Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men? *”Two athletes competing at...

I get the feeling that the doctor is remarkably angry.

He would be; he's being attacked and having his professional integrity besmirched in a very public manner.

Kucinghitam · 05/08/2024 14:23

I find the angle of attack by the Righteous "journalists" very interesting - seems it's all about throwing any old mud, and scolding about language. What I mean by "interesting" is how indistinguishable their approach is from the flood of Righteous posters on here in the past few days, and ditto all over social media, the way all the exact same talking points in the same order of appearance using the same words/phrases.

Sinister.

HipTightOnions · 05/08/2024 14:25

Agreed, Kucinghitam. How long before "naturally-occurring high levels of testosterone"?

PepeParapluie · 05/08/2024 14:25

So many questions about ‘why didn’t you raise this sooner’ ‘why didn’t you take action sooner if it’s a safety issue’ etc.

Uh, perhaps because they thought the IOC might have an ounce of interest in the safety of women? I don’t get the criticism of the IBA in that way. Especially when they (the media) are simultaneously not holding the IOC to account over this issue in the slightest.

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 05/08/2024 14:25

"To discuss her... or this boxer"

Ahem. 😬

I’ve just looked up which countries’ boxers Khelif and Lin may end up fighting.

It seems that if Khelif beats Suwannapheng (Thailand) tomorrow then he will end up fighting either Yang (China) or Chen (Taiwan) in the welterweight final. It could be interesting if it’s the Taiwanese athlete as I don’t see how Taipei can say “OUR athlete of course is eligible, but the Algerian is a man!”.

If Lin wins against Yildiz Kahraman (Turkey) on Wednesday then he will have to fight either Petecio (Philippines) or Szeremeta (Poland) in the featherweight final on Saturday,

The ideal opponent would be China as they are likely to cause some fuss as they like winning, and have real diplomatic power. Also would be a chance to embarrass the West as the CCP is not onboard with gender stuff and also hassle Taiwan which the Chinese like. Plus the Chinese public are very online in areas they are allowed to talk about so this might cause real drama in China. Taiwan would not protest because they are locked in.

There a Polish opponent might be best. Could help in EU discussions.

I noticed that too!

quantumbutterfly · 05/08/2024 14:27

This was in the public domain for a long time, the journalists just weren't interested until confronted with what they were trying to ignore.

It's almost like much of the media collude on this issue and deliberately muddy the water instead of doing good journalism.

They've picked a side.

NotBadConsidering · 05/08/2024 14:28

Some of it is wilfully stupid.

“Why did you wait 8 months?”

They've already said! They wanted to retest to be sure and couldn’t test them until they were officially under their auspices!

PepeParapluie · 05/08/2024 14:29

’we have genetic tests and they are men’

Let’s see how many outlets quote that…

China are facing their own allegations over the men's swim team so they might be less keen than you think.

SabrinaThwaite · 05/08/2024 14:29

Dr was very clear - ‘the lab result, two lab results, say this boxer is male’.

Fetlocksblowininthewind · 05/08/2024 14:29

I'm really impressed at how they (apart from the president) have managed to hold their tempers, they must be furious at the line of questioning and of course that they are having to do this at all when it is such a clear cut issue!

ETA: Saying that I absolutely understand the president's fury, they are cheaters! The homophobic slurs are not ok obviously.

rabbitwoman · 05/08/2024 14:31

Live feed has very abruptly ended on YouTube

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 05/08/2024 14:31

The journalists will be looking to their own future. Get this wrong from the IOC side and they'll be banned from future press conferences. This is a battle between IBA and IOC, my money is on journalists backing the IOC

rabbitwoman · 05/08/2024 14:32

The final questions before the feed cut out were along the lines of, why have you waited so long, why have you called thico ference only now etc.

And the reply was, it was YOU who wanted answers!!!

Quite - they do not seem to be independent journalists seeking facts. They re more like a braying mob. WTF has happened to this profession?

rabbitwoman · 05/08/2024 14:36

The press did seem quite hostile - but so what?

Everyone watching heard the doctor say, these are men. In a round about way......

HipTightOnions · 05/08/2024 14:37

Still available here.

Vespanest · 05/08/2024 14:39

Still feel the IOC are relieved that the discussions is about the tests and motives rather that the IOC is an open category.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 03/08/2024 10:09

A 3rd category is the place for trans people to compete.

How many times do we need to say these people are DSD not trans.

quantumbutterfly · 05/08/2024 14:40
