FFS disability is now on the pride flag

I'm livid. I'm disabled and I do not want to be represented on the LGBTQ+ flag.

Also this quote: Dayna Halliwell (she/her), Content and Engagement Manager at Evenbreak, led the collaboration and organised the Pride visit. She said: “It was very moving and amazing to see the reaction of disabled people in the audience. You could see the joy on their faces of being represented in the parade.”

I'm bisexual and disabled and the two have nothing to do with each other. I don't want my disability represented on the flag that's meant to represent the struggle for my right to marry a woman.

And you're welcome to that view.

But why should your view trump that of other LGBT+ people?

As it happens, I'm not a huge fan of the progress flag myself - because I think a better route to inclusion is systemic inclusion not just symbolic inclusion. So for me, it should be the case that the rainbow flag already represented and represents trans people, queer people of colour, queer disabled people etc.

But others disagree with that view and I can see that point of view. I am not a person of colour, so don't think I have much place to tell queer people of colour that they should not advocate for the brown and black stripes. I'm not trans, and I don't think I have any role in telling trans people that they should not advocate for symbolic inclusion on the flag.

As an bi disabled person, of course you have every right to support or not the addition of symbolic inclusion of LGBT+ disabled people on the flag. But you should also recognise the alternative view point.

Don’t you know, there’s a certain cult that’s appropriated the suffix”phobic” and treats it as a magic word to vaporise all actual argument. Unfortunately for them it only works with other cult members. Unfortunately the very people the suffix was originally designed to protect no longer are protected by the word because of its misuse. Classic case of the boy who cried wolf.

Devonbabs- well expressed😀

There are men who fetishise disabled women. There is porn in which women have their limbs bound up to resemble quadruple amputees.

This new flag is a smokescreen for these straight men's fetishes.

That's revolting.

Indeed.

That superstraight kid made a very valid point, intentionally or otherwise.

Nope. Not indeed. The post you were replying to was full of nonsense.

This development is about LGBT+ disabled people being included on a flag, just as LGBT+ of colour are.

There are good arguments in both directions as to whether that is a sensible way to approach flags. But claims that this is coopting disabled people regardless of their sexuality or gender identities (or indeed about including people with a disability fetish) is utter nonsense to the point of being unhinged.

WickedSerious · 17/07/2024 11:17

"Nothing to do with straight disabled people".

Until they come up with a way to include them in their grift.

Who is 'they'?

But do you at least accept - given your use of the word 'until' - that this inclusion on the flag is about LGBT+ disabled people?

SidewaysOtter · 17/07/2024 10:14

I’m glad to see Smurfs are included. Perhaps the flag should be made hairy to represent The Flumps?

Dry clean only.

'They'=the grifters.

It's about dragging as many groups as possible into their bullshit.

The arrow is pointy and penetrating, rather like a male genital organ that a lesbian wouldn't want.

😂
Maybe advocate asking for the lines to be made more wiggly then so it's looks less penetrative to you?

Dry clean only.

Or let it dry and a good stiff brush.

AlisonDonut · 17/07/2024 12:57

If I was being cynical, which I'd never do I'd maybe put forward that this might be about being inclusive of all those women who will end up in wheelchairs due to the osteoporosis that they are going to get pretty soon, if not already.

And the funding associated of course! Can't forget that.

I'm not the one talking about imaginary grifters who are apparently forcing straight disabled people into the queer community.

The self-appointed EDI "experts" coining it as trainers and consultants are absolutely grifting.

Nice work if you can get it though, and absolutely no chance of being pulled up on anything because many have become too afraid to question the narrative

For God' sake! Are you channelling Prince Philip?

Edited

Why not. He it was who started the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and his eldest son started the Prince's Trust. Both have helped many young people.
