TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes” | Mumsnet

Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men? *”Two athletes competing at...

Yes, questions seem to be about money, corruption and political affiliation, but this next guy is having none of it, talking about boxing - rules, procedures, safety.

it's a total clash of ideology. the IBA are coming across as completely baffled.

they knew Lin and Khalif were men. they let they IoC know privately, expecting them to say 'crikey, we'll disqualify them', but ran smack into the IoC's intention to allow men into women's sports and were left extremely puzzled.

they basically look like me in about 2016, confident that all they need to do is point out that these are men and logic and reason will win the day. poor chaps.

This is spot on.

The answers from the IOC briefing this morning confirm it too. They don’t care whether they have XY chromosomes or not. The IOC know they do. All that matters to them is that they have F on their passports.

The medical expert says that medics from other countries had raised questions over the sex of the boxers. Says that the medical exam after the draw but before the weigh in (not sure if this is in Istanbul or Delhi) raised questions and then they took blood samples to determine karyotype.

That's helpful info on the timeline and addressing the charge of arbitrariness.

Although I honestly don't know what difference it could make to the result of a chromosomal test if it were arbitrary.

🙌
Can't put that any clearer

SabrinaThwaite · 05/08/2024 13:58

I’m a bit behind because it’s hard to decipher what the doctor is saying. He is quite passionate and emphatic!

'only conversation that matters is how to keep the boxers safe'

quantumbutterfly · 05/08/2024 14:00

Is that loud noise the sound of the shit hitting the fan.

100%.

asked the doctor how much do you get paid?

Zero.

Ha!

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 05/08/2024 14:02

All well and good, and obviously correct.

However the IOC rules allow them to enter and win.

Where will they stand now? Yes they are men with a DSD which allows them to fight as women? What have we gained. I think we’re just moving towards ‘some women have XY chromosomes, and they are allowed to fight you bigot!”

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 05/08/2024 14:02

We really need it to be clear that puberty matters regardless of birth certificates.

Snowypeaks · 05/08/2024 14:03

Just from reading the snippets pps have been kind enough to post, the IBA speakers come across as men who are passionate about the sport, rather than apparatchiks, or suits. Unlike Mark Adams & Co with their non-answers and evasions - they're all about the IOC, not boxing or sport in general.

rabbitwoman · 05/08/2024 14:04

These guys have been fantastic so far.

They care about their boxers. They are batting away questions about corruption and right wing politics.

They are as clear as they can be that these boxers did not meet the criteria to box with women. And they told the IOC this.

They appear very keen on protecting women's boxing, no matter what.

SabrinaThwaite · 05/08/2024 14:05

‘Let the doctors speak’.

’Do you want the truth?’

Both quite stand out statements.

If the IOC policy says there should be no presumption of advantage in the case of males identifying as women, but that it should be assessed on an individual basis, would they not have to do some kind assessment then? I mean they'll likely still fudge the whole thing but it might give some of the other countries some grounds to challenge them on.

rabbitwoman · 05/08/2024 14:05

Important detail may have been missed v early - concerns were raised by the medical team. THE MEDICAL TEAM!!

That's where this seems to be headed. And asking for testing will be pearl-clutched-at. Private medical history, etc.

HipTightOnions · 05/08/2024 14:06

Journalist asks "what info do you have that she isn't a woman?"

Have they not been listening?

Shortshriftandlethal · 05/08/2024 14:06

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/08/2024 09:03

I've not seen them personally, no. All about Khelif.

I've had an aggressive, radical left wing man tell me my main issue must be that Khelif "was Muslim", and that he "didn't care about Joke blokes in skirts" and that this whole business is just a " non issue".

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 05/08/2024 14:06

I love this man 😁

"Why you attack me (to journalists arguing "she's a woman, she's born a woman) - do you want to speak?"
