TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes” | Mumsnet

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men? *”Two athletes competing at...

I know nothing about boxing but I can see with my own eyes that a woman is being hit incredibly hard by a man who has hugely more power. And she has no hope of matching it.

It’s that simple.

Snowypeaks · 03/08/2024 16:54

Doesn't help that the live text uses "she" to refer to Khelif.

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 03/08/2024 16:55

Is it over yet? Can't find any results, can't bear to watch. So desperately upsetting.

ChaChaChooey · 03/08/2024 16:55

Keepingcosy · 03/08/2024 16:30

Thank you for this.

I'm checking Fair Play on twitter, they are adamant that Khelif is male, as are many GC activists and I'm assuming they are more informed than most.

Seeing as it's not exactly controversial to point out the reality of this I e. Caster Semenya, why isn't this being discussed in the mainstream media? Why has running ruled out Semenya but boxing hasn't ruled out these athletes who it appears obvious have undergone male puberty and have similar condition?

Because the Olympic organisers have said it’s up to the individual sports federations to set rules on ‘sport sex’

BUT they’ve suspended the boxing federation due to financial corruption allegations and have thus organised the boxing rules themselves.

Both of the controversial competitors have already been disqualified from competing when the boxing federation is in charge.

(more detailed versions of this have been posted elsewhere so that’s just a quick overview answer!)

Boiledbeetle · 03/08/2024 16:55

Another woman getting hit at the Olympic.

Fuck this is bloody horrific!

Fuck this shitshow of an Olympics, fuck the IOC and fuck the cheats.

Imane Khelif wins. An absolute demolition, frankly. Now into semi-finals and guaranteed a medal bout. Anna Luca Hamori simply bombarded

Horrific.

The difference in reach was ridiculous.
I don't think Hamori landed a single significant punch.

This BBC commentary is making me feel like I'm in a dystopian parallel universe 🙁

This. The BBC are going to come out of this extremely badly, I think (and hope!).

How fucking dare they gas-light the public like this! 😡

And the BBC is ignorant and cowardly.

@duc748 - the BBC have form for this.

They obviously think we're all completely stupid. My late DGF used to slag off the BBC at every opportunity and I used to think he was just a grumpy old bugger. Am now beginning to see his point ...

yourhairiswinterfire · 03/08/2024 17:05

The commentator thinks it's quite simple what Hamori has to do to win

Build a time machine, set the destination to 'Father's Ballbag', perform a ritual to transfer her soul into a sperm carrying the Y chromosome, be reborn, grow up, and go through a male puberty?

I noticed this too.

kiterunning · 03/08/2024 16:59

The difference in reach was ridiculous.
I don't think Hamori landed a single significant punch.

She landed plenty of scoring hits which is what matters, especially in the first round where she was clearly the faster fighter - she is incredibly quick. Unfortunately that reach just ground her down.

Those mentioning the vocal Algerian supporters, remember that France has a huge number of residents and citizens of Algerian origin who are mostly leaping to the defence of ‘their girl’. You won’t seen anything like the same level of support for Lin Yu-Ting.

EatMoreFibre · 03/08/2024 17:06

France has a large population with Algerian ancestry so I imagine they would have turned up today to support the Algerian contestant and boo the evil witch. Also like a pp said in the audience there inevitably would be people enjoying watching a man beat up a woman, as a sport. I've been on reddit and the dumbasses are frothing over all this - the problem is that Carini is a shit boxer, high testosterone, JKR, white tears, JKR, Khalif is so pretty and has the same figure as Luca, terfs will terf, JKR etc.

As furious as I am about these two previously banned boxers being allowed to compete, as sad as I am for the Taiwanese and Algerian women that missed out on the Olympics, as frustrated as I am for the defeated opponents... Khalif getting through with only bring more light to this issue. Every fight is a dramatic indictment of the incompetence and misogyny of the IOC.

Shame our press is full of useless cowards.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 03/08/2024 17:06

They also seemed to be massively over emphasising that he is a woman. They kept describing him as the woman in red, but her as Hamori.

Signalbox · 03/08/2024 17:08

An interesting thread from Sasha Ayad on the cultural context of the situation. Not that this should change anything in terms of males with dsds competing in the female category but it is interesting.

I'm surprised, or perhaps I'm not - at how many people are so deep into this that they are prepared to accept all sorts of nonsense.
There's an AIBU thread "to say women don't have XY chromosomes".

Some people understand, some just......don't. Or won't? Or can't - because it doesn't fit with what they are supposed to think.

protectourchildren · 03/08/2024 17:08

What next? Coverage of crufts referring to all dogs as cats? We can see, BBC.

LaeralSilverhand · 03/08/2024 17:09

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 03/08/2024 17:00

Commentary mentioned Khelifs reach about 74 times. They know what they can see.

Exactly, they know they can’t say ‘that’s a bloke’ because the IOC will have an absolute shitfit. But they can certainly imply it.

Treeballarae · 03/08/2024 17:09

Just watched the fight and was so angry after watching those male commentators say the word "woman" so many times when the BBC normally avoid the word "woman" like the plague, that I came to see if there was a thread. I am so angry right now. How fucking dare they.

EsmaCannonball · 03/08/2024 17:10

There are an awful lot of men who are positively gleeful about women having something taken away from them and being out back in their place. The fact they can do this while hiding behind progressivism is a double delight. They know it's wrong but they are loving the excuse to thwart women.
