Just reading the thread on here for the first time. What I fail to understand is why so many contributors are so desperate for her to be a man. Someone who has lived their entire life as a woman. Beggars belief.

We do also have ⚓a lovely blue anchor for some visual rhyming slang.

Isn’t a thing.

I think we're well past having to argue this when JK is calling trans women blokes, denying the Holocaust, and supporting people who say they want trans people sterilised. The fact she's currently busy deleting her tweets calling an Olympic-gold-medal-winning woman a man should show you even she knows she's gone wrong somewhere.

supporting people who say they want trans people sterilised

Of a boy is taken by his mother abroad to be castrated because she believes he should look more like a girl in accordance with her belief that he is a girl, and then he is given female hormones, do you not think that is sterilising him?

Please send links to your allegations about JKR.

ScoldsBridle · 21/08/2024 10:07

Oh yes that is fabulous! I’m going to use that - the fact it also functions in a Cockney rhyming slang way is brilliant. Who said it originally on the thread?

That would be moi - note I said dragging anchor, not dredging anchor, the first is negative, the second is an intentional controlled action. I thought you'd like to know that detail.
Now can I lead you all in a rousing chorus of 'Oh she had a lovely naval uniform'Grin
[BTW I don't actually have a naval uniform of any kind, I'm not a sailor, I just collect words and concepts the way other people collect... whatever people collect these days.]

Chersfrozenface · 21/08/2024 10:35

There are lots of naval / maritime idioms around.

Two of my favourites are
'a loose cannon' = an unpredictable or uncontrolled person who is likely to cause unintentional damage (like a heavy cannon on a wheeled carriage rolling around uncontrolled on a moving deck)
and
'scuttlebutt' = gossip, rumour (a water barrel with a hole cut into it so that sailors could reach in and dip out drinking water, where gossip would be exchanged, the original water cooler).

Please tell me we didn't just have a "nobody REALLY knows what sex they are anyway" comment?

Depressing.

borntobequiet · 21/08/2024 10:16

an actual man with XX genes

Isn’t a thing.

Someone on this board has an XX husband (they found out during infertility investigations). Such individuals normally have an SRY gene which translocated from the Y to the X during the crossover recombination phase of gamete formation.

When people say 'sex is really complicated/it's a spectrum', the answer is to point out that this sort of event is very, very rare and means things have gone awry. It's not a reason to give up on sex testing or the concept of binary sex altogether.

HootyMcBooby · 21/08/2024 11:02

Depressing.

I'm mostly irritated by the lack of internal logic.

On the one hand sex is complicated and can only truly be found out by interrogating gender identity. Khelif claims a female gender identity. And the IOC only requires female ID, which Khelif has. So there was never any need for a sex test.

OTOH, whilst every GC person I know suspects Khelif of being male, whilst being open to new evidence, every trans and trans ally is utterly convinced she's female and the victim of a Russian plot. When the test doesn't even matter. Why are they like this? And what do they mean by 'female'? Given the context, they can only mean the whole 'has XX chromosomes and ovaries' malarkey. But I thought their whole philosophy was that that stuff isn't necessary to femaleness, so why do they even care?

hihelenhi · 21/08/2024 11:45

Gnashbee · 21/08/2024 09:10

Even if you're fully on board with JKR and hate trans woman, it seems like a very bad idea to rely so heavily on chromosome tests to decide someone's gender, as it throws up a whole array of other issues if we have to use test-tubes to decide if someone's a man or a woman. I don't know if such a condition exists, but what happens when an actual man with XX genes decides to compete against women? What basis would anyone have to say he shouldn't?

Plus, how would anyone know their own gender for sure until it was tested?
Even apart from woman's sports, it seems to me that any random woman could have some previously unknown condition that meant she had XY genes, that still wouldn't make her a man.

Yet another demonstration of the ridiculousness of transactivists.

  • JKR does not "hate trans women". She, like anyone with a brain and a backbone, knows that they are male and will say so. Women saying no to males and standing up for themselves is not "hate".Not agreeing that "woman" is a set of regressive stereotypes or a feeling in a man's head is not "hate". Agreeing would require our own subjugation. No.
  • Being male is not an insult. It's a fact. Pathetic argument, but illustrative of TRA thinking, thanks.
  • "Gender identity" is old fashioned regressive sex stereotypes. Nothing more. Why would anyone not entirely patriarchal and misogynist want to rely on those instead of being free from them?

Hope this helps.

What a load of bollocks. Trans women are men. It’s literally the only thing they have In common. It’s the qualifying factor. Women cannot become trans women. That’s exclusively for men. She has never denied the holocaust. She has not deleted any tweets about IK. FFS her Twitter account is RIGHT THERE. lies

You can't test for "gender". You test for sex.

I'd pay good money to see a test for gender.

We have asked. Let's see where the very easy to check for falsity claims have come from. I think the ⚓icon will be a no-brainer applied to the source of the 'busy deleting tweets' fuckwittery.

Helleofabore · 21/08/2024 12:21

In fact, if there was a test for 'gender' the innovator of that test would probably win a Nobel prize. Can you imagine just how fucking useful that test would be!

Oh. that is right, isn't it. We were assured on another thread recently that being trans (not that either boxer is trans and so not the topic of the thread!) is not just about gender dysphoria. Meaning it is absolutely now a choice for those people!

It doesn't exactly scream 'born this way' does it?

AncientAndModern1 · 21/08/2024 12:31

I’m old enough to remember when ‘born in the wrong body’ was the TRA mantra, before they all got embarrassed by it at the same time.

RainWithSunnySpells · 21/08/2024 13:09

Oh Gnash, what a beautiful example of 'Rowling Derangement Syndrome' you have shown us. I hope that your post makes it to the thread of that name on the forum-that-cannot-be-linked-to so that everyone there can also be delighted by your words.

I especially love you claim that Rowling is (and I quote) 'supporting people who say they want trans people sterilised'. That is the best example of accusing your detractors of the very thing that you are guilty of that I have ever seen. It is utterly glorious!

TRAs advocate for 'gender affirming care' which includes operations called hysterectomy and orchidectomy on demand. Yet, it is presumibly those who ask for caution/express concerns about this who you refer to as wanting 'trans people sterilised'?

You get many, many Humpdy Dumpty points. Words truly mean whatever you want them to mean. Congratulations! ⭐

Gnash clearly hasn’t bothered to read this thread if zir believes the JK’s tweets re: IK
were inaccurate!

RainWithSunnySpells · 21/08/2024 13:15

Well who needs to read them when someone on Reddit or X told them that JKR is a big meanie? Case closed, right?

Helleofabore · 21/08/2024 13:15

SUCCESS!!

This could be the arse that the deleted tweet misinformation has been pulled from!

J.K. Rowling has deleted 27 tweets since being named in a lawsuit brought by Olympic Women’s Boxing Gold Medalist Imane Khelif. Rowling has also not tweeted in 13 days.

Have no idea who Akers is.

So weird that people lie about easily fact checked stuff.

So maybe the IBA nonsense is projection - "I lie about stuff that's easily shown to be false, so why wouldn't the IBA?"

Hey. You could be right there. I didn't even think of that.
