TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes” | Mumsnet

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men? *”Two athletes competing at...

Lady journalist has just asked if they could be clear, are these boxers men or women? What information do you have to say they aren't women?

rabbitwoman · 05/08/2024 14:07

Doctors say they can't confirm because of confidentiality.

'read between the lines'!!!!

rabbitwoman · 05/08/2024 14:08

Some heckling.

Doctor has just confirmed, round about way 'looks like this boxer is male!'

HipTightOnions · 05/08/2024 14:09

Doctor has spelled it out.

Lab results say twice this boxer is male.

(Responding to "born female") "I was not in the hospital when she [sic] was born, so I can't say what happened."

rabbitwoman · 05/08/2024 14:10

Covering his back a bit, but really does seem to have just confirmed male karoytype.

'as doctor, I need to protect women's category in sport'

Important detail may have been missed v early - concerns were raised by the medical team. THE MEDICAL TEAM!!

Yes - said very clearly that other countries doctors had raised questions, the IBA expert says that he doesn’t care whether the boxers look like men or women because that’s not what is important. He says the IBA medics (that he had trained) carrying out the pre weigh in medical exam raised questions, and that’s when the blood samples were taken for karyotype tests.

rabbitwoman · 05/08/2024 14:10

Question from BBC sport - about the integrity of the organisation.

yourhairiswinterfire · 05/08/2024 14:11

Paraphrasing:

Dr Ioannis Filippatos: 'I cannot say to you if she was born woman. The medical result, blood results and the laboratories say that this boxer is male. I've seen the results. We are not against Khelif, she is a fantastic boxer.

Our problem is that we have two lab results with (missed?) of male, this isn't my answer, this is answer from the laboratory.

What happens sometimes, we hear of abnormalities in medicine... In this case, we need the boxer to co-operate with the doctor. The problem is not about Khelif, a very good boxer, but as a doctor, I need to protect the woman's category.'

They're throwing any mud they can.

It just makes the IOC sound evasive. As if they are incompetent, out of their depth or hiding something. And hoping we will all shut up and go away.

A bit like Kier Starmer then......

Fenlandia · 05/08/2024 14:12

Extract from the Telegraph live blog:

Question: What evidence do you have that Khelif is not a woman?

“I cannot say to you if she was born a woman,” says Filippatos, before asking why he is under attack.

He adds: “The medical result and the laboratories say that this boxer is male. I have seen this result. We are not against Khelif, she is a very good boxer.

“I was not in the hospital when she was born, I like Algeria!”

“In this case, we need the boxer to collaborate with the laboratories. She is a very good boxer but as a doctor I need to protect the women’s category.”

😵

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 05/08/2024 14:13

Speculation- the pre weigh in medical tests may have included testosterone levels, so they'd then do karyotype testing to confirm whether XY or doping

Presumably the BBC will agree that IOC needs to order new testing, it the issues with the IBA mean the old results cannot be trusted.....!

SabrinaThwaite · 05/08/2024 14:13

I get the feeling that the doctor is remarkably angry.

rabbitwoman · 05/08/2024 14:13

Back to Chris Roberts.

Good answers about the integrity of the IBA

missed word is karyotype

Well quite. As various people have said already, this farce is just covering over the fact that the IOC refuses to speak up for the integrity of the female category.

quantumbutterfly · 05/08/2024 14:15

missed word is karyotype

Thank you!

rabbitwoman · 05/08/2024 14:18

Other people are doing a better job than I but I am astounded, this is really incriminating to the IOC.

I really hope this blasts this bloody thing open.

No doubt. Boxers are male. IBA told the IOC. IBA are only concerned with safety of boxers.

rabbitwoman · 05/08/2024 14:19

What the hell are the IOC thinking!?

rabbitwoman · 05/08/2024 14:20

Now challenging the IBA president on homophobic language.

Ffs

HipTightOnions · 05/08/2024 14:20

Most journalists seem to be more interested in discrediting the IBA though. I wonder how they will report this?

NotBadConsidering · 05/08/2024 14:20

I thought the BBC question was answered poorly. Just ask back what is there to gain from falsifying these two athletes as having male karyotype and why didn’t athletes challenge it if they were so sure it was an injustice?

Fetlocksblowininthewind · 05/08/2024 14:20

I love that doctor, he was very clear! They are all clearly very passionate but he was particularly clear.

HipTightOnions · 05/08/2024 14:22

"Why did you only test these 2 women? Why didn't you test all the women?"
