Surely this cannot be true. In boxing of all sports. I thought boxing had told men they needed to compete with other men? *”Two athletes competing at...

The whataboutery has been somewhat successful, the arguing of the reliability of the test and the IBO reputation, does disguise that according to the rules the results are meaningless by the IOC own regulations.

Even supermarkets require a level of honesty and integrity from their staff that this man doesn’t possess.

True and there's also the problem of telling those that belong to Tesco from the ones that belong to Iceland.

gailforce2 · 04/08/2024 17:24

And of course, lets not forget that Adams was Best Man for Keir "The phrase 'only women have a cervix' is something that shouldn't be said. It is not right" Starmer.

No doubt our PM could find him a job should the need arise!

WickedSerious · 04/08/2024 17:26

Then you've got the Home Bargains trolleys of course,it could all get terribly complicated and nuanced.

Imnobody4 · 04/08/2024 17:26

A rather ambiguous post from Jess Phillips early this morning.

The greatest Olympic treat is turning on a sport we know nothing about and making out after 15 minutes of spectating that we are the absolute experts on all the rules.

That's nice, Jess. But what's that got to do with the price of fish? Or VAWG?

ChaChaChooey · 04/08/2024 17:31

Fucks sake! If the IOC doubts the test because: Russians (TQAnon again) then redo the tests in a lab nominated by the IOC!

duc748 · 04/08/2024 17:32

The IOC is not going to come out of this well.

spannasaurus · 04/08/2024 17:36

Do the labs that carried out the sex tests also conduct doping tests? If they do and IOC cast doubt about the reliability of these labs doesn't that leave it open for athletes who have failed dope tests at these labs to have the results overturned

I’m starting to understand what the phrase “passive aggressive” means.

Surely the lab (which is independent of the IBA) and used by the CAS will want to defend their name an integrity at some point?

Surely the IOC won't want to 'officially' question the integrity of the labs. More likely that Mark Adams will be found to have 'misspoken'. What is for sure is that they are going to have to put some better rules in place than 'has an F on her passport'.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 04/08/2024 17:46

That’s important actually. What has training been like, how has Khelif been managed, and how have the women training with him felt? Though of course there won’t be many.

It Could make rowing back on the issue really hard. Would the women be penalised.

Well quite. Even if there is definitive proof that the athletes are XY with a DSD, they will still be eligible under the IOC's rules because their framework says that it can't be assumed that a biological male has an advantage 😕

Herawouldntstandforthis · 04/08/2024 17:55

The way men are rallying around these boxers is very familiar. They are not being treated the way wronged females would be (forgotten, smeared, mocked, unheard), but with the softly-softly infantile approach commonly presented to men who believe they're women. There's a real sense of comradeship in the way they outright celebrate their "wins" against women.

I was wondering if brotherly love or woman-hate was their main driver, then I read Reddit (why do I never learn) and got my answer: "Hungarian lady talked shit, got smacked."

SabrinaThwaite · 04/08/2024 18:09

gailforce2 · 04/08/2024 16:57

So Mark Adams is questioning the labs that are used by the Court of Arbitration for Sport?
The question still remains why, if these test were in anyway dodgy, did the 2 boxers and their national federations not appeal the decision? One started the appeal process and then stopped and the other never started?
If this were any circumstances where you were sure you were being wronged you would appeal and be completely open as to why.
There has been no openness from either the boxers or their federations. Why not?

I think the labs used by the IBA are CAP accredited (not CAS) plus ISO for quality assurance.

https://www.cap.org/laboratory-improvement/accreditation/laboratory-accreditation-program

So are accredited for both test accuracy and documentary processes.

When Adams has finished collecting the trolleys there's always sweeping to do under the carpet.

I don't often post here or anywhere else but this made me post my first comment on X.
Jess Phillips of all people 😡

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 04/08/2024 18:33

"There's a difference between a test taking place and whether we accept the accuracy or even the protocol of the test."

and that's the problem. The IOC don't accept that the test should even have been done. For some reason I genuinely can't quote figure out, they want men to be able to compete in women's events without being challenged.

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 04/08/2024 18:40

That Jess Phillips quote is very ambiguous though - could easily refer to someone like my DS telling the golfers to golf better earlier today!

duc748 · 04/08/2024 18:43

I didn't assume (perhaps over-generously) that Jess Phillips was referencing the boxing with that 'ambiguous' comment.

But if she was, who's the "we", who know nothing? It's one thing to admit your own ignorance of a topic, it's another to attach it to other folk.
