TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes” | Mumsnet

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men? *”Two athletes competing at...

It wasn't the worst BBC summation, but there was definite room for improvement.

Ah but then you can just change the definitions of safety and fairness. We have always been at war with Eastasia.

Absolutely. I was thinking of this quote as well, but there are so many.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

But they're going on about whether the tests are trustworthy

Is it explained that tests were carried out by certified labs and not in Russia?

There seems to the impression floating around that the tests were cooked up by Putin using a kids science kit in his dungeon. 🙄

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 05/08/2024 18:42

Ima skipping the IBA entirely now, and referring to dr pretty badass (subtitle error if you missed it 😁) of the EUBC

annejumps · 05/08/2024 18:43

I feel like they're lightly condemning certain tests in such a vague way as to not be legally actionable, haha.

WarriorN · 05/08/2024 18:43

BBC basically allowed of the correct info through but then sowed seeds of doubt and had a heart felt clip of khelif describing bullying.

EsmaCannonball · 05/08/2024 19:13

If the mainstream media thinks it is unkind to concentrate on individual boxers they should be concentrating on why the IOC no longer does sex testing, against the wishes of female athletes. They need to reiterate that the tests are far less invasive and embarrassing than the urine tests for doping and the results far less personal than the compulsory pregnancy tests that some athletes have to take.

Pregnancy testing makes me think - have any of the #bekind people thought how unkind it is to make someone who knows they have XY chromosomes due to a DSD take a pregnancy test?

Insert emotive argument about growing up with bows in her hair and whatever, and now she (sic) has to suffer the indignity of a pregnancy test - knowing she will never be pregnant?

Was just listening to Ross Tucker's second short podcast which covered our friend from the IOC, Mark's press conference from earlier. I was quite shocked that Mark mentioned the story about Khelif being tested because they beat a Russian. I find it astounding that an Olympic official would basically repeat some social media flim flam to try to throw shade on the testing.

If it were true, is the idea that the Russians did the tests because their boxer was beaten and just got lucky that the tests came back positive? Or is Mark saying the tests/labs are dodgy? In which case, in true CSI/Silent Witness style why don't all the other athletes who got tests results from the same lab sue because the lab has now been discredited by the supreme gods of the Olympics!

I note they didn't alow Khelif's actual voice to be heard - they over-dubbed it with an obviously female voice.

Ross’ short podcast today was excellent. He’s bang on about the IOC trying to shore up its decision to prioritise inclusion over safety or fairness in women’s sport. I love his straightforward way of explaining things.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/08/2024 19:57

Ross Tucker's new short, as mentioned:

Where do we think the IOC will go from here? I think they'll double down and continue as is. Apparently they have a press conference at some point this evening.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/08/2024 20:02

They will absolutely double down.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/08/2024 20:03

Khelif is fighting for silver tomorrow, right? Anyone know who?

BezMills · 05/08/2024 20:03

The IOC have painted themselves into a corner. I hope the defeated athletes go to CAS and make a case that they were in an unfair match.

ChaChaChooey · 05/08/2024 20:08

I’d happily garden for that court case!

Signalbox · 05/08/2024 20:10

I think all the other female athletes should do the sex test voluntarily and display the results prominently somewhere. Show the world how straightforward it is to be transparent with nothing to hide. Would be like the TERF version of displaying your pronouns.

I'm just listening to the podcast, and as I read this he advised not saying sex test but "eligibility screen" - which then leads to further testing that would include a sex test, to consider various reasons for the ineligible result.

There was an interview with a TV channel a bit back but it now appears to have been pulled from YouTube. Khelif really reminded me of the interview with Caster Semenya in it and did sound male. I can't find it now, nor some pictures that were up with Khelif looking very male, relaxing with the bros kind of thing.

duc748 · 05/08/2024 20:44

This is what I can't square: the insistence on social media that in conservative Islamic Algeria, where they hate LGBT people, they'd never send a trans person to the Olympics (despite Khelif never having claimed to be trans), but, one the other hand, firstly K did not take up the opportunity to contest her ban with the CAS? Why? And secondly, how does the 'conservative Algeria' meme tie in all these photoshoots of her in male attire?

Interviews aren’t generally dubbed, that would have been an interpreter.
