J.K. Rowling and Elon Musk have both been named in a criminal complaint filed to French authorities over alleged “acts of aggravated cyber harassment” against Algerian boxer and newl crowned Olympic champion Imane Khelif.

Nabil Boudi, the Paris-based attorney of Khelif, confirmed to Variety that both figures were mentioned in the body of the complaint, posted to the anti-online hatred center of the Paris public prosecutor’s office on Friday.

The lawsuit was filed against X, which under French law means that it was filed against unknown persons. That “ensure[s] that the ‘prosecution has all the latitude to be able to investigate against all people,” including those who may have written hateful messages under pseudonyms, said Boudi. The complaint nevertheless mentions famously controversial figures

Inspired by @Dumptytree saying that it was hard to find sources due to algorithms etc, I have started a resource thread to give as many links possible for anyone trying to get their heads around the information about male people in female sports categories.

(ONLY FOR POSTING RESOURCE MATERIAL NOT FOR DISCUSSION).

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5142027-save-female-sports-evidence-thread?page=1

There is a lot of original source material here that will help to shine a light on the impacts of testosterone on male bodies and why it is important to exclude them from female sports AND some information on how we got to this position in the Olympics.

Save female sports evidence thread | Mumsnet

I am conscious that the Break it Down for me thread is nearly full. I am therefore hoping that this thread can be an archive thread just for the sport...

As a very basic thing, I wouldn’t use ‘he’ pronouns when discussing a female boxer who is trying to sue people for internet harassment for, among other things, called her a male. If you really can’t bring yourself to use ‘she’ then use the person’s name.

Are you suggesting a collective lie at womens expense?

Despite the TRAs best efforts, 'Misgendering' is not illegal in the UK.

God Im so sick of this forced partcipation and collusion in a collective fantasy.

Is that the purpose of the lawsuit? To get women to stop talking?

@Helleofabore thats amazing, thank you. Going through it now and grateful to everyone on this thread who responded to me kindly and informatively, Im sure its hard when your position is so offen deliberately misunderstood or attacked.

Still thinking and learning but I feel like Ill be able to approach discussions with a more informed mindset. I have taken learnings from this and glad I posted.

It looks like it. Gender activists have repeatedly used the law over the past few years in this country to shut women up. Fortunately, thanks to the Forstater ruling, women in the UK are allowed to speak clearly and unambiguously about the reality of biological sex. In France, who knows? It could be a whole different kettle of fish. For all I know, calling a man a man when he wants to pretend to be a woman is against the law. (Which is what they tried to do in Scotland, though less successfully, thanks to JKR.)

That's the problem with pesky women speaking their truth online. Can't use physical intimidation to same effect. Men are always trying to shut MN down for this.

Silly us for thinking that clarity is important when describing the cause of the immense increased risk female boxers have been exposed to, let alone loss of fair competition.

Honestly, so many of us were ok to use preferred pronouns until abusive misogynists twisted that courtesy to suit them - see Pronouns Are Rohypnol above.

In person, I'd absolutely consider using preferred pronouns. But at my discretion. Never in response to threats and intimidation.

As an aside, isn't it called "carcarel feminism" when women report stuff to the rozzers? Have we not been educated that it's a really bad thing that good women should avoid? I'm sure that's been levelled at IK, right?

Nope.

There is very little indication Khelif is actually female. Why are you trying to compel our agreement that he is? I don't give a shit about "misgendering". I don't care if he's sad, Especially not compared with the violence against women and mass gaslighting that we've seen here. You wanna participate in gaslighting misogynist abuse tactics, that's up to you, but it's not going to work on us here.

It's not "harassment" for women to question and to ask for fairness and safety in sport, and it's not "harassment" to name a male as male when it's 99% likely that he is. It's also not "harassment" to call out obvious lies or to ask questions about DSDs, given Khelif and Lin have FAILED PREVIOUS TESTS and Khelif's trainer even admits he has XY chromosomes.

I believe this is "harassment" as much as I believe the claim by his trainers that he "went up a mountain and came down a woman". Meanwhile, several women got punched in the face and deprived of both Olympic medals and the chance to even compete because of this bullshit. Anyone supporting it supports misogyny. Just stop with the manipulation already.

Oh. And YOU "be kind".

WishIMite · 14/08/2024 18:31

Those calling Khelif 'he' and 'a man' - do you genuinely believe she should start presenting as a man and using male pronouns if it is the case that she has male genes, regardless of anything else/socialisation as a female?

WishIMite · 14/08/2024 18:32

And nobody is saying 'be kind'. There's a massive difference between being kind and being courteous/not a cunt about things. It's the inflammatory language that makes discussion about this topic very frustrating.

I don't care what he does outside of the boxing ring

Well, I assume, apart from using female toilets, changing rooms, wearing a dress, getting female prizes, calling herself a woman etc etc etc?

You asked whether IK should present as a man and my answer was to that question.

From the pictures freely available online and from the behaviour of IK and the Algerian people supporting him during the Olympics he already does present and behave as a man most of the time.
