Church of England draft guidance for teachers to challenge 'outdated terms' around biological sex

IwantToRetire · 25/07/2024 17:48

Guidance set to be issued to thousands of schools states that a transgender man is someone 'who was assigned female at birth but identifies and lives as a man', and a transgender woman 'was assigned male at birth but identifies and lives as a woman'.

The statements are in the document Flourishing For All, which is backed by Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, and tells teachers to challenge 'outdated terms'.

About a million children attend 4,630 Anglican schools.

I might have to waste some of tomorrow filling that out.

Bollocks. I've got loads to do....

Gotta love how they've couched it as 'anti-bullying' when what we've seen is the increased bullying of women.

This has been in the making for a long time. I’m just surprised it’s taken this long. & esp now given the Cass report.

Major public ecumenical discussions re trans go back to the legalisation of same sex marriage - the work around for the church was that it was ok if one partner was trans.

This was published in 2018 - there are a number of high profile clergy involved.

Let’s put it this way. If William Hill would take my money, I’d bet on a trans bishop before a women bishop.

There was a previous thread on this = hope the links/ evidence are helpful for those on this thread who respond.

I hope people complained and the minutes got corrected!

I hope they did! It's a serious matter to falsify minutes. This is from guidance for governors, I suppose it would also apply to a public school meeting.
"The minutes are a legal record of matters discussed at meetings of the governing board and its committees.
Minutes provide a record of decisions taken at meetings and may be used as evidence of those decisions in the case of a legal dispute." https://www.devon.gov.uk/support-schools-settings/school-effectiveness/governance/agenda-and-minutes/#minutes

So, God made a mistake and put a soul in the wrong body? Thought that couldn't happen ....

You'd lose. We have women bishops already.

Beth216 · 25/07/2024 20:31

What exactly are the the outdated terms? Woman? Female?🙄

Spot on. There are some very powerful self interested individuals behind all this. The usual pattern - using children as a shield for adult "self interests".

Not all Muslims disagree with ‘sex change’ though - it is very popular in Iran especially for gay men.

They should re read the Bible. It's in the first chapter.

Genesis 1.27
So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

What like this female bishop?

Bishop of London

Shortshriftandlethal · 26/07/2024 09:24

I reckon that back in its earliest days, 'The Beaumont Society' had a good number of cross dressing vicars as members.

Time to get Christianity back into the Church of England

There are clergy on the General Synod fighting for that to be the case. The Rector in a nearby town is, but he's very much in a minority sadly. We jumped over to the FIEC. I miss the liturgical aspect, but the Bible is respected there so....

I\d settle for the C of E stopping grooming children into believing that their bodies are flawed but can be corrected by changing sex. Unbelievable that they're promoting this.

UpThePankhurst · 26/07/2024 10:30

I'll await the new parable about the bungling angel in the 'matching souls to bodies' department of heaven. And be interested as to why God hasn't done something about it.

@IwantToRetire thank you for the link to the PDF.

Interesting statement on page 24:

Gender questioning children and transgender adults are at the highest risk of bullying and therefore need particular pastoral support and protection.

My emphasis. No source/reference given for this.
I wonder where this idea has come from?

Depends what 'bullying' means. I was told a friend's transgender teen was bullied on a walk. I asked them what happened. Another teen had come up to them and asked if they were male or female.

And then what? I asked.

Nothing. But the very question was very traumatic and triggering and bullying.

I remember being asked if I was a punk or a hippy, a lady or a girl, lesbian or straight, etc by various strangers who just wanted to know. Bit of an invasion of privacy but I coped.

This. ‘Bullying’ is often defined as people refusing to uphold their fantasy about themselves.

TempestTost · 26/07/2024 12:02

Te intellectual output of the CofE is an embarrassment. To think they once had C.S. Lewis.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 26/07/2024 12:03

Ah, the good old Church of England. Probably the best recruiters for the Roman Catholic Church in the last fifty years.

Teens have always got all sorts of shit.

My goth friend got asked if they wanted a fight once, just for the way he looked.

I'm sorry this is nothing new, same shit, different clothing, no need to make social pariahs.

Our church is part of the Anglican Mission in England, which is where many people from CoE churches have moved across to.

Thanks, I hoped this might be a place for me, however I looked it up and found this:
We grieve with millions of faithful Anglicans around the world at the disastrous decision by the House of Bishops in the Church of England to agree in principle to commend Prayers of Love and Faith for same-sex couples. This action is offensive to the God of love. It replaces his wonderful gospel of grace with a distorted message, blessing what God calls sin. This is heart-breaking, wicked and outrageously arrogant.

So sadly it is also homophobic, just in the more traditional format than those embracing Gender Ideology.

Is there a non-homophobic Anglican (or other mainstream) church I am likely to find near an English town?

Keepingcosy · 26/07/2024 12:09

So, do I have to contact my school's head about this?

Do I need to exclude my child from sex education when the time comes?

Do I need to become Catholic?

Why is the CoE doing this? It's highly controversial and goes against Cass and DoE.

I don't know what to do really. I'm being a sex realist with my children, telling them only women can have babies etc. is this enough?

I don't want them to be told sex is assigned. When my child comes across transgenderism I want to be able to explain it on our terms.

If its homophobic it's not the place for me. Plus my nearest one is over an hour awayby public transport.

I think I'll go and start my own thread in the religion section for ideas on which denomination to try.

OuchyEars · 26/07/2024 12:33

There's a religion section?

I did look, but can't see it.
