs, yeah… no shaming being done here.

SensibleSigma · 25/08/2024 18:06

Ms Lebrun is without doubt standing with the patriarchy laughing as us rather than with us.

if you want a debate you could explain what characteristics Jools and I share that make us both women. I'd be really impressed (genuinely!) if you did

It does seem that those who declare ‘you won’t let us express our opinions!’ seem to always over look their own name calling, their own lack of engagement while declaring they are being silenced, and their lack of facts while declaring they have stated something factual.

And had one of their posts deleted, tut, tut. What's that phrase about people in glass houses not throwing stones?

Thepurplecar · 25/08/2024 19:02

Funny how these men proclaim to 'feel' like women but feign ignorance as to why many women 'feel' the way they do about the intrusion of men into our spaces. Which is it lads? Do you understand what it is to be a woman or not? Do you understand why we won't accept you into our spaces? Why you'll never be 'one of the girls'? Because if you really can't get it, you don't get women.
