In court the judge can only apply the law. The law enables people to change sex. Therefore it is possible to change sex. You can change your sex in law.
The hope can only be that cases like this show that the law needs to be changed.

Sorry to be an arse about it, but I think we really need to resist using the language we’ve been ordered to use. The law categorically does not allow anyone to change sex because such an act is impossible. The law can only go so far as allowing all records pertaining to sex to be changed. If absolutely necessary I will concede that one’s legal sex can be changed. But not the actual sex. I can no more accept one’s actual sex changes than I can accept that the sun revolves around the earth. (Though, tbf, there is more compelling evidence for a geocentric universe than one in which males can become females.)

No, you're not being an arse. You're right. We have to keep calling out the nonsense, or it gains currency and legitimacy.

Sall said in an interview with Julie Bindel that a trans person only has to fart in the right direction, and the media falls over itself to say how brilliant/oppressed they are.

So, it's mighty strange that they haven't said a dicky bird about this.
To me, that's a tacit admission that they know Tickle's a man.
A very unappealing man, at that.

Rymeswithpunt · 23/08/2024 01:05

I think they don't want to publicize where GI ends up as it does fit the narrative that 'trans rights' can never harm women.
I think the Olympic furor could not be glossed over as they had to show the event and it was just obvious what was going on.

lonelywater · 23/08/2024 01:05

presumeably in Aus, as elsewhere, the Supreme Court is where the adults live?

Christinapple · 23/08/2024 01:06

Alison Bailley lost her appeal against Stonewall too, and in a case from 2 days ago a man was sued for false remarks against 2 drag queens having to pay each $100,000 and retract his allegations.

https://manchester.inklink.news/derry-state-rep-settles-lawsuit-with-drag-queens-for-100k-each-retracts-completely-false-remarks/

Whose case is next? Lawrence Fox (who also made allegations against a drag queen)? Glinner? Isn't Maya being investigated too for allegations against a doctor?

Trouble is, nothing really lands here in the UK unless it's been on the "proper" news - BBC, C4, Sky, etc - and I worry that it's the same in Australia.

I think the msm is losing ground increasingly quickly (mainly due to stuff like this)

:@Christinapple 'In July 2023, the employment tribunal ordered Garden Court Chambers to pay £20,000 legal costs to Bailey because of its "unreasonable conduct" during the case' Wikipedia
seems like winning to me?

JemimaTiggywinkles · 23/08/2024 01:13

In most places it isn’t that the Supreme Court is where the adults live (else Roe vs Wade wouldn’t have been overturned). The Supreme Court is where judges are not bound by previous cases. They’re only bound by the legislator (eg parliament). If Sall loses at all possible courts, she can still win by convincing the government to change the existing law.

This is a long and difficult road which appears to need women to prove to our governments that reality is a thing. It is crappy and difficult but not impossible. 5 years ago TERF island wasn’t even a thing. Now both major parties accept that women have sex based rights. Children aren’t being given puberty blockers. The general public increasingly understands that transwomen are male. It is depressingly slow but we are making progress.

Odd that the BBC did not choose to use Tickles photo

Terribly, terribly odd...!

JemimaTiggywinkles · 23/08/2024 01:18

Possibly odd. More likely propaganda.

This has been debated to death in other threads.

In summary AB's main goal was to sue Stonewall (she had huge "I am suing Stonewall!" banners on her twitter at the time). She failed twice, and attempting to do so cost an estimated £1 million in total

The £20k or so awarded after case #1 was for some tweet or something by GCCs which was nothing to do with Stonewall.

Out of the loop here. Can someone please sum up super concisely why they are in court in the first place?

Whatever will they do once all the lesbian dating sites are nothing but other men?

Codlingmoths · 23/08/2024 01:21

So a judge just decreed there is no such thing as female only spaces in Australia. Women’s sports teams, girls schools, they’d all have to accept boys and men?

I hope the appeal highlights this just doesn’t work.

Women want a female only app for chatting so Australian woman sets one up. Male person thinks he’s a woman so demands access. Kick-ass Australian woman says no. Court believes men can magically become women so sides with male person.

On this board we hope the kick-ass Australian woman is willing to take the fight to the next stage.

Rymeswithpunt · 23/08/2024 01:23

Its actually really nasty propaganda. Usually you would def expect a photo of the successful applicant, even if its in the body of the article.
This time nothing, and the heading pic could just about conceivably be construed as a tw making tickle seem more sympathetic than he would if you got a glimpse of him.
More shitty behavior from the beeb.

Never used one have you?

Lesbian dating app Her (which glinner signed up for to cause trouble only to be kicked off) allows trans women, has done so from the start and has no plans to change as they are doing very well. They publicly support trans women users and don't tolerate any trolling or stalking of users.

Grindr also permits trans users.
