TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes” | Mumsnet

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men? *”Two athletes competing at...

This is the bit where a few posters prefer is not to comment on how masculine one boxer looks. I noticed how wiry lin is in comparison with the polish woman, whose upper body looks quite bulky in comparison, yet still distinctly female.

How many of us now wonder if we should have bet a double on this happening? I wonder what odds we'd have had? Or are those who set the odds for such things constrained by reality otherwise the betting company shareholders would want to know why their coffers had been emptied?

ETA: kicking myself for not thinking of this as a way of crowdfunding future actions.

On the question of who knew what when, IK appears to have been in the army - and will therefore have had army medicals. I doubt they include routine sex tests, but are presumably a little more rigorous than the 'but there's barely any medical care in rural Algeria' arguments would like to suggest.

Interesting point. Way back in the early stages I think there was discussion about what odds the bookies might be offering, and the consensus was that they’d know exactly what the outcome was going to be. Bookies are pretty switched-on when it comes to reality, I believe.

CaveMum · 10/08/2024 21:56

Interesting from that article.

Wonder how they plan to prove that what has been said is incorrect and who they’re planning on going after.

(Not the point of the thread but they refer to 'former prime minister Lynn Truss' 😳😬😂)

They also, like surprisingly many journalists, don't seem to get that Chinese names put the surname first so don't just mis-sex the boxer but also call them the wrong name.

duc748 · 10/08/2024 22:06

I can't imagine the boxing authorities in Algeria, or the government, would be pleased with this idea of legal action (if there's anything to it).

SinnerBoy · 10/08/2024 22:11

I see that the votes on the BBC live feed are strongly against the Matthew the Moron behind the keyboard. Almost 4:1.

What an utter muppet

i honestly don’t understand how some peoples minds work…or don’t in this case

RufustheFactualReindeer · 10/08/2024 22:14

Too good…utter fucker 😒

Omlettes · 10/08/2024 22:41

FFS!
I guess they didnt dare push this in Heavyweight where it would be even more apparent.
For now.

kiterunning · 10/08/2024 22:41

Wonderful! At last.

kiterunning · 10/08/2024 22:42

Hopefully more people will be encouraged to protest now.

What a repulsive pr ck
Its entirely deliberate at this point.

I thought this line from that article seemed to miss the point:
But Yu-Ting and Khelif's progress onto gold medals has delivered a major rebuff to their critics.

Yeah. Winning a gold each has really put that "unfair advantage" talk to bed.

Yeah. Winning a gold each has really put that "unfair advantage" talk to bed.

Now we'll see the smooth switch to "they're just so talented."

Unfortunately, that's what I've concluded, too.

I fail to see how and think that the exact opposite is the case. The internet is on fire at the moment and Moronic Matthew has poured more petrol on.

InWalksBarberalla · 10/08/2024 23:29

I'm confused- I was looking at how much taller Khelif and Lin were compared to their competitors in their gold medal matches (assuming its a body fat thing) but looking at the official olympic app it has both Khelif and Yang as 5'10 - but Khelif looked a fair bit taller.

Lin at 5'9 was clearer taller than Szeremeta at 5'5.

“After the 2023 World Championships, where she was disqualified, I took the lead by contacting a renowned endocrinologist at the Paris University Hospital, Kremlin-Bicêtre, who examined her. He confirmed that Imane is indeed a woman, despite her karyotype and testosterone level. He said: "There is a problem with her hormones, with her chromosomes, but she is a woman. That's all that mattered to us. We then worked with a doctor based in Algeria to monitor and regulate Imane's testosterone level, which is currently in the female standard”
Quote from Georges Cazorla who worked with Khelif
