Women's rights general conversations - Thread 9

Continuation of Thread 8.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

Super interesting reading, thanks @SqueakyDinosaur!

Looking at it, I'm more baffled than ever by how so many organisations are so ignorant of others who have already FAFO.

It seems pretty clear to me (albeit uncharitable, no doubt). TRSOH enjoy a potent combination of SoulVision™️ "we know what you're really thinking and it's Evil" and a PurerThanPure "never even glance at anything that isn't perfectly Righteous in case it taints my beautiful unicorn soul."

Likewise with Fife! In complete awe of the effort the OPs and others have put in. Interesting reads both, Kuc and Squeaky. Everything that Jo Phoenix produces, it always seems so clear, so logical; you think, how could anyone argue with that?

DeanElderberry · 14/02/2025 13:15

I found that Sarah Haider article really resonated - not just wrt the Fife carry-on and related issues, but a fundamental world-view thing.

FarriersGirl · 15/02/2025 10:25

Thank you for the link to the report @SqueakyDinosaur as someone relatively new to these threads I have followed the Fife case with mounting incredulity. It is the first actual case I have seen in such depth and whilst I had heard of the other cases in the report, its analysis has been really useful and thought provoking.

Helen Joyce linked to this Substack. It would make a magnificent dystopian satire.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 15/02/2025 10:46

I read that earlier and it's very entertaining. Agree about how it would make 'a magnificent dystopian satire'!

SqueakyDinosaur · 15/02/2025 10:49

It's also a. Dated today, and b. Written by Naomi Cunningham's husband....

All likenesses to actual people and situations are entirely coincidental. Yes they are.

Very good! 😃

That's brilliant.

Winterborne74 · 16/02/2025 11:20

The guilt by association made me think of some of the good burghers of the old place, with their pompous platitudes and pieties. And their complacency.

Train operating companies shouldn’t strive for punctuality, and if you think otherwise you might just want to consider why you are so comfortable in the company of Mussolini?

DeanElderberry · 16/02/2025 12:40

oh yes.

some of them -🙄

Winterborne74 · 16/02/2025 13:01

Makes you think, doesn’t it? Well if you were a bear of very little brain…

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 16/02/2025 13:58

The Sandie Peggie thread 19 has developed into a very good general discussion, with a number of new posters, encouraged by what they have read about the hearing. Many thanks, Dr Upton.

It's also worth scrolling through the replies!

I too have been neglecting other threads, as I've been trying to keep up with the Sandie Peggie ones. Just got to the end of the last one.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 16/02/2025 15:31

I'm still at the beginning of thread 19. I think many of us have been very surprised at just how fascinating employment tribunals can be, especially when there is a skilled barrister like Naomi Campbell involved.

DeanElderberry · 16/02/2025 15:51

Mid week there were a few people muttering, 'oh it's going so badly, DU is going to win, why doesn't NC say something?' and I though wait, wait . . .

And then she pounced

A splendid demonstration of letting them collect enough rope . . .

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 16/02/2025 15:57

Campbell

Cunningham

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 16/02/2025 15:58

@DeanElderberry I was on the edge of my seat waiting for that!

SqueakyDinosaur · 16/02/2025 17:55

It may be uncharitable, but I do hope Dr Upton has had an utterly miserable weekend (and many more to come) worrying about whether his phone will be seized. After all the misery he's put SP through.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 17/02/2025 00:36

Those still catching up on the Fife threads, or who've dropped out in the belief that things will revert to general chat until the tribunal resumes in July, may wish to jump back in to thread 20. Around 8pm Sunday.

I have very much been enjoying NC in the tribunal. She, like Ben Cooper, is an excellent trapdoor barrister. Shepherding the witness gently along innocent, seemingly irrelevant byways, letting them think they have the upper hand until suddenly ... BAM!

But what she'll do with the lastest development I cannot imagine.

Well. wow! Their idiocy knows no bounds, surely?
