On the Beeb now saying clear as day that the entire controversy over the boxing was wrong, it was the IOC's own fault and it needs fixing in the next Olympics cycle. No mention of individual athletes - the blame squarely where it belongs, with the mess the IOC allowed to happen.

I was a rower so he's a bit of a God to me anyway, but to say it so clearly and simply when I've been infuriated by practically everything I've read or heard about it, whichever angle it was from, was just AWESOME.

I think the IOC want boxing out, and have let this clusterfuck happen in order to justify their decision.

As in 'if you can't all be nice, there won't be any boxing. See, it's all your fault'.

Igmum · 11/08/2024 20:56

Ooo I like that. A 'sports sex'. Identify however you please but your sports sex is biological reality. (Plain old sex to the rest of us but could be a linguistic olive branch to the activists)

Yes I know, but by the time I realised it was too late to go back and tweak.

I think fairness works though, it is about fairness , which in sport should be an important consideration.

He said "they can't both have equity and inclusion".

He was talking from around 7.34 i.e. 34 minutes into the closing ceremony coverage.

Good.

That's David Icke.

And Jolyon Maugham

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 11/08/2024 21:09

Nicola Adams, who has also been working on the BBC has been tweeting similar.

I am also surprised that the BBC broadcast that, times they are a changing

Omlettes · 11/08/2024 21:10

Carini et al are sacrificial :(

BlossomToLeaves · 11/08/2024 21:29

And yet the BBC app is still showing a story where they quote the IOC head as saying things like there are many women with higher testosterone than many men, or that there is no solid scientific way to distinguish men and women etc, and there is no comment on his remarks in the article, no fact finding addendum or correction, no verification or sources, no questioning, so it comes across like it is generally accepted

So the BBC might have some individuals who understand science and are allowed to talk about it, but they're still not making it clear across all their platforms.

I'd like to see BBC Verify (?) validate that claim without resorting to: "Many women can be a tiny proportion of women who have higher testosterone than a tiny proportion of men. Both tiny proportions constitute "many" by the law of large numbers."

And we must not forget this.

We must not forget what this has cost them.

He is Matthew Pinsent, a UK Gold medal winning rower, good to see a very well respected and male (former) athlete pinning his colours to the mast. First Daley Thompson, now Matthew, let’s hope more start speaking up to join the female former athletes who have been saying this for many years.

Well we can be certain Tom Daley won't be following Pinsent and Thompson.

Apolloneuro · 11/08/2024 23:22

From what I’ve read it’s the presence of the Make Male gene that makes the fundamental difference. Without these two boxers releasing their tests we will never know if it was ok or not.

I do think there’s no point in girls training as elite athletes, I must say.

But he knew what a woman was when he wanted to buy a baby.

Matthew Pinsent was completely brilliant today.

How is this homophobic?

Did he ask a man to carry his baby?

It's not homophobic.

Tom Daley bought a baby.

So did Robbie Williams.

So did Paris Hilton.

They all bought babies. Its abhorrent to buy babies regardless of whether you are gay, straight, male or female.

Its not homophobic to say this.

Strangely this is the feminist section of MN which talks about how women are exploited and abused. Homosexuals are responsible for this when they buy babies.

Its awful that because Daley is an Olympic Superstar we apparently aren't allowed to be concerned about how he's been praised constantly this Olympics for bringing his purchase to watch how amazing he is.

We should be appalled by this celebration of surrogacy.

Bruisername · 11/08/2024 23:37

Talking about this at work and my colleague wanted to bring Serena Williams into the discussion 🙄

they need to bring back sex testing and stop with the whole ‘ooh a woman has muscles, she must be a man’

my colleague was all about how it’s not fair on the boxer to be excluded and I asked if it was fair on all the women boxers. She didn’t have an answer for that!!

anyway, I was impressed with how well Matthew pinsent put it

SiobhanSharpe · 11/08/2024 23:38

I was so pleased to hear Matthew Pinsent speaking so straightforwardly about the IOC fuck-up. It needed to be said.

But I don't recall any of the pundits in the studio responding. (except blandly.)

Would that be the Serena Williams who had serious complications with... childbirth?

cause they are all on The BBC payroll, which I presume Mathew is not. Even so, was half expecting him to be dragged off, stage left, with a shepherds crook, cosmo smallpiece style (one for the teenagers there)

Catsmere · 11/08/2024 23:48

The 100 metres cat gender would feature a lot of curling up to sleep in a sunny spot if they'd trained properly.
