Church of England draft guidance for teachers to challenge 'outdated terms' around biological sex

Guidance set to be issued to thousands of schools states that a transgender man is someone 'who was assigned female at birth but identifies and lives as a man', and a transgender woman 'was assigned male at birth but identifies and lives as a woman'.

The statements are in the document Flourishing For All, which is backed by Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, and tells teachers to challenge 'outdated terms'.

About a million children attend 4,630 Anglican schools.

Which is why the CoE is increasingly irrelevant.
Meanwhile in Islam, Abbas Shouman, secretary-general of Al-Azhar’s Council of Senior Scholars in Cairo, said that “for us, ... sex conversion is completely rejected.”
“It is God who has determined the ... sex of the fetus and intervening to change that is a change of God’s creation.

Isn't this advice now, erm, outdated?

Not all Muslims disagree with ‘sex change’ though - it is very popular in Iran especially for gay men.

What this “assigned at birth’ rubbish. Sex was determined about 9 months prior.

we don’t choose our sex. We are either male or female.

Despite other threads, about guidance in schools etc., it never occured to me that CoE would not have to follow whatever guidence is eventually produced by the Government.

Interesting statement on page 24:

Gender questioning children and transgender adults are at the highest risk of bullying and therefore need particular pastoral support and protection.

but that’s only the Bible, so Welby doesn’t take much notice of it.

Gender ideology came up at a meeting at my local school. Several of the parents there reported instances of their children being bullied - all the bullying was by children following gender ideology against those who either didn’t or who had not used a demanded pronoun. Strangely when the minutes came out this had been switched round, 🤔

This is the issue that will see me leaving the CofE. I'm not sure what denomination to try instead. I'm very sad about it.

This is the one that says homosexuality involves attraction to someone of the same ‘gender’ and heterosexuality the opposite ‘gender’. The Equality Act clearly states it’s about sex.

Time to get all religion out of school. All of it. Genderology included.

High time Justin stood down. You're only meant to stay in the post for about a decade.

I teach in a C of E school. I would rather get the sack than spout this nonsense!

As always, explain what "living as..." Means without stereotypes,then we can start a conversation.

Our church is part of the Anglican Mission in England, which is where many people from CoE churches have moved across to.

For those thinking this is irrelevant because it’s just the boring old church, just remember they run around a quarter of the schools in the country. And they’ll all have to follow this guidance once it’s published.

I hope people complained and the minutes got corrected!

There is a definition of ‘intersex’ in there which reads as if it is straight from Stonewall. I’m a C of E school teacher, can we comment on this?
